Re: Obama XXII: Occupy the White House

NEA conference, which obviously can't be during the school year

A) who pays for this? If it is the NEA that pays for the event then that comes from teacher's dues which come from their salaries

And their salaries come from the taxpayers!

In the same way that an employee at Lockheed gets his salary from the taxpayers.

While you're scrounging up info on conferences, try them or other defense contractors. I'm sure when they have a conference the taxpayers don't have to pay a dime...

Except that Lockheed is a private company, so it's not the same thing. There are at least adversarial forces in play (management vs. union workers). When it comes to education, the administrators are in the same union as the workers, so there's no counterbalance to potential abuses. I doubt you'll never see the rank-and-file of the IAM at a week-long golf retreat...

When did Lockheed get the power of taxation?

Re: Obama XXII: Occupy the White House

A local golf tournament nearby their own plant is the same thing in your world? Seriously?

The golf tournament is part of the freakin' conference. And it isn't intended for people who work there...how often do you take a guided tour of the place you work?

So, lockheed brings prospective and existing customers in to promote sales. Something that most large sales companies do.

The correlation to the NEA isn't tight enough for a comparison of tactics.

The point of me posting that was relative to the expense and who pays for it. Correct me if I'm wrong but lockheed does have clients outside the us too.

I would guess that if lockheed had an internal meeting they would at least take a moment to discuss how they are doing and what their goals are.

Of course it isn't tight enough to compare tactics...doing so would be harmful to your argument. So they're light years apart.

Your point is to attack the evil teacher's unions, not those saintly defense contractors. The fact that they get the bulk of their money from taxpayers is irrelevant.

Nice job on the bait and switch though...complain about a February conference in Arizona in one post (ignoring that there's a public school vacation in Feb) and post an agenda from a conference at the end of June in another.
ETA: I fail to see the golf outing listed on that NEA agenda...can you point it out to me? Also, is that a conference for teachers or someone else? Those don't seem to be topics of much interest to rank and file teachers, but more to lobbyists.

When planes start falling out of the sky, people lose their jobs.

When kids start failing their classes... Well, I guess nothing happens.

Those are similar...

Last time I checked the plane companies get to pick the components that go in their planes. Teachers don't get to pick their students.

Apples and Oranges.

Re: Obama XXII: Occupy the White House

its a sad day for America when we can no longer distinguish between private ownership and public ownership. :(

Re: Obama XXII: Occupy the White House

What? You're equating planes crashing to kids failing school...I'm supposed to take that seriously?

Actually, you should. The latter isn't just equal...it's far worse.

I suppose one could continue the analogy. What does an Air Force test pilot have that a child in a failing school district doesn't have?

A parachute.
