Re: Obama XVII: Do You Take Your Tea Party with One Sugar or Two?

hey, if you lived near the Mexican border, like we do here in Arizona, I'm sure the drug cartels would smuggle incandescents across the border to satiate America's thirst for them, just like they bring whatever else they want across the border

They'd simply be supplying the light bulbs Americans aren't willing to supply. For that they would deserve a hearty handshake and a pat on the back. And free health care.

And when you drop one...

And there are the myriad of ijits who just toss them in the trash, which in the town I live goes then into the burner downtown...;)
If I can't throw it in the garbage, don't sell it to me. I throw everything in garbage. Except for drain oil, that helps keep dust down when you spray it on the driveway.

I'm pretty sure that's the idea.

Well, the opposite of the idea.

The new bulbs freaked me out a little but they're much better -- I don't think I've even seen an incandescent in months.

That's how we can control the drug cartels. Make them soft and compliant over time by making them depending on U.S. federal government largesse. :)

I think this lightbulb thing is much ado about nothing. We have them in our house. You can buy ones that are instant on and have the same (or at least ridiculously similar) lighting properties as incandescent. Saves money, lasts longer, and they're relatively cheap now.

That's wonderful.

I'm sure the argument against a ban isn't really about that though. It's more along the lines of why the government should be involved in such a ban, if fluorescent bulbs are so much better, won't incandescent bulbs be phased out on their own?

Also, in reading this, I honestly had no idea you couldn't just throw them away. Oops.

Do you know not to touch halogen bulbs with your fingers? Because anytime I know more "guy stuff" than another man, I worry for them.

I would argue it's pretty darn manly to not worry about a little mercury poisoning. :D

Hey, I won't argue.

What are you supposed to do with the new fangled bulbs if you can't throw them away? Box them up in the garage? Burn them? Bury them? Probably should do just like we do on the farm, dig a hole, fill it with garbage, cover it up.

Just rub some dirt on it, it'll be fine.

And you liked "New Coke," right?

Re: Obama XVII: Do You Take Your Tea Party with One Sugar or Two?

For those who live in northern climes, replacing a bulb thats giving off heat will cause you to spend more money heating your house, so where's the savings? Incandescent bulbs help heat your house whether you realize it or not, COmpact flourescents won't, so spend some more money on whatever you use for heat

I like my coke the traditional way, thank you.

I always knew Barbie was a cheap tramp. There's no AMEX Platnium card to cut the lines ...

And they save you money in the summer as you don't need as much cooling. Admittedly more important in commercial and institutional buildings than in homes, but it's there.

ETA: Stupid multiquote feature saves those quotes forever, it seems...
