It has to start somewhere. And on a per capita basis you face long odds on reaching adulthood once you're conceived in DC.
Not good enough. It has been said that all fetuses "have to be killed at all costs". Time to get cracking!

Wait...I thought crime dropped in the 90's because abortion was legalized in 1973...

More than one cause can contribute to the same outcome....
> fewer criminals committing crime (to the extent that you believe that had those abortions not occurred, they would have turned into unwanted children who were more likely to be abused who were more likely to grow up into criminals and gang members -- I suppose it's a good thing that this remains [someone else's] conjecture, since no data possibly could be available!);
> while those criminals who did survive their time in the womb also were deterred by the knowledge that their putative victims might fight back (which purportedly is data-supported in the referenced study).

Crime drops after concealed carry passed

A pretty intensive study of crime rates after concealed carry laws have been passed in various states.

:) John Lott?

His work is worth less than toilet paper. He is a right wing conservative who just happens to be a specialist finding 'fact based' studies to prove his theories:

Against liberal media bias
Against environmental policy
The 'negative' impact of hiring minorities into police departments
How abortion increases crime
...and negative impacts of giving women the right to vote

Florida was the first state to pass a RTC concealed handgun law in 1987. Between 1987 and 1994, the violent crime rate in Florida increased 11.7 percent. According to the FBI Uniform Crime Report, Florida also had the highest violent crime rate of any of state in the nation.

Until those most concerned with security such as banks, airlines, government offices welcome or even allow folks with concealed handguns...we know just how safe they are.

And how about all the other states that had their crime rates (especially violent crime) drop? Where are all these bodies in the street that were predicted prior to concealed carry passing?

While there may have been abuses (such as the case in Florida potentially may be) I would say the benefits have far outweighed any negative consequences.

Re: Obama XXIII: The Muslin Anti-Christ Wages War on the forces of Christianity!

Concealed handguns aren't about personal safety, they're a cultural issue. I had no idea what to make of the whole NRA gun-clutching thing until I moved to a place where everybody grew up with guns. I've changed my mind on the issue completely: everybody I know here who has guns also had great safety training, including a lot of military training where they learned to handle weapons a helluva more dangerous than a pistol.

Arguing with people here about gun violence would be like arguing with people that they shouldn't drive cars because of the accidents. It's just talking past each other. I'm not states' rights about much, but on guns I am in favor of letting states do whatever they want.

And yet, incessant posts by Huffington Post are OK. Something tells me there may be a double standard.

I just love hearing the NRA argue that an automatic weapon that fires 100 rounds a second is necessary for hunting. Really? If you like eating lead that much, just save money and eat the bullets.

That said, outlawing guns would be about as effective as outlawing cars. As long as people get extensive training, go ahead and use them. Just keep them away from kids. To use the car metaphor again, we require extensive training in how to drive and we don't let kids behind the wheel.

That argument has never been made in the history of the world. Or perhaps you could link the documents you're referring to?

Yes, we had the same experience when we moved to Wyoming. Changed my attitude entirely as well.

One time I was in a bar and two old-timers were reminiscing...."do you remember the murder?" "yeah, when was that....12 years ago?"
We had a father-son night at the municipal rec center and one of the activities was target shooting in the shooting range in the basement. Learning to handle guns safely and responsibly occurs around the same time as learning to ride a bicycle.

I always remember a snippet from some television show I saw once. A guy goes into a bar thinking to rob it, not knowing it's a bar routinely frequented by policemen. He pulls his gun on the bartender and seconds later every person in the bar has their gun trained at him.

In Maine its illegal to hunt with an automatic weapon, sure its been though

Well, those guns are in the hunting section of various websites, including the NRA.

This innovative design turns the AR platform into an adaptable, dual-fed system suitable for almost any mission.
Mission?

Haven't all states had their crime rates drop over the last 20 years? Even the ones that don't have concealed carry laws? A better measure would be states with concealed laws vs those without.

How's the hockey scene in Wyoming? ;)

Kind of rough, actually, unless you had an inside rink, or freezer coils at your outside rink, at least where we lived. It was generally windy, so that when the ponds froze, they all had ripples instead of flat smooth surfaces. If you tried to create an outdoor rink by flooding an area with water, the sun was so bright due to the thinner atmosphere that it would shine through the ice and then melt it from below even though the temperature would never get above freezing. The ponds were fine for skating but you couldn't really play a serious game on them. Great fun for pickup games though.

What was really fun was softball. You could really crack that ball far in the high altitude. I've never seen home runs carry so far anywhere else.
