These are my Huskies, with whom I am well pleased.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thie

After the "the next item thrown on the ice will result in a UVM penalty" announcement was made, I was secretly hoping for a clever NU fan to take the opportunity to put that comment to the test (but I know we're better than that ;-))

Yeah, NU fans would never throw anything, either on the ice or at opposing fans.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

The fans were throwing stuff on the ice? For what?

Ref had a quick whistle negating a UVM goal to potentially tie the game in the 3rd.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thie

Jesus Christ.

Michael Hewkin is the worst player in this conference.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Just like i didn't think our 7-0 pounding of Dartmouth (who lost a close 4-3 decision to Vermont week before), reflected their club... our loss tonight should be viewed in the same light.

The tough loss tonight proves Vermont's offensive talent. Score not withstanding.. we split the wknd.

I'd be curious to learn what we didn't execute defensively tonight, that we did last night.

Work to be done no doubt.. but a split on the road against a quality opponent.. take it.. move on.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

OMG..Lets face it Mountain Sucks and Rawlings is good, then bad and seldom great! The bottom line is this... Sadly, team could wind up not making the HE tournament this year and if they win 15 games it will be amazing. This team is in trouble, they have never recovered losing Steve Quailer, the only legitimate 1st team all American on the roster.

I think and hope Cronin finally might have sent the 3rd goalie Bennington packing. As he rode the pine for nearly 3 years and never exhibited any potential between the pipes. I am hoping that they just offer him to play on the B team and give him the final year of a partial scholarship to get him gone, so we can make room 4 a new face in front of the net.

Check it out but I am fairly certain that he again was not on the bench in the games up in VT this weekend and he was not on the bench last week in Boston.

I drove to VT this weekend to see these games and left in the 3rd period tonight down 9 to 2.

Unfortunately, this season is likely over.....

Oh other players that don't cut the mustard the worse half of the brothers Danial's...My God, why do coaches take the extra bro as part of a package deal? ..The jean pool only produces one top player..multiple examples in the NHL! Gretzky had a little brother we called the "good one" when I played in Rochester and Danbury. He spent 25 years in minor league hockey...the Drew needs another year back at Kent prep.

Also Michael Hewkin is bye far the wost player in this league and I have no idea how he is still playing..he sucks and I have seen nearly 30 years of NU hockey from both the bench, ice and stands and aside from perhaps Crowder's kid Kevin he might be the worst player I have ever seen in a Huskies Jersey.

Other kids that should be working at your local Home Depot or Pure Hockey outlet Steve Silva.

The issue I see is that the team is individually talented with mostly good recruits yet they lack crucial on ice leadership.

Tyler McNeely is not a CAPTAIN..Sorry!

And here's a Newsflash... until we find a on ice leader we are going to continue to be at the the bottom of HE.

I mean really our team is now filled with kids form the top BCHL and US junior leagues and we got out buts handed to us by Merrimack in early December..it's unreal.

Check out how many goals we have scored this season, we can bearly cycle the puck.

We will need a top to bottom rebuilding if these guy's can't get it together mentally. Cronin looks like Moe after Curly has just slapped him in the face and spritzed him with a a gallon of H20.

Here is a hunch..if he can't figure this out by at least the end of next season year..He will be gone too! The university community and alumni as a whole now expect better and sustained results year in and year out.

Also, note worthy, is that Cronin can, now, with incentives, earn more then the President of the University thus those results can't be promises in the dark any longer.

Hoping only for a Bean Pot now as let's face it nothing else is really left!

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

we outshot them 27-24.. & gave up 9 goals on 24 shots!

not a good night for anyone playing goal.

we're still 3-3 in the new yr.

.500 will not get us home ice.. perhaps this yr we will have to steal it.. not with tonight's team.. but with the team that has come & gone, time to time this season, including last night.

Talented freshman class + Lack of veteran production and leadership = Jekyll and Hyde Routine + Cronin developing ulcers

Somebody please check my math...

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

We just didnt show up on Saturday, as simple as that. We got more on Friday than we thought we'd get the whole weekend so we took Saturday off. Here's to hoping our freshmen and sophmores develop, that's all I can hope for realistically now. Anyone know why students wasnt on the ice Saturday? Game off due to fatigue/ poor play? I mean if it's poor play then why was Hewkin out there? Meh, we better beat PC or we are donzo

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

I enjoy Rossirules posts even if I don't always agree with everything he says!:D I went to the BU/Merrimack game Saturday night and BU was lucky as hell to get that win as Merrimack took it to them almost all sixty.

