Obama XV: Now, with 20% more rage

Re: Obama XV: Now, with 20% more rage

Wait, what?!?

Human life as we know it (crude operationalization: homo sapiens) has been around for how long? Pretty sure it's well under a million years, never mind 400-500 million.

Which begs the question: What sort of life, exactly, was thriving 400 million years ago? I'm no paleobiologist, but I'm pretty sure they weren't mammals. :p

Which begs the question: What's the relevance, again?
The first true mammals appeared in the Late Triassic (ca. 200 million years ago). 200 million years ago the 30 Myr filter shows concentrations of around 2000 ppmv. The royer compilation data shows periods of time where concentrations were at or above 2000 ppmv for most of the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods, its not until the Paleogene and Neogene periods that we see such low levels. That leads me to believe there is an extreme wide range for an acceptable level in the atmosphere. Mammals most certainly did exist during much of the period I mentioned and certain animals have existed over the entire period I mentioned (crocodiles).

Re: Obama XV: Now, with 20% more rage

Hey, this lines up with NASA's number one priority under Obama, to reach out to Islam. Forget about that space stuff.

There were a couple of British comedians years go who used to do a routine about the UN. And one of the lines (I'm paraphrasing) was "May I remind the gentleman from Saudi Arabia that last week the Saudi space program rolled off the truck and broke."

You know, it seems like every day the comparisons between our struggles to come to grips with Islamism and the Cold War become more apparant. And while I admit to being an unreconstructed cold warrior, the similarities at least bear examination.

Foremost for me is that then and now the left was out front, denying there was anything to worry about, downplaying the excesses of our opponants, while simultaneously proclaiming us to be just as bad--worse even, because we have democratic ideals and principles. Moral equivalence was the argument du jour, then and now (see Bloomberg, Mike and Obama, Barack). But as dangerous as it was, the Soviet Union never murdered 3,000 of our citizens and then wanted to build a "Soviet Friendship Commune" as close to the site of the atrocity as they could get.

I wonder what plan they came up with to reduce carbon levels? Must've been something good, or else the world would have ended with those levels.

And they also did it with no border protection at all! :p

I put this here because I think it's more important than "nice planet," and because of the ongoing debate re: Islam in this country. It's SOP these days for people to proclaim themselves "outraged" by the most trivial things. "I'm outraged they didn't offer a vegetarian alternative to the hot dogs." etc. But THIS is outrageous. Who thinks it's appropriate to take middle school kids for a mini worship service, ever? Parental permission? Well, it seems parents weren't fully informed.

The tape is tendentious, certainly. But it's still hard to understand why it would be necessary to go to a mosque to study Islam. The idea of giving the kids a greater understanding is not automatically a bad one, but that can be accomplished in school, and doesn't require Islamic women in full regalia. In school the presentation can at least in theory be fact checked.

It would be rather like in the 30's, wanting the kids to understand what was going on in Germany, to take them to a meeting of the German American Bund and have Fritz Kuhn give 'em a little pep talk.

As we approach my favorite time of the year: the season when Manger Police fan out across the country looking to snuff out any "inappropriate" observations of Christmas, it is interesting to note that at least one ACLU type was on hand for this little indoctrination session. Nice. Oh, but the parents gave permission! Right. How about INFORMED permission?

If it's true that there is some sort of national effort here to "educate" our children about Islam, and it originates in, say Saudi Arabia, participation in it by public schools needs to be stopped, immediately.

Of course many of the same people who've been chastising us for "Islamophobia" for our opposition to putting an Islamist Victory Arch near GZ, will doubtless conclude opposition to these indcotrination sessions is yet another manifestation of our ignorance and intolerance.

Speaking of... do you guys remember the artist that started "everybody draw mohammed day" and then backed out... yeah, I guess the Iranians put a fatwa on her and now she's had to change her name and go into hiding.

Do we have free speech in the US?

Yes, that would be the wingnut pile called the huffington post.

Re: Obama XV: Now, with 20% more rage

To your second question, yes. To the first question you're using unquantifiable factors. Double your stress, family time, etc. Bottom line is from a business standpoint would you do extra work for extra money, even if meant getting a little less back? Yes, unless you're stupid.

Do an expiriment of us pirate. Go out some night and find a couple of bums, and offer them 100 bucks to fight each other. Then when finished, offer the victorious bum another 90 bucks to fight a second one. What do you think he'll do (aside from the option of smashing a bottle over your head and taking all your money I mean)? :D

That might be the worst analogy to business I've ever seen...you demonstrate no knowledge of the decision process involved to expand a business.

And, while you dismiss them as unquantifiable, that doesn't mean those factors don't exist.

They all just held their breath for 100 million years. Duh. Cripes. Do ihave to explain everything to you morans?

Quick... somebody invent gills! If we don't do it now we're all going to suffer!

Re: Obama XV: Now, with 20% more rage

Hey, one could always join the Voluntary Human Extinction Movement (I'm not making that up).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voluntary_Human_Extinction_Movement

Here's a couple gems from the founder:
"...as long as there is one breeding pair of humans, there's too great a threat to the biosphere"
"...voluntary human extinction is unlikely, but it is the moral thing to do."
They all just held their breath for 100 million years. Duh. Cripes. Do ihave to explain everything to you morans?
I bet the dinosaurs had a group called the Voluntary Dinosaur Extinction Movement and one of the members came up with the idea of directing a meteor towards the Earth because they couldn't convince enough of the other dinosaurs to kill themselves ;)

Re: Obama XV: Now, with 20% more rage

you are aware that freedoms in the constitution refer to freedom from oppression and censorship by the government, sarah palin?

I'm sorry, did she have to go into hiding or not? Do we keep it as a principle or not? Is all this talk about defending the speech of others horse **** or not? I know what it says in the constitution... "Congress shall not..." etc.

The point still stands... she had to go into hiding... what's next? Who else is the FBI going to tell that you have to change your first and last names, drop all your friends, find a new job in a new industry, and a new home? Is that a country we're proud of?

edit: The answer appears to be no... we must abide by those who will rise to murder. I thought we got past that in the 1960s.

I was reading about Salmon Rushdie's experience the other day. They put a fatwah on him. "We're going to kill you." He converted to Islam and told them what a wonderful religion it is. They said, "That's nice, we're still going to kill you."

and the funny thing is the opinion makers fault both of them for speaking out of turn...a mercurial social fault made to make to make the social set feel better about themselves. "They deserved it, for speaking out of turn like that..."

The "smart people" know that these people (Islamic extremists) are monsters... and so the "smart" thing to do is not to provoke them... if you provoke them... you're not one of us... you deserve it. As is for Rushdie as is for this woman.

Who says that if you provoke an extremist you deserve their vengence? (its a daily pasttime asking some posters questions like this)

It seems both not very Christian to provoke others in general...or very smart to provoke extremists, whether NRA gun fanatics or Islamist extremists. There is free speech...but in such cases, be aware that there may be resulting danger from which law may not be able to protect you.

So all we need to do is disregard human civilization. And mutate into crocodiles.

I have to hand it to you - it's a good plan. :)
