Re: Obama XXI: Kenyan Muslins are ruining this country!

While this is a good argument in the abstract, Obama went to Punahou School in Hawaii, which is where you go if you're a little too snobby for Phillips Academy.

Which was pretty much my point. IF BHO were an AA admit, he'd be trumpeting the fact, not hiding it. He's not trumpeting it, so it's pretty obvious that he wasn't.

(def. familiar with Punahou - had several classmates from there. Surprisingly normal people, actually)

Re: Obama XXI: Kenyan Muslins are ruining this country!

CBS might as well be Obamas media relations firm. They're such shills its unreal

And the NYT today editorialized they were "shocked, shocked" at this whole episode and the bad people responsible for it. They conveniently failed to mention BHO, who could have strangled this baby in the crib years ago. Quelle surprise.

I used to think I was pretty big shot, after all my old man was a big deal surgeon in Chi. Then a fraternity brother from Ovando, Montana announced he had attended The American School in Switzerland. Subsequently, when the Tigers got into the World Series, his grandfather (who was chairman of the board of the 1st National Bank of Detroit) sent him world series tickets and instructions on where to find the bank's jet, which he had sent to Stapleton to pick up his grandson. Have a nice weekend.

This moment in strong hand tactics comes from the same meeting where Obama supposedly referred to gov't employees as "slugs"... again, par for the course for this administration... they've been doing underhanded stuff like this right along... which just serves to remind us that "transparent" is another word for "light-blocking"

elect a corrupt Chicago politician and you get a corrupt Chicago politician.

Re: Obama XXI: Kenyan Muslins are ruining this country!

If BHO was an AA admit and BHO is an advocate of AA (just guessing, there), then he should be trumpeting that fact from the mountaintops.

Just makes me think...

Man...how folks have become tweeky about the presidental issues they harp on.

Sorry but I don't think there's anything illegal or strictly immoral about BOs behavior. I remember just a short decade ago that folks were letting about everything slide...wars, potential of amending the Constitution to limit citizens rights, etc. Its probably a sign that things are pretty decent if the potential of BO and AA is what's on folks mind.

I'm not sure exactly what tweeky means, but I don't think I was harping on any issue - just thinking through logically whether it was likely he was or wasn't an AA admit. My conclusion was that he wasn't, so nothing to see here, move along.

Maybe people have become tweeky about what they consider harping?

I never met anyone that well-heeled at Cornell (I think they could afford to buy their way into Yale... ;) ) but when I lived in Somerville I met folks at Tufts and Harvard who had been sent to actual "finishing school" in Switzerland. From what I gathered, it was 2 years of the finest cocaine snorted off the backs of the finest Dutch prostitutes while sipping wines that cost more per glass than my house is worth. The people in question defied all sense by actually turning out to be nice and self-effacing and well aware that life's fortunes had been ridiculously good to them, when by all rights they should have been Damien Thorn.

Re: Obama XXI: Kenyan Muslins are ruining this country!

I'll make the point again. Thomas opponants sneered constantly that he "was a beneficiary of affirmative action," while he opposed it in his professional life. The charge was hypocricy, with no evidence ever adduced that he had been a beneficiary of affirmative action.

I honestly don't recall that part of the battle (I don't doubt it happened, though -- it sounds very 80's on all sides). I do recall that all the Anita Hill stuff took place when he was heading up the agency that hears EEOC complaints, so there were snow drifts of irony.

Now you're a pretty smart guy

I prefer to think of myself as a smart pretty guy...

so please don't try to peddle the notion that any black who turns out to be conservative isn't invariably described as being inauthentic. You do remember Harry Belafonte describing Colin Powell and Condi Rice as being "house n*****s" don't you?

"Invariably" depends on who's doing the talking. I know that whenever any person makes that charge there's an attempt to broad brush it as coming from everyone the speaker has a bone to pick with. If you listen to talk radio, any time *any* liberal says something stupid, that's attributed to *all* liberals. I think it's official editorial Fox News policy, in fact. Harry Belafonte is irrelevant -- opinions are like you know what.

You responded to an argument I didn't make. And your points don't refute what I said about the MSM, and Thomas, and affirmative action. And for the second time, my primary focus was on the alleged journalist Bob Schieffer, who suggested any mention of BHO in the same breath with "affirmative actiion" was, ipso facto racist. I don't know that it is. And I don't recall Schieffer getting his panties in a wad when his liberal pals brought up affirmative action during the Thomas hearings. It's a narrow point.

