Or perhaps you can't imagine that people could come to conclusions other than your own, without being under the spell of Rush or someone like him?
I'm thinking you didn't somehow independently concoct the identical political theory that's been spoonfed to GOP voters for decades, yeah.

There are plenty of conservatives who don't march lock-step with the Gubmint Bad Moar Missles Grunt crowd. I'm fine with them. It was after all a conservative who coined the phrase "we will never be free until the last Neocon is strangled with the entrails of the last American Exceptionalist."

Yup, that's why I opposed the wars, oppose the death penalty, support reasonable gun control, etc. You really need to work on your schtick. You're off today.

Re: Obama XXIII: The Muslin Anti-Christ Wages War on the forces of Christianity!

I think the did you/did you not support "the wars" is in reference to Iraq. As I recall, a lot of people opposed invading Iraq because they wanted to use those resources to go into Afghanistan. Right?
So anyway, I did support the invasion of Iraq after reading a lengthy essay somewhere about what Saddam's boys were getting up to on a Saturday night and some of the genocidal killing sprees that went on. I also supported a strategy that would have used overwhelming force to end the thing 8 years earlier than it happened, at less cost to the US in blood and treasure. Unfortunately, politicians got ahold of that "conflict" and turned it into the halfhearted mess we're all familiar with now. In hindsight, if I had known how inept we've become at waging war I never would have been in support at the time.
I also voted for Bush, and am a conservative. We all know how disappointing he was for conservatives. He turned out to be far more liberal than his predecessor, and did a lot as we've heard to set up the current spending spree with no end in sight.

There were also a lot of lies and propaganda going around about how terrible things were in Iraq. Once I learned about those, it sort of opened my eyes to be more skeptical of all politicians and especially the UN.

Correct. Everybody (well, 95%) agreed to go into Afghanistan and Get The Bastards Who Did It.

On Iraq, there were two dividing lines. The first was whether you supported the invasion of Iraq in the first place. A lot of us who ought to have known better (myself included) did.

The second diving line is among those who supported the invasion of Iraq: who figured out the continued occupation was a bad idea, and who never did.

My completely unscientific sense is that the numbers on either side of the two dividing lines are rough thirds. The spectrum also lines up almost exactly with the Libertarian <--> Authoritarian axis of the 2-way political test. Left-libertarians and radical right libertarians rejected Iraq from the start (for different reasons), while right wing authoritarians kept slamming their heads into the concrete all the way through either for (insane) neocon ideological reasons or overcompensation for having small penises.

In what way was he liberal?

Spending? Well considering if you want to pay for spending you're against jobs, a communist, and whatever bull**** knuckledraggers bring out to try and shut down conversation. Since he cut funding while increasing spending, the current GOP platform, doesn't that make him conservative? But do tell how he isn't. I'm sorry but the terminology has passed you up if you want to take it back.

I think he meant liberal is the sense of "profligate."

Bush was 0 parts liberal, 3 parts conservative, and 7 parts idiot.

Like that SNL skit where Reagan was just faking being a boob and was the brains of the whole operation. :)

Re: Obama XXIII: The Muslin Anti-Christ Wages War on the forces of Christianity!

The notion that neo-cons are generally hypocrites is indisputable. Righties didn't turn on Bush until AFTER the GOP lost control of Congess in '06. Had they not done so, it would have been "la da dee dah" about all the spending and increases in govt power for another two years.

But lets forget about that and cut to the chase here. For you conservatives I'm real curious: What exactly do you think Mitt Romney or Rick Santorum will be better at as President than Obama? This ought to be good...(cue the uhh..well...he wuz born in America).

I think you meant to say he was 0/10 liberal, 4/10 conservative and 7/10 idiot. See, it's funnier that way.;)

I never thought Iraq made sense (although my gut liked the idea of Saddam getting knocked out of power), simply from observing the history of the region. There was no reason to think that we could go in and do much more than kick Saddam out and make way for another dictator to take over after we left. It's not like Iraq (or surrounding countries) have ever shown much interest in democracy and such. Mix in the mix of Sunnis, Shiites, and Kurds and all the history amongst those groups, and it's hard to imagine any sort of long term stable democracy emerging there. When we went in, I hoped against hope I'd be wrong, and we'll see long term how wrong I was, or not.

I'm generally not big on international adventures, and those who are I think misunderstand the world of today.

Re: Obama XXIII: The Muslin Anti-Christ Wages War on the forces of Christianity!

I know it's been beaten to death and 95% of us are in agreement, but once again for the other guy: "Today's GOP" IS NOT CONSERVATIVE. It's about the furthest thing away from it. These are the guys that want to continue oil company subsidies, and define what constitutes marriage by federal law. Give me a break. Whatever that is, it's not conservative.

And yet they all claim to be conservatives and they are actual politicians vs you who is sitting at home saying an entire political party who is spending millions/billions of dollars to promote their conservative values is not conservative.

Re: Obama XXIII: The Muslin Anti-Christ Wages War on the forces of Christianity!

On second thought, I guess defining "conservative" just depends on how you define "traditional" or its equivalent: "Conservative: Holding to traditional attitudes and values and cautious about change or innovation"
So if you think the good ol' days were before the revolutionary war, today's GOP is conservative. If you're slightly more modern and count liberty as being a "traditional" virtue, today's GOP is not.

They just want their white guy back, and Romney and Santorum both fit that qualification.

If I thought Rover had once ounce of genuine interest, I'd answer. I don't.
