Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

Re: Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

Thats what parents are for. When they give a ***** kids thrive whether or not the teacher has a PhD or a degree from the school of hard knocks. A teacher can't be all things to all kids, when that happens the ones who are ready to go get left behind.

The real world called. It said, not every household is stable.

‘Are there no prisons?”

‘Plenty of prisons,’ said the gentleman, laying down the pen again.’And the Union workhouses.’ demanded Scrooge. ‘Are they still in operation?’

‘Both very busy, sir.’

‘Oh. I was afraid, from what you said at first, that something had occurred to stop them in their useful course,’ said Scrooge. ‘I’m very glad to hear it.’

‘Under the impression that they scarcely furnish Christian cheer of mind or body to the multitude,’ returned the gentleman, ‘a few of us are endeavouring to raise a fund to buy the Poor some meat and drink, and means of warmth. We choose this time, because it is a time, of all others, when Want is keenly felt, and Abundance rejoices. What shall I put you down for?’

‘Nothing!’ Scrooge replied.

‘You wish to be anonymous?’

‘I wish to be left alone,’ said Scrooge. ‘Since you ask me what I wish, gentlemen, that is my answer. I don’t make merry myself at Christmas and I can’t afford to make idle people merry. I help to support the establishments I have mentioned-they cost enough; and those who are badly off must go there.’

‘Many can’t go there; and many would rather die.’

‘If they would rather die,’ said Scrooge, ‘they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.”

I don't think that changes anything, when a teacher spends all their time with kids who are troubled, the kids ready to go are left behind. Maybe instead of mainstreaming they should be put in sperate groups with teachers who specialize in childhood issues. I know that would be awful

Re: Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

You mean it's not all the fault of lazy teachers and the evil union?

Good and bad in every profession, most of the teachers I know do their best. A lot of parents certainly don't. Unions suck and I've been a dues paying member so I have a little experience .

And there isn't money to fund special programs like that.

Wally world must be a real fun place.

Re: Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

I think it's exactly the opposite. The Masters isn't about the subject matter but all the issues of dealing with child development. Dealing with young kids (and their more than likely young parents) takes a lot more knowledge than dealing with children and parents who are closer to adulthood. As a foster parent, the amount of training I got (and needed!) for dealing with the problems of 7 year-olds dwarfed that for 16-year olds.

The inefficiency of modern public education reflects trying to serve all the kids. In the "good old days," you just let the dumb ones, the poor ones, the ones with messed up parents and the ones with disabilities fall behind and eventually drop out. The country needed infantry too. For a variety of reasons, mostly good, the efficient solution is no longer acceptable.

And the solution is................................VOUCHERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yet there's money for collective bargaining, yeah, I know its all about the kids

So, removing collective bargaining is all about paying teachers less money? So, that's how we balance the budget, give the middle class less and the upper class more. Got it. Makes sense.

I'd actually be okay with vouchers as long as they were means tested. Which would defeat the whole purpose of Republican support for vouchers, which is to send Dick Cheney's grand niece to Country Day School on the taxpayers' dime.

There is nothing wrong with social programs that converting all entitlements to straight charity wouldn't fix. Cut about 90% of the cost and attack the root problem. All it takes is for people to be grown ups and not demand a piece of the action if they don't need it. But good luck with that.

The discussion was about paying for special programs that Foxton doesn't believe could be funded. If it makes you feel better how about getting rid of the bloated administration I see at the school my kid goes to. Is that better? I know it can't be done, those guys are all about the kids also

Attend a school board meeting and make that very point. That's something you can do something about.

But remember to preface your statement with a quotation from Scripture, because that's the only way you're ever going to get heard at a school board meeting.

(Your mileage may vary, but the Tea Party Taliban are in complete control in my district. Ironically if we wiped out social security they would have to be greeters at WalMart rather than eating government cheese and shouting at clouds all day. Hmm... not a bad trade.)

So, preferably something from Exodus?

They only know Leviticus and Revelation.

Not too big on the Gospels, that's for sure. JC was a wooly-headed librul. Vaguely Mexican looking, now you mention it.

Funnily enough, the only school board I ever attended. A teacher for the special ed program had her pay chopped in about half and she was told to suck it when she complained.

How about Daniel? Some good prophecy in there.

Really? That's kind of a strange situation.

Greet them with Allens Coffee brandy( most of you have no idea what this is) would work better here, bible pounders aren't big around here

Ya it was weird and it's been a few years but I think the reason was that they brought her down to the payscale for special ed teachers even though she had been a "normal" teacher before. Her reassignment had not been voluntary.
