Obama XIV: President VISTA with SP2

Re: Obama XIV: President VISTA with SP2

Tell me, was Ike really protecting the south's "dewy Scarlett O'Hara way of life" when he sent the 101st Airborne into Little Rock and federalized the Arkansas National Guard to remove them from Governor Orville Faubus' control?

I'm glad I'm not the only one old enough to remember that!:p

Re: Obama XIV: President VISTA with SP2

There is a huge difference between overturning/reinterpreting a law because a specific judge or panel of judges doesn't like what it says and rejecting a law or part of a law because the constitution doesn't allow the federal government to regulate/control something.

That's a nuance many people miss, or ignore.
My comment still stands. Be careful what you wish for.

I can accept the court system preventing the over reach of the federal government even when they pass a law I like. I can handle the fact that things I want changed need to be done by constitutional amendment, not crappy legislation and judicial activism.

Works for me. As with any drug, don't prohibit it, just tax the **** out of it.

Re: Obama XIV: President VISTA with SP2

Essentially a Federal sales tax, with slightly modified parameters, if I'm reading that right.

Seems like an easy way to make money without putting too much stress on the average American.

But, let's be honest here, we have to wait until the Republicans are in power before we dream of something like this happening. It's not that Democrats won't support something like this, but if a law like this went into effect while Obama is still in charge, you KNOW that Republicans are going to label it as "anti business", claim that it will encourage companies to move jobs overseas and lump it in with all the other Obama policies that they're going to try to repeal ASAP when they eventually regain the majority.

If you truly believe that a Federal sales tax is the way to go, lets wait until January 2013*, when it might actually have a chance to stick around.

* For the record, I'm saying without any doubt that Obama is gone after one term. He's been a major disappointment, and the Democrats (if they weren't bat **** crazy) should be starting the primary process right now to at least make Obama earn his D nomination in 2012. But, the Democrats are total p**sies and would never do it.

I've never thought about it in terms of Nixon going to China, but that's a perfect comparison.

Considering that our country is ruled by two political parties each filled with petulant children; It's perfectly reasonable to assume that either party will just oppose anything put in place by their rivals, even if they would normally agree with it.

Well, duh. Who cares if it's good for the country - the important thing is who gets CREDIT for it!

The Dems said that about Bush43 and probably would have won if they hadn't run Moonbat Kerry. If it is Palin vs Obama in 2012, he gets 4 more years.

Say this for the Dems, they do have a way of enforcing party discipline that prevents anyone who does not tote the party line from being considered for National Office. IIRC the last one to break from that was, of all people, Teddy, but then again, he was a Kennedy and the rules do not apply to that family.

All said and done, if the Dems take a beating in November and that includes at the state level, look for the rumblings for Hillary in 2012 to start. The two machines going to war against each other will liven things up. I wonder how the MSM will come down on that race?

Re: Obama XIV: President VISTA with SP2

I don't know. As disappointed as some Dems are in Obama, I think they still generally like him and I think it'll be a real long shot to unseat him unless some major new scandal or calamity happens. After all, as much as Dems moan about what he hasn't done, he helped get them their long-hoped-for health care bill and has quietly done a lot of other stuff to push Dem issues.

Plus, it's just very hard to unseat a sitting President from within their own party.

Re: Obama XIV: President VISTA with SP2

Dems nominate the most viable liberal due to their primary process.
Repubs nominate the next guy in seniority.

works out great for the country.

I'd say both take both those approaches at times. For example, John Kerry was the most viable liberal? Or Bush2 was the next guy in seniority?

Re: Obama XIV: President VISTA with SP2

So long as Republicans keep allowing Iowa to be so far ahead in the rotation, and keep having ridiculous debates on MSNBC, I don't think we'll see a great candidate anytime soon.

Oh, I can't argue with that...Iowa being first is a huge issue being that it means republicans cave to the farm subsidy, green energy (ethanol) loving types down there.

Honest question...which state would be better in your opinion?
