Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

While I have also heard about a game next year at MSG, I do not see a four-team tournament happening. Not enough time and really hard to bring in enough fans to fill seats for 3 to 4 games, depending if you play a loser game before a championship game.

Maybe BC, Northeastern, Harvard and Cornell? Total speculation, but the field would make sense in terms of bringing in crowds. Plus a good dose of wishful thinking on my part. :)

I doubt they'd do another BU/Cornell game as they want to try to keep that 'fresh' by spacing it out a little bit.

I've always wondered why we don't have a prominent holiday tournament in the Northeast (no offense to the Dartmouth and UConn tournaments...). I know we have the Beanpot, but it would be fun to have an elite-level holiday tournament in Boston or New York that changed up the teams every year.

No way 3 Beanpot teams would be in another tourney together besides the Beanpot. It would be 2 Beanpot teams at most, and they'd have to be guaranteed not to play each other. Also, if they ever did any sort of tourney at MSG it would have to move from Thanksgiving to winter break because the Preseason NIT ends that Friday of Thanksgiving break.

This is true. Duh.

Maybe a Big 10 team like Michigan? They usually have good alumni presence in NY. Also I could see UNH getting in on it since their fans usually travel well.

Taking a quick glance at eLynah, this is what the Cornell fans are hoping for. Some of them were saying they want to become the MSG "home team" and play a game there every year. They were saying that it's difficult to get teams like Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, NoDak or Denver to come to Lynah, but that they'd be much more likely to go to MSG because of the added publicity. I would assume they'd aim to keep getting BU there pretty regularly as well, along with probably NU and BC and possibly UNH.

Heading up to Hanover, dragging the GF along with me. She'll root for UML most likely.

I'd be very surprised to see NU at MSG but if so, I'd sure as hell make the trip!

The Integer teams have a pretty full nonconference schedule between their games against one another and their own tournaments. Wisconsin and Minnesota both host holiday tournaments (and NU has played in both), and Michigan plays in the GLI every season.

From the subsequent post, I think you'd have a very decent shot at North Dakota. They're playing in ND's holiday tournament outside Chicago this year. The Sioux are one of the better big-arena teams about traveling.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Merry Christmas, NU fans! I imagine Coach Cronin's holiday went something like this:

1. Fall asleep in office on Christmas Eve staring blankly at copy of active roster.

2. Wake up at 2am, pull bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label from a desk drawer, call Steve Quailer and ask if he's "better yet."

3. Call Alex Tuckerman immediately afterward and implore him to score more.

4. Watch tape from each one of last season's late game collapses. Invent new curse words.

5. Call Shawn McEachern at home to try new curse words on him.

6. Wax new surfboard (Christmas gift to himself)

7. Watch favorite parts of "Miracle". Silently weep.

7. Pass out again at 6am, wake at 10am, and drive Zamboni down Comm Ave back to his apartment.

These are facts.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

My personal wish list for the upcoming tourney at Dartmouth is short and sweet.

I don't care about wins/loses as much as one of the two following coming true:

1.) Some life in our offense, I want to come away from this tourney with confidence in our offense, so I'd like it to show up for both games

OR

2.) NO DUMB PENALTIES!

If one of those two happen I'll be happy, winning these games doesnt mean much as we aren't fighting for an at large bid to the ncaa tourney.

I was surprised when I looked at the stattracker and saw that it was 7-0 in favor of NU. Then I realized that it really wasn't our offense finally coming to life, because Nebraska was playing (who knew they had hockey?). Looks like Northeastern got an extended break!

pretty bummed i got snowed in and missed this display of offense, hope it stays, if it doesnt this game means nothing. also nice to see a great bounce back game from rawlings. nothing to complain about, let's see how we play lowell today given that we play them in less than a week when it counts.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Well, if nothing else, maybe this tournament can serve as a springboard for the back half of the season. I have to say, I was a little surprised with the win over Lowell, but I wish I could have seen it in person. Seems like the kind of game we're going to have to win a few times over the next couple of months in the stretch run.

Now we get to follow this up with two televised home games next weekend...I'm just hoping that enough of the student body has migrated back to campus for Saturday night to make a strong showing.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

Congrats team.. :)

Nice way to end the holidays & start the New Yr.

I am happy for Rawlings & all other freshman especially. Tuckerman skated very well all wknd as well. McNeely skated more disciplined. Hopefully this momentum carries into a tough Hockey East wknd with back to back games. Both televised.. Sat (NESN), Sun (ESPN U). Both at home.. let's get Matthews rockin for the new yr..

Again, nice job Coaches & team. Now practice hard all week! :)

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

2 huge games this weekend to pick up some HE points at home and build some momentum after our tournament win. It was good to see Rawlings back from his head injury playing spectacular. It will be a hard feat to beat Lowell twice in a row, Rawlings need to play well again because their defense and goaltending is superb. However, if we can get a win Saturday night I will feel excellent going into Sunday because UMass is really sliding and we are starting to pick up steam.

Im going to go out on a limb and say that beating UML again, will turn the season around for NU and it would give them enough momentum to get home ice. Im also going to say we dont beat UML again.

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thiessen

..both televised gms (1/9 NESN, 1/10 ESPNU)... (big media wknd not withstanding), NU has to skate complete 60 minutes tonight.

Lowell will be looking for payback from the Hanover loss. Last night, they were up 2-0 to UNH before the Wildcats forced the tie..

Let's go out there & earn the 2 points tonight first. Sunday's gm is far away for now.. here's hoping for a good home crowd as well. Go Huskies!!! :)
