Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thie

I'll repeat.. i think we start Rawlings both gms this wknd.. he played well all wknd up in Hanover. We can start giving Mountain more time.. either at Matthews or once there's a couple back to back well played gms.
Maybe this comes from my following of the WCHA, where goaltender rotations seem more common than they do here, but I see no reason NOT to rotate Rawlings and Mountain. Rawlings has yet to establish himself as a consistent starter, and Mountain has played well enough to earn some starts.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

..I think all of us expected more out of our upperclassmen. We need somebody with a "lead me, follow me, or get out of my way" mentality to take the reigns.

.. you know something, i think if Steve Quailer hadn't been injured so early this season, i think he'd be one of the candidates with the "follow me.. this way :)" kinda mentality. His play last season & how he handled himself leads me to believe he'd still be a candidate in the future.

I think McNeely playing disciplined this New Yr & contributing.. i do see him 'getting it'.. slowly but surely. He has to start asserting himself more with his teammates. That leadership role; so very important during down phases like this.

And JSTigers as far as Rawlings/Mountain rotation... i'll just respectfully disagree with you on this one.. (for this wknd series at least) & perhaps the Beanpot. I think sooner or later (hopefully sooner).. Rawlings will be the beneficiary of his road trips to Colorado, Dartmouth, the Beanpot etc), especially come playoff time.

Perhaps we re-visit this topic again :)

Believe me, I hope you're right about Rawlings. I just think he still looks shaky much of the time.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

BTW, did anyone catch that cheap shot Wade MacLeod took at the Umass goalie in the 3rd period on Sunday? He hacked at him with his stick on the back of his legg where there is no padding....total *****hole. I would have liked to see one of the Umass players (Irwin or Braun) knock Wade on his *****.

Yeah, I saw that too. SHOCKED it wasn't called a penalty, not that it mattered much. There were plenty of other dumb penalties that did get called. I'm going to keep going to games, but I'm certainly not expecting anything when I go. This team hasn't shown me anything to really look forward too. I'll probably be less likely to go spend the $26 to head over to that big fancy place with no environment on the stretch of Comm Ave that some people like to call a campus though (and I'll be less likely to go to other places too)

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

This year's team is playing like the 1979-1980, team; 7 wins and 20 losses, but they did win NU's first Beanpot on Wayne Turner's overtime goal against BC.
Would another Beanpot victory make the season a success? What if Steve Silva scores the winning goal after coming out of the penalty box?(his fifth penalty of the game).

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

WOW!!! is all I have to say. I thought watching last year and seeing 2 shorties on the same shift would have been the ABSOLUTE worst we'd see of special teams. I mean seriously, has ANYONE seen 2 shorties on the same shift before? I was wrong. I don't get it. These are VERY good D1 players. We have VERY good coaches. Cronin "coached special teams in the *** NHL". Are you kidding me??? This is the best they can come up with? How bout Cro,Albie, and Seb, lock themselves in a hotel room with some film and coffee. They can't come out until they figure this out. I've watched Bantam AA teams with better special teams. Maybe that's it. Go watch a CM game and pick up some pointers. This is PATHETIC!! On a lighter note, Matthews looks INCREDIBLE. Cro still needs some collar stays.

Don't hold back now coloradohusky, you tell 'em :) (can't disagree with much of your post, especially advice for Coaches).

Moving on.. Vermont is a solid team.. they stole one from us over thanksgiving break. Madore played real well that night & absolutely prevented the tie or better for us. With Matthews being almost 3/4ths empty.. NU did not show up until 2nd period that gm.. (we did end up outshooting them) but lost by a goal.

Rawlings will have to steal these gms for us. Pls watch your PP Huskies & no weak penalties.. other than that, you can absolutely skate with these guys. G'luck team.

You're absolutely right. I have a feeling that Cro is just as befuddled as you by all of it, and probably uses even more expletives to describe his befuddlement. They've tried a couple of looks this year on the PP, but even the NESN guys were talking this weekend about their arrangement being counterproductive based on the handedness of their shooters.

Good point on the collar stays. For such an impeccable gameday dresser (gotta love when he goes with the monochrome shirt and tie combo), you'd think collar stays would not be an issue.

It's actually much more enjoyable to talk about our coaches wardrobe choices than the current state of our team. Everybody should try it.

Actually if you read the Boston Globe today, quite the opposite according to Cronin.

After a shaky start (UVM goal in the 24th second of the game) I was worried. I still am, but it sounds like the Huskies get two fluke goals in the second!

Hey... I'll take 'em

Huskies 2-1

Neither goal was even remotely flukeish. JDaniels got behind the UVM D, took a nice centering pass from McNeely and slipped the puck into the right corner of the net. Kraemer simply picked up a rebound and shoved it through the goalie. I couldn't see where he went with the puck, but it was no fluke.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Glad to hear it! WRBB didn't do a great job commenting on either actually...

It sounded like the Daniels brothers were clicking tonight, and I can't express how excited I am to win our first conference away game against a ranked team.

After the "the next item thrown on the ice will result in a UVM penalty" announcement was made, I was secretly hoping for a clever NU fan to take the opportunity to put that comment to the test (but I know we're better than that ;-))

Great win for NU. A much needed win, that's for sure.

On a side note- have any teams been swept yet in HE? (Not going to get too optimisitc here, just thought I'd ask)

I'll start believing in this team again if we put up a good fight tomorrow. Two good games against a good UVM team in a row will really get the sparks flying for this team, I think

As far as sweeps go...Maine swept Providence at the beginning of December, but that's it. Providence is 0-2 against BC and the Friars didn't play any games in between, but the games were a month apart (12/12 and 1/12).

It's going to take a little but more than winning again tonight for me to really start believing in them again. We still never know which team (good or bad) is going to show up on a given night/weekend. If they can go on a nice little streak, then I might start believing again. The team doesn't have to win every game, but at least play well for 2-3 weekends in a row.

The fans were throwing stuff on the ice? For what?
