Contract with America II:This time it 's contract-ier?

Jobs:

- Stop job-killing tax hikes

- Allow small businesses to take a tax deduction equal to 20 percent of their income

- Require congressional approval for any new federal regulation that would add to the deficit

- Repeal small business mandates in the new health care law.

Cutting Spending:

- Repeal and Replace health care

- Roll back non-discretionary spending to 2008 levels before TARP and stimulus (will save $100 billion in first year alone)

- Establish strict budget caps to limit federal spending going forward

- Cancel all future TARP payments and reform Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

Reforming Congress:

- Will require that every bill have a citation of constitutional authority

- Give members at least 3 days to read bills before a vote

Defense:

- Provide resources to troops

- Fund missile defense

More dreck from the peanut gallery. If war "caused" the crimes in question, one would expect the percentage of family killings to be higher among those who fought and lower among civilians who have never served. Neither is true.

In the post Vietnam period, a favorite boogie man in films, TV and fiction was the "lone, crazy Vietnam vet" climbing a tower a la Charles Whitman and shooting down innocent people or committing other horrible crimes. And it was his service in Vietnam that "caused" his behavior. Not true then. Not true now.

But that reality will never stop the "anti-war" azzholes, who will smear and slander GI's any chance they get. I believe psychiatrists call it "Kerry Syndrome."

So let me summarize

Cut spending in high return areas for society...raise spending in low return areas for society (ie military)

Cut government revenue and thereby, increase the deficit

and then when in power...dump all that and push through a social conservative agenda.

Nice way to sell a terrible agenda to those who don't know any better.

Dx, there's a difference. Everyone is for efficient govt. But I don't see the cross the board fiscal conservatism I want to see. Also, I don't know how you can cut govt revenues substantially and hope to balance the budget.

In the end, show me that you've given up trying to dictate societal morals...and I'll be much happier.

Tell me where we are cutting government revenues substantially? Are you talking about trying to extend the Bush tax cuts? Sounds more like increasing government revenue if they aren't extended to me...

Tell me why the government deserves the amount of money it is currently getting? Tell me where in the constitution it says that the government can spend whatever it wants as long as it taxes its citizens enough to cover those costs.

First of all, I'm not all the way sold on this "pledge" just yet, so I'm not defending it or rejecting it really. In fact, it's pretty underwhelming in my opinion.

Which high return areas of societies are these? I'm all for cutting the defense budget, but the military is a "low return" area? Not sure I'd go that far.

What possible proof do you have for this claim? You really think they're so stupid as to see every single poll over and over again with the economy as the main issue, and then take power and start after the gays? (Wait, don't answer that;) )

I mean, that would be as silly as taking power with the economy in a mess and spending a year fighting over health care. Oh.

When government decides what is legal and what is not, what is this based on?

majority vote in both houses + signature of president.

Morals got tossed @ the 1930 Lambeth Conference. It's been all downhill since.

I understand WHO decides them, but to 5MM's comments, how are laws crafted? By morals. What one person may think is immoral may be looked at indifferently by another. Drugs is a perfect example.

We seem to be using Afghan special forces (auxiliary) directly controlled by CIA. not much different than Romans using local auxiliary to supplement the legions.

oh, don't think for a second that 5mn still doesn't want morals applied... he wants his morals applied. The left likes republicans because they just might find ways to do their things for cheaper... and that's it. Same thing here... 5mn wants Republicans who will do things like universal healthcare but do it cheaper.

All laws are based on moral dictates.
