Funny. :) I'm talking about a role model like Ellen Degeneres on tv: strong female (sex) and openly gay (sexual orientation). Not that we need more (gay) sex or nudity on tv.

I would still vote for you Pio over Obama ... even if you tend toward Non-PC (even racist) views :D

There is plenty of evidence to support racism is alive and well (jobs, housing etc...). Not rampant but persistent 10-20% from several studies.

Tarek Fatah, founder of the Muslim Canadian Congress, questioned why Muslims constituted a category in the poll.

"Discrimination in this country is essentially a race issue,” he said. “If the Muslim is white, nobody has a problem. If the Muslim is black, people are petrified. So in the end it is a question about colour, not religion.”

The poll also suggests Canadians aged 18 to 29 are more likely than any other age bracket to say discrimination is pervasive. But that age group also saw the highest level of improvement in perceived tolerance in the past four years, a rise some see as indicative of growing acceptance.

Devah Pager, a sociologist at Northwestern University, studied employers' treatment of job applicants in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, by dividing job applicants into four groups

The study focused on the likelihood that an applicant would be called back for a job interview. Not surprisingly, whites without a criminal record were most likely to be invited back (34%) and blacks with a criminal record were the least likely (5%). Perhaps most striking, the study found that only 14% of blacks without a criminal record were called back for an interview—less than the 17% of whites that did have a criminal record.

You quote a Canadian Muslim. That's where I go to get the straight dope. You quote a "racism" study from UK. Isn't that where some non-racist roving gangs of blacks burned down significant parts of London? You also keep posting from studies on employment and inferring subjective motivation from objective result. Voila. It's gotta be racism. There are approximately 20 million girls between the ages of 5 and 14.

Say a fair number of them turned out to be proud of and spurred to study harder by a first woman president. Are all those girls sexist?

That link didn't provide a lot of detail regarding that study - i.e. how many applicants and how many companies were involved and the type(s) of jobs they were attempting to get. For example, you might see significant bias in middle or upper management positions but very little for openings further down the food chain. You might also see quite a bit of variation simply based on the industry involved.

Future President Michele Bachmann explained this weekend on the campaign trail how God is on her side. How could anyone in their right mind not vote for her now?

Reign in spending. Start with abolishing the National (embarrassment, as I heard on Rush today) Weather Service. What a WASTE of money.

Ah, so you've swung back to being a supporter of bloated federal spending. But, yes, I'm sure the NWS is at the top of her hit list to reign in spending. Good catch.

Bachmann's Irene comments just a joke: spokeswoman

MIAMI (Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann's campaign said on Monday she was only joking when she described Hurricane Irene and last week's earthquake in the eastern United States as a warning from God.

TheMinnesota congresswoman, who has gained media prominence for her fiery attacks on Democratic President Barack Obama, said in Florida that Irene was an act of God to get politicians' attention to the debt and deficit problem.

"Of course she was saying it in jest," Alice Stewart, spokeswoman for Bachmann's campaign, told Reuters.