Very narrow. You're basically saying Bob Schieffer said something dumb. Maybe he did. How does that have anything to do with anything? Again, you seem to be just raising up straw men to burn down for your own amusement. Now that can definitely be satisfying, but it's not an "argument," it's just taking a machete to the sugar cane. (If I had been a Republican and said that, it would have been racist...)

The rest of your argument here is just liberal boiler plate. Charming and erudite, but boiler plate nonetheless.

Insofar as pointing out the facts of the record is "boilerplate," yeah, I guess so. :)

Re: Obama XXI: Kenyan Muslins are ruining this country!

Is what Bob Schieffer said that much different than what, say, Juan Williams said on Fox?

Not arguing that CBS doesn't have a strong political slant - I haven't watched CBS news since probably about the GHWB administration...

Met a few people like that at Dartmouth. One was a girl from Sweden who's basically racking up as many degrees as possible since money is no object (she's got like 4 masters already and is working on her PhD). There was also the "Southern Gentleman" who wore 3-piece suits daily and whose family owned like half the state of South Carolina or some crap like that (and who still called it the War of Northern Aggression). Then there was the guy a year or two older than me whose great-grandfather perfected the assembly line or something mundane like that. Not sure where his money came from if that's all that happened. Think his name was Harold or Hank or Henry, something like that.

Of course, then there was the Indian kid who was the family disappointment for only getting into the Dartmouth (and not the Harvard) and getting an economics degree, when his sister was getting a PhD in physics from MIT and his other sibling got his M.D. from Johns Hopkins.

My heart goes out to him. My brother got his degree in Biochemistry from MIT at 20 and my father helped design the Lunar Module. That about wraps it up for my self worth.

Oh, they're taller, too.

He did, he released the legal document. Years ago.

And here's a huge shocker: the nutbars have detected that the new form is "obviously" a forgery. Quelle surprise.

Here's how Frank P. Mintz defined "conspiracism" in the 1980's. It fits the Birther movement perfectly.

"Conspiracism serves the needs of diverse political and social groups in America and elsewhere. It identifies elites, blames them for economic and social catastrophes, and assumes that things will be better once popular action can remove them from positions of power. As such, conspiracy theories do not typify a particular epoch or ideology."

In other words, it will always be with us, and it is a hunger that grows in the feeding. Just look at the Comments on the link:

This is no surprise. Everything about this man is phony. But the worst thing about him is that he’s an anti-white racist just like Malcom X, who was also a mulatto.

The only difference between the two is that Malcolm X was more open and honest than this lying racist.

Obama prefers to let his attorney general holder do his racial cleansing, while he stands back in the shadows and appoints communists and anti-white haters to his administration.

Well, we live in such a world of phony this, phony that and the vener of it all makes us only look at the intention of the documents presented. People that want to believe the official story will buy it only because they want to believe it’s real. Then there’s the rest of us, a very small group of folks that have learned to question everything about our “story” tellers. One of the big losers in these “news events” is the news media themselves. They lose because fewer and fewer people believe anything they report. Pravda, of the old soviet empire was read by everyone but believed by no one. People acquired the ability to read between the lines and the lies. This document release was in the best spirit of the Pravda folks. The difference with our media outlets and Pravda is that Pravda was forced on the Russians. Our news media volunteered to do the states propaganda and basically without protest. Now the likes of PP has to try and unravel this Birther issue while much bigger issue take leave of the stage. You can thank the state propaganda apparatchik for that.

I’m not convinced, and if that makes me an “extremist” or “racist,” so be it.

IF Obama had been born in Hawaii, as he pretends, WHY did he receive the benefits of a scholarship designed solely for foreign exchange students, hmmm?

Everything I’ve seen, read, and heard about this guy, including his professed “Christianity,” is suspect. Moslems HATE and issue KILL orders to any Muslim who converts to a different religion. And the worst case scenario is when a Muslim converts to Christianity. That – in the eyes of most Muslims – is unforgivable. So how is it that Obama goes to even a “liberal” or “progressive” Christian church, without getting himself killed at the hands of one of his “Muslim Brothers”? The fact that he’d listen to a venemous, seething, hate-filled false prophet such as Jeremiah Wright alone speaks volumes. Any white person that votes for this piece of trash is acting on a death wish. His mother was a piece of communist trash, and he’s little more than a CIA creation, intended to stomp out the last vestiges of constitutional government. You might as well elect George Soros President, if you pull the switch for Obama in the voting booth. And if you think George Soros is your friend, woe unto you.

