The GOP has become the moral police...they need to judge everyone. They've talked about restricting the internet, on video games, in music, in movies and pretty much every other type of content imaginable. The GOP has been angling to stop a womans right to choose abortion...against the wishes of 75% of the population (CBS). Also, the GOP has attempted to use the Constitution, its purpose determined by the founding fathers to protect Americans rights, to limit Americans rights in terms of gay marriage. Prayer in schools (unless its not their prayers), the list goes on and on.
Besides what is it with this 'that's the dumbest post i've ever read' stuff? Its in every thread...I guess it must be the new fad.
In the end, you either agree or you don't.
You know most of us on the right don't want the GOP involved in restricting the internet, on video games, in music, in movies and pretty much every other type of content imaginable. At least not at the federal level. I know there are many conservatives that are pro-life. I won't speak for all of them, but I have no interest in a national law making abortion illegal. I would like to see roe v wade overturned because it is bad law. The issue really should be up to the states. The GOP has become the moral police...they need to judge everyone. 16,000 more IRS agents...in an environment in which efficiency is increasing every day, the government not only can't figure out how to downsize a department that has seen tremendous increases in electronic filing, they need to hire 16,000 more???
16,000???? That is insane. How did they come up with that number? That is over a billion dollars in salary and related. Per year. Before mandated increases in pay. Before capital expense. Before supplies, travel blah, blah, blah.
Complete BS. No other organization in the country would look at this economy, the gains made in technology and the deficit and decide it makes sense to hire 16,000 more IRS agents. Of course, that is 16,000 more votes.
that's 16,000 more agents to ensure you and I and everyone else falls in line

U. of Illinois slaps the face of BO's good radical buddy, the guy who helped start his political career. It's a little late, but richly deserved, IMHO.

pretty soon they'll be riding in along in my car to work to make sure I take the most expeditious path, and maybe even suggest walking to save the planet
How many people do you think Citibank has sending out statements, researching fraud, collecting accounts and receiving payments? Probably less than 10% of what the IRS has, and they do hundreds of millions of units a month.
Fraud research itself... you'd be lucky if its 20 people. The other stuff is just a matter of regular operation.
16,000 more IRS agents.
Funny, the actual poll shows 60% either wanting it illegal or more restricted than what it is now. That's more closely aligned with the GOP stance than the Dem stance. If the Supreme Court hadn't needlessly meddled in it, this wouldn't be an issue right now - it would've been settled by either Congress or state legislatures 30+ years ago.The GOP has been angling to stop a womans right to choose abortion...against the wishes of 75% of the population (CBS).
There is no right to gay marriage contained in there, and there is no right to an abortion, either. Those are things that have to be either allowed or banned by legislatures at the state level, unless Congress wishes to pass a law concerning either of them. At least, this is the way it should go if the courts have the good sense to stay out of it altogether until legislative action has been taken. The sensible thing to do would be to eliminate 'marriage' altogether in the legal sense and simply view people as legal couples (civil unions) or not. If people want a marriage, they can find a religion willing to grant one. Also, the GOP has attempted to use the Constitution, its purpose determined by the founding fathers to protect Americans rights, to limit Americans rights in terms of gay marriage.
Pretty self-explanatory, but here goes: you basically implied conservative beliefs/stances are dictatorial (I think the exact phrase you used was 'contrary to democracy'). That's pretty humorous since allowing legal gun ownership by private citizens is about as anti-tyrannical as it gets. Being against abortion is also hardly anti-civil liberties if you were able to recognize the possibility that people who feel that way are attempting to protect the rights of the fetus which they believe to be a living, albeit unborn, person.Besides what is it with this 'that's the dumbest post i've ever read' stuff?
you think the fraud department at citibank, one of the largest credit card issuers in the world is 20 people? I don't think so.
Right on. Recognizing this point is essential to preventing another 11 pages of pro/anti vitriol. Let's all agree that life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are worth federal protection, while recognizing that we don't agree on what constitutes life. And leave it at that.Being against abortion is also hardly anti-civil liberties if you were able to recognize the possibility that people who feel that way are attempting to protect the rights of the fetus which they believe to be a living, albeit unborn, person.
I suppose it depends on what we define as "research".
