I'd like to think we'll make the playoffs at least. If BU doesn't, it will make the season for me regardless of where we end up.

Eh, I don't think it's that simple. Last year everything came together perfectly and we had the best goalie in the country, but I hesitate to call it 'flukey' just as this year isn't 'flukey'. We're a young team with a lot of talent and a promising recruiting class coming in next year. We're rebuilding after losing a lot last year. I'm optimistic for the next few years, but this year is going to be inconsistent, it's the nature of a young team with two rookie goalies.

It is what it is.

I've had thoughts about the next few years too, but for some reason I haven't heard many other comments about it...

We could very well have a powerhouse team with all this young talent to work with....

Not if these young skilled recruits take penalties like their upperclassmen.

Edit:

Vermy went down with what sounded like a hand injury, anyone have any news on that?

I've been following NU hockey for fifteen years now, and not once in that time have we finished ahead of BU in the standings. If we can do that, it will make NU's season for me. (I need a little more than that to make ND's season for me. :p)

****.. from what I can gather, BU has only finished below NU once.

In the 1988/89 season, when NU finished 3rd and BU 5th

From Saturday's NY Post. Ranger coach on a former bu player. Specifically, he wants Gilroy to work on "competing."
" He has a lot to learn about the game, and I don't give a **** if he's a Hobey Baker award winner or not." Gilroy was then demoted to Hartford.

Looks like HE is starting to get some separation with UNH, BC and Maine up top and PC and BU at the bottom. Us and The Mack not too much farther ahead. I'd like to think we'll make the playoffs at least. If BU doesn't, it will make the season for me regardless of where we end up.

I'm going to try and make the tournament up in Hanover to start the year out. Nice town to hang out in for a day assuming it isn't -10 degrees outside.

NU fans, is this the general belief of the entire fanbase? If NU finishes 9th and BU 10th will it be a good year to be a NU hockey fan? Better than last year, with BU finishing 1st and NU one point behind in 2nd (pretending, for a second, that BU and NU didn't win any postseason hardware in 09)? Not trolling, flaming, insulting or anything else negative, just curious.

NU fans enjoy hating BU more they enjoy rooting for their team.

Well, in an ideal world bu's losing streaks wouldn't be coinciding with a poor record for us.

But in an ideal world, I would have all ten fingers on my left hand so that my right would just be a fist for punching.

To be fair, that's only half pretending (unless you're talking about individual players too, not just the team).

But personally, I'd much rather see NU do well. It's not looking good right now though. If we're going to be bad though, then yes I would be satisfied with just finishing better than bu. If NU is 9th and bu is 10th, that would at least be a small positive from the season.

there is little more joyful than watching sanctimonious bu fans harp on NU fans for behavior eirely similar to their own.

bu hockey: do as we say not as we do?

...hey bu.. bc.. take it outside..

..like to Fenway or something

Re: Official 2009-2010 Northeastern University Huskies Season Thread - Life Post Thie

i think that if we're going to suck, we might as well suck less than BU...

Therefore, finishing better than BU is a nice consolation prize.

Hopefully we can pull our ***** together and get something going. But at this point I'm not expecting anything.

Gotta love seeing BU fans trolling in a NU thread. And then confirming for us their sense of entitlement. As if anyone would ever forget that.

Interesting reader comments on that article. I hadn't realized that Gilroy was already 25, and people were questioning how much more he can really "develop" at that age. He's one of the few BU players I actually enjoyed watching.

JS.. its funny, feels like roles reversed.. with CC being up at #3 in the nation with Howe in goal.. reminds me of another team last yr ranked #3 in the nation with guy named Thiessen in goal..

I am happy for you & your (home) team :) And to think we split with you guys... (would not be possible with the way we're playing now)...but really, g'luck the rest of the season.