Nice.

As long as they don't get clonky or grotly related to being tweeky or snarky when it comes to harping then I've got no zelidity in that fight. any of that changes and it is "Katie bar the loynard".

I think my favorite piece of "proof" that is is fake is the guy who said that they would not have printed race as "African" but instead would have put "Negro." So that means its a fake...

I like the "suddenly everybody's a documentation authentication expert" effect.

BTW, one thing about the internet. The interval between a crackpot conspiracy theory between floated and debunked is now about 15 minutes. When even NRO rebuts a right wing slander job, you know it was a pretty stupid one. :)

Nice.

Yes, he released the leagal document. No question about that. However, as you well know, this matter had morphed into the production of the "long form" document (which will get a lot of laughs if you try to use it to acquire a pass port). Now for months we'd been told of laws in Hawaii that prevent the production of the document, even for the person involved. It can't be seen. It can't be shown. And maybe, if you fill out a form, they'll let you take a little peek at it. Now we learn that it took a letter from the president and a few days and this document materialized. My point is only that he could have prodcued it weeks, months, years ago and didn't. Why? Only he can answer. As I said earlier, maybe he was just being stubborn, maybe he thought the contretemps would help his narrative that Republicans are nut jobs, I don't know. But the indisputable facts are that had he wanted to release the document (as the events of this week show) he could have.

As most of us predicted, releasing this document isn't the end of it, at least in the minds of the true believers. Social security numbers. Selective Service documents (we had ended the draft, so who gives a ch*t, certainly not me). And on and on into the night. The is the one reliable thing about all conspiracy theories--there is no amount of proof sufficient for the TB's. We've seen it with JFK and with the "truthers." Of course with the "truthers" the MSM isn't quite as quick to pronounce them as mostly Democrats, and produce polls showing their level of support among registered Democrats. But that's just a quibble. Any movement whose most well known advocates are those two experts on metallurgy Rosie O'Donnel and Charlie Sheen can't be taken seriously for even one second.

And quoting a limited selection of idiot responses to this matter is entertaining, but proves nothing. That could be done on any subject at any time. The internet has turned some amateur loons into professionals. This is news?

Finally, I ran across this question on another site: What criticism of this president and his administration is permissable and not racist?

Bob Schieffer not only said something dumb, he said something a big chunk of the MSM quite obviously believe--BHO is the greatst thing since On-Cor Frozen Sliced Beef with Gravy, therefore any criticism of him can only come from racial animus. Horsesh*t.

That's a very limited analogy seeing that NPR fired Williams and the head of that nest of Mumia lovers herself got canned. I don't see Schieffer's job being in much jeopardy for him saying what most of them believe.

Come now, NRO has at least as much integrity as your pals at Wonkette (I know, they used to be better). But I agree about the "expert" effect, whether on documents or film analysis (JFK) or any other aspect of a "conspiracy." People who don't have the sense to pour water out of a boot, if the instructions are printed on the heel, suddenly begin arguments with: "Everyone knows" or "It's a well established fact that."

Just yesterday that loathsome slug who represents Sirhan B. Sirhan unveiled a new explanation of the RFK killing. In it, the "girl in the polka dot dress" has morphed into the "control" who applied some sort of "magic touch" to that murderous little Palestinian pr*ck and caused him to begin shooting--even though someone else (whom none of the witnesses in that crowded room saw) fired the fatal bullets. Oh how I wish Rosie Greer had broken that little arsewipe's neck!

I know it's an article of faith with some that 9/10ths of the media and everybody who voted for Obama believes that kind of stuff. I have never personally met anyone who believes it.

But I've also never met anyone who opposed US involvement in a war and "hates the troops." And I've never met anyone who wanted the US to reverse a longstanding policy and "hates America." So maybe that stuff that gets broadcast 24/7 on the radio circuit is just a bunch of garbage.

All the crying about "The One" is outrage in search of a meal.
