You realize you could have just posted this statement and saved yourself a few words, right? :p :D

If the Jews aren't likely to defect to the GOP, perhaps the GOP would be better off reversing course on Israel and courting the Muslim vote instead. Of course, that would require far less fear-mongering when it comes to mosques and the like.

Sure. Give job creators huge tax breaks and when that doesn't work whine about regulations and that they're still paying taxes. Rinse, repeat.

Catholics are an interesting case. During Reagan it looked like a mass realignment of working class white Catholics to the GOP was a possibility -- they had a lot of affinities (anti-abortion, resentment/fear of black growth in the cities, Reagan thought he was the Gipper). But they blew it by becoming so closely identified with evangelical Christians, whom Catholics and Jews are both very squirrelly about (for good reason).

Catholics also tend to be more communitarian and have a lot of problems with the crackpot economic Darwinism of the right. Again, the GOP had a shot with brown Catholics during the early days of Dubya, but they blew it again with their shrieking anti-immigration rhetoric.

American politics is like watching a game between two terrible football teams. The Dems have a lousy D-line and a balanced run attack would shred them, but all the GOP knows how to do is stand back in the white southern pocket and throw bombs.

You forgot to mention that every time the Dems get the ball, they immediately punt it back to the GOP. :D

Clever, as usual, but half right. Even so, I'll bet we can agree on the unpardonable growth of anti-Semitism among African Americans. Much of it expressed by "The Reverands." Jackson talking about "hymietown" and Sharpton about "interlopers." People got dead after Sharpton's fulminations. It might make you forget that Jews marched for civil rights. That Jews died for civil rights: Schwerner and Goodman. I can't explain it. But I know ugly when I see it.

Most Jews know the real reason the GOP supports Israel and it isnt because they love the Jews...

And as long as the GOP is so far to the right even the Fundamentalists are scared the Jews will flee. (minus the hardcore Lebovacher types) Social Liberals (as most American Jews are) would never support the social agenda of the GOP.

Yeah, if the Jews had been relocated in Uruguay, the GOP wouldn't give a rip about them. (Well, I suppose there might be copper mines there.)

The heavy intellectual emphasis of Jews and (other than in Boston) Catholics is also the opposite of the derp-da-derp that is the far right. When the good ol' boys start drawling on about "elitists," people who actually value education roll their eyes.

And what percentage of Republicans believe that stuff? Honestly, allegedly intelligent people who throw their prejudices around so freely. While simultanesouly congratulating themselves on how open minded they are. Bigotry is bigotry, and the sooner "liberals" learn it, the better.

I believe most Americans support Israel because it's a small country, born of the Holocaust, democratic, which shares our Judeo/Christian heritage and has persevered in the face of implacable opposition, from a vastly numerically superior enemy who has attacked her multiple times over the decades, only to have their a*ses handed to them time after time. Daring and bold (think of the raid on Entebbe). A country which only asks its enemies to recognize its right to exist. Despite a few espisodes (strafing the Liberty, Jonathon Pollard, et al) where Israel behaved badly, on balance, they are a reliable and valuable ally. And deserving of our support.

I'm not open minded at all. I'll be the first to admit that.

And according to: http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/pdf/PPP_Release_US_0602.pdf It looks like 18% of GOP primary voters believe it's going to happen within their lifetime vs 11% overall.

They've never recognized this before, so don't expect them to start seeing it in themselves now. When you are as smart as they are, you can't be a bigot.

So your idea is to smear 82% based on what 18% believe? Nice. I repeat, bigotry is bigotry. I'm sure folks on the White Citizens Council in Selma didn't look upon themselves as bigoted, either.

A generation or two ago, this kind of "thinking" was very popular in certain parts of the country. Just not aimed at conservative Christians. "Why, I'm not prejudiced, but I still think "nigras" should be in their own schools."

I'm a bigot, you're a bigot, that guy over there's a bigot. Everyone's a bigot. Well, maybe not the Dali Lama, he seems to genuinely like everyone. But I'm sure he can't be 100% happy with everyone involved in the whole "keeping him from going home" thing.
