Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

Re: Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

That calls for another round.............of tax cuts for those job creators.

Jesus. Don't give them any ideas. You know somewhere out there is a Milton Friedman thinking "what we really need is a lower top marginal rate. That'll work!"

Re: Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

No, I just find it funny how you mention one and not the other. Both are reasons why elected judiciaries suck.

A rare moment of agreement, grasshopper. You probably already know this, but Joe Jamail's personal cut of the Pennzoil Texaco settlement was 355 million, and that was 20 years ago, when 355 million was a lot of money!

I'll take "Ideas of Paul Ryan" for $400 dollars, Alex.

And that's not good enough. His budget is a joke. And everyone who says his budget is showing leadership and guts is an idiot.

He's at least got an idea on the table to actually substantively deal with issues, even if it isn't perfect in all areas. That puts him well ahead of most of the Beltway.

If his budget were serious, he wouldn't have cut any taxes and he would've taken an axe to the DoD budget. But he did the former and didn't do the latter, so it's nothing but partisan crap.

BS.

He punted on defense and Social Security.

So lets throw out the baby with the bathwater. Why not work towards his budget and try to get those items included in the future. When you've got the second highest corporate tax rate it becomes increasingly difficult to compete around the world. Regardless, corporations don't pay taxes in the end. It winds up coming out of our pockets through the higher price of goods.

BTW - where is the Dem budget that starts paying down the debt? Obama's budget has a nearly $1Trillion deficit per year for the next 10 years.

The thing is, we won't get anywhere if we just throw brickbats. Call his hand and raise. Match every dollar cut of social programs with a dollar cut from The Empire and another dollar raised in taxes. If we just say "no" we're no better than they are.

Re: Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

Better than punting on everything, as your Obama does.

What he's punted on mostly have been his promises to me (Gitmo, civilian trials, ending the wars, holding the Wall Street criminals accountable). I would think you'd be happy about his lay down on most if not all of those.

Despite all the "this is the big one Elizabeth" heart-clutching about communism, he's wound up to the right of Clinton. He's probably to the right of Nixon.

Scooby hasn't reached the point we have where we realize that both sides of the equation need to be dealt with, and we can't wait for the perfect while out-of-hand condemning the less than perfect.

He's done a lot of good liberal stuff, just the press doesn't highlight it when it's not in his interest, so he can seem more mainstream. From bailing on defending DOM, to quietly expanding things in the federal government in a variety of ways for gays, to a variety of other things, he's been pretty good to the liberal end of the spectrum in a number of ways. I can understand your disappointment that he hasn't delivered some other things, but you can't always get everything you want. He's nowhere near Nixon, and a bit more liberal than Clinton from my reading so far.

At the least he's way more responsible than any other Republican has been since Reagan (which is to say, he's been at least a little responsible). If he helps open the way to the public being able to deal with actual belt-tightening, he will have been a net positive.

A lot of his budget is self-serving and the usual electioneering, but at the same time I don't see anything comparable coming from my side. This is the first time we've even had the possibility of anything other than insincere posturing from the GOP, so it's a start.

Oh, BS.

I've said to social security a thousand times on here. You're the partisan not me if you believe that Paul Ryan's budget is anything other than a partisan hatchet job.

Oh God, the press, the press, the press. You're better than that littany of victimization. I'm making my judgments based on the record. Your mileage may vary and your opinion may be different, but save me from the conspiracy theory.

Re: Obama XX: Maybe We'll Even Talk About Obama

Quid pro quo. Show me an instance of a Tea Partier willing to comprimise at all on a budgetary issue, and you might have a point. When they won't play ball, what's in it for anyone else to agree to any cuts when it only further emboldens them to maintain their hardline edge?

Again, The GOP originally proposed a $32 billion cut to this year's budget. The Dems have agreed to $33 billion, and it's still not good enough, because the goal line's shifted. The Tea Party is cheering for the government shutdown because they're that delusional.

I'll give you a budget that cuts ten times Ryan's spending, according to my priorities. Will you work towards my budget and then try to get your items included in the future?

I'm for using the Ryan budget to pivot towards real cuts. The Dems can't just fold, though, no more than the GOP can however much I wish they'd see reason. One thing we have learned over the years is if you give an inch they just smirk and take a mile. I'm sure the other side feels the same way.

The press wasn't the main point, which was that he's done a lot for his liberal base, just not all the things they want done, which is apparently why he's being compared to Richard Nixon.