This Tuesday night is pretty much a must win. With PC having played three games less than us and the Mack four games less, we need these big. And I know the Mack has plenty of home games coming up. Unfortunately, despite some talented players and some players who have played well, we're looking like the last place team. Sadly, lose Tuesday night and it's time to flip em.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Great win, 3-1, but Drew Muench could be out for a long time. Looks like the same type of injury that, Guzior, Maley and Quailer, have. Hard to have a good record when you can not play your "A" team. Steve Morra, a RI native, played, Donovan, Student and Tuckerman did not. I would go with Rawlings the rest of the way.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

I was very impressed with Morra. He can fly! I did miss Tuckerman.

A win.. now what? We have to win against Lowell & go into the Beanpot on a high note. I know they won the HE series this yr but if we can find a way to finish 'em on the 29th we'll be 2-2 against them (counting the Holiday tourney) & that's not all bad against a seasoned team with excellent goaltending. (that 6-5 OT gm still stings!)

I saw Dick Umile in the house tonight. PC plays them nxt so i think he was scouting the Friars. I hope they beat UNH.

Well, we're 4-3 in the New Yr, night all.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Solid Win tonight vs. PC..a must win game by all accounts, that distances our Huskies from the bottom feeders and puts us in 6th place by 1 small point.

However we have played a few mre games than the rest of the league, still 2 points, are 2 points.

Control through the neutral zone was key tonight and they fore-checked with a zest and desire that I have not seen since last year.

I would add that of the 13 games I have seen this year. This was a top 3 performance. Hats off.

I was a little hard on Tyler McNeely in my last post.

Tonight, I give credit where credit is due. It was his best game..he did have an empty net tally just before time expired.

However, it was what he did and how he played away from the puck, that made him stand out tonight, which is something Coach Fern used to say is really more then half the game. He actually played up to and beyond the letter "C"

Perhaps a flicker of hope still burns bright! oh just an FYI Cronin did recruit another goalie..which gives some credence to the noticeable no show of Binnington not at his designated post of "closer" and "opener" of the left door behind the bench. A spot that perhaps Mountain or Rawlings should consider familiarizing themselves with. As having been relegated to the task several times from Mites to Juniors and even the the European leagues its not as easy as it looks.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Yup, McNeely skated very well Tues. Also i thought that one time..was it Macleod (i think), swiped at the net in front of Beaudry shorthanded (off that wrap around attempt by NU)... i think we have to make those. I know the puck was wobbly, but this is part of practice. We had a couple attempts in front of goal that were fanned on.

Could have been an even more dominating performance.

Let's keep it going. No more taking the night off (like Sat v/s UVM).

Rossi.. do you have any insight on how Quailer is doing? Is he still off the ice? Light skating/ workout/rehab? anything?

We sure could use him right about...
well, anytime he feels ready this season!

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

I was very impressed with the win last night, they played very well. I have not seen to many games this year so I guessing that efforts like that have been few and far between. I went in there last nighhht saying that they absolutly needed to win that game, even with that win the playoffs are still a tough road for them. Yes they are in 6th but BU has 2 games at hand, Providence has 3 and Merrimack has 5. NU needs to get red hot and with there remaining schedule coupled with there injuries that is going to be a tough road. I also think Vermont has 4 games at hand on the Huskies. 9th place I am afraid is what i am seeing in there future. Where was Tuckerman, and Donovan last night?

That was McLaughlin. He also shot the puck directly into the goalie on a breakaway in our last home game. Not a good soph season for him thus far

FWIW, I believe the decision has already been made for a medical redshirt. I'd love to be wrong, although I'm not sure it's the best idea to rush him back at 75% to struggle to make the playoffs...

Even so, in order to have a medical red shirt, there are a certian number of games you can play in order for that to happen and since he hasn't played in an NCAA game yet, he is eligible to play the entire postseason while still getting the medical red shirt... unless he can't have played any games after a certioan point... can someone clarify that?

40 best NHL prospects as selected by NHL general managers are playing an All Star game. Don Cherry coaches as does Bobby Orr. On Cherry's team is former NU recruit Ryan Johansen. He is considered a top prospect by the announcers and has 47 points so far. We can only dream about what could have been.

Wonderful.

Well, a win is a win, I thought we played well in the first two and sat back in the third, though we really didn't give up too many scoring chances, I'd say we played well but it's PC, given that I wasn't terribly impressed. Muench looks like he is donzo, hurts our depth but really he just didnt play well this year. Hope we get tuckerman back for the lowell game, which, if we win, I think puts us in a very good spot, a little less than 20 points seems to ensure a spot in the playoffs, which is what we should be shooting for now, a playoff spot.

Down side to all of this is that PC and the mack have yet to play each other, which means they will get points from each other. I suppose the old addage of "just win baby" comes into play here, but given our schedule down the stretch.... oy.

Let's just rest up and get healthier. Is that too much to ask?
