Re: Obama XXII: Occupy the White House

C'mon yourself. I've already explained, but will do so again for the slow students: "Deadmeat" is how John Kass of the Chicago Tribune referred to the former governor of Illinois. I think it's an appropriate way to refer to our beloved leader. I realize it's a deviation from 8 years of respect for Bush, but I'm doing the best I can. And it's especially noteworthy that's the only takeaway from my post: a horrified, high pitched whine that I'm "insulting" the "smartest guy in the room" and in all "57" states for that matter. Grow up, ladies.

Big surprise you'd have a tantrum at even the slightest prevarication.

Big surprise at your big surprise. It wasn't a tantrum. It was pointing out how selective you are in your outrage. Waaaaah, he's calling Deadmeat a bad name. Mommmeeeee, make him stop.

You're about as fair and balanced as Fox.

Sharia law includes restrictions on banks? Well, holy crap, where do we sign up?

Re: Obama XXII: Occupy the White House

Further proof Sharia Law will never get a foothold...we never restrict the banks on anything ;)

It promotes charity, too. Talk about being out of step with American values. :D

It does keep the skirts in their place, though.

Interesting happenings in Albany:
ALBANY -- In a tense battle of wills, state troopers and Albany police held off making arrests of dozens of protesters near the Capitol over the weekend even as Albany's mayor, under pressure from Gov. Andrew Cuomo's administration, had urged his police chief to enforce a city curfew.

The situation intensified late Friday evening when Jennings, who has cultivated a strong relationship with Cuomo, directed his department to arrest protesters who refused to leave the city-owned portion of a large park that's across Washington Avenue from the Capitol and City Hall.

At the Capitol, in anticipation of possibly dozens of arrests, a State Police civil disturbance unit was quietly activated, according to officials briefed on the matter but not authorized to comment publicly. But as the curfew neared, the group of protesters estimated at several hundred moved across an invisible line in the park from state land onto city property.

"We were ready to make arrests if needed, but these people complied with our orders," a State Police official said. However, he added that State Police supported the defiant posture of Albany police leaders to hold off making arrests for the low-level offense of trespassing, in part because of concern it could incite a riot or draw thousands of protesters in a backlash that could endanger police and the public.

"We don't have those resources, and these people were not causing trouble," the official said.

---
The police strategy in Albany was evident early Friday. Krokoff issued a departmentwide memo instructing officers "to be continually aware of the possibility that a small element may intentionally seek to draw us into conflict," according to a copy obtained by the Times Union. "At this time I have no intention of assigning officers to monitor, watch, videotape or influence any behavior that is conducted by our citizens peacefully demonstrating in Academy Park. ... In the event we are required to respond to a crime in progress or a reported crime, we will do so in the same manner that we do on a daily basis."

They can lose the cops and survive. If they lose the army, they're toast.

I wouldn't take a chance with losing the cops. Enough people respect cops, especially in NY after 9-11, that it would hurt PR and justify a crackdown. Play the game for now. With most other people *coughTeaParty* in full wharrgarbl mode at the moment, there's a lot of good karma to be gained by being a breath of fresh air and being respectful and obedient.

I'll agree with the other point, though. Single best thing that could happen to them is they start picking up returning Iraq/Afghanistan veterans who are going through tough times. That would really boost their public perception. Second best would be at least making peace with the Tea Party, but that's easier said than done.

Similar things in NYC. There was a march to the famous bull on Wall Street and police followed on scooters, but as long as they moved it was OK...then they were met by pizza delivery guys and had an impromptu pizza party at the bull. Then...

Supposedly there are some off-duty policemen and some brokers with the protesters chanting "It's our pensions too!" However, one of the protesters reportedly looks a lot like one of the "Yes Men" comedy troupe, so there is some speculation that it may be a put up job.

Regardless, it certainly appears the police are taking a "Live and Let Live" approach to the protesters.

Which is more than can be said for some of the terrorists among us...

Here in Maine

PORTLAND — Occupy Maine protesters say Sunday morning's attack with a chemical explosive has left them with a mixture of anxiety and resolve.

"We are more motivated to keep doing what we're doing," said Stephanie Wilburn, of Portland, who was sitting near where the chemical mixture in a Gatorade bottle was tossed at 4 a.m. Sunday. "They have heard us and we're making a difference."

Wilburn said she was startled and briefly lost hearing in her left ear when the device exploded beneath a table about 10 feet away. Wilburn's hearing returned and police said no injuries were reported.

Portland police Sgt. Glen McGary said the bomb was thrown into the camp’s kitchen, a tarped area where food is cooked and served. Protest organizers said the explosion lifted a large table about a foot off the ground.

McGary said the homemade bomb, which consisted of chemicals poured into a plastic Gatorade container could have caused serious injury.

I can bet there are a few people reading this who are sorry they missed...

It's funny, but I actually meant the other "they." The Fortune 500 can lose the cops -- it might even help them because nightly TV violence (real or manufactured) will scare the sheeple.

But if the troops returning home figure out they're being bent over the rail, that will not go well for the boardrooms. All they need is a new Bonus Army:

That's one of those oddly resilient and oft-parroted myths. Depending on the year and data set analyzed, the US is somewhere between 1st and 5th in charitable giving as a percentage of income. We do OK in that department. We're cheaper than New Zealanders and Australians and maybe the Canadians and Swiss and Irish, but far more generous than the Islamic paradises and far, far, far more generous than the Chinese, who seem not to hold charity as a virtue.
