Obama headed for the doctor's office located on the ground floor of the White House, where he was sewn up.

The medical staff that treated Obama used a finer filament than usual, allowing for more numerous and tighter stitches and, as a result, a smaller scar. Obama received a local anesthetic while he was being stitched up.

What a wuss! :rolleyes:
If he was a hockey player, they'd have stitched him up right on the bench.

But was it a covered procedure?? The unusual filament was non standard and not covered on his health plan.

Fortunately the president has socialized medicine, so it was all covered.

When are the principled GOP members of Congress who campaigned against the evils of socialism going to give up their socialized medicine?

As soon as all those millionaires who want higher taxes start donating their untaxed money to Uncle Sam.

What about a requirement that you must serve your country (civillian or military) for a set period before being granted the right to vote?

That is a terrible idea. You are basically changing the fundamentals of the U.S. from people being born with rights to people needing to earn their rights. That wasnt the America I was raised to love, that is Israel policy.

Actually I think the idea behind it is that your rights come with responsibilities and duties to your nation and to your neighbours. When people come to believe that their rights trump their responsibilities you have a nation that will soon crumble under the weight of it's own selfishness.

If you are now saying that people aren't born with them but need to fight for their country to have them (hey its Starship Troopers!) then you cant say we are a free nation because not everyone is free.

The great thing about America is that we all have rights, even the selfish, the lazy, the jerks, the racists and the annoying. You start picking and choosing who is the better "citizen" and all of a sudden we aren't really America anymore.

Sorry no amount of chest thumping is going to change my opinion of this.

Like the scene in "Youngblood" where Rob Lowe's been cut and he's speculating about which hospital they're going to take him to. Meanwhile, the trainer has pulled out a pin cushion and is selecting a needle to sew him up. All under sterile conditions, of course.:eek:

Agreed...tying a right to vote to military service is an interesting but terrible idea.

As it should be, an Americans right to vote is tied to its citizenship. True that citizenship has its responsibilities...but those are to pay taxes to help support the needs of the country. Now if its being proposes that military services permanently get you out of paying taxes...there might be a few interested in this option for themselves...but the country wouldn't stay afloat. (I see Kep got this)

Unfortunately a lot of people don't want to tie voting to citizenship, although they'd never say it that straightforwardly. That's why Arizona is getting heat for a simple requirement that you have proof you are who you are at the polling place.

Since we're throwing out ideas; how about tying voting to paying income taxes? If you aren't paying anything in then you are always going to vote yourself other peoples' money.
