Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

Re: Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

I agree.

Obama would be doing great (or "okay", depending on your worldview) if he ever did what he says he'll do. It's the classic political cliche.

Look at the healthcare bill, for instance. He campaigns on a platform of addressing cost and regulating what insurers can get away with... then signs the most bat-poo crazy bill you've ever seen, one which really doesn't address either of those concerns and probably puts things even more in favor of the insurers at taxpayer expense.

I get that you can make an argument that the legislative Republicans just sat on their chairs and contributed nothing to that bill... but that's no excuse. This is just insane.

I was very excited for Obama two years ago, now I can't wait to get him out. I said it before and I'll say it again: I wish he would've had at least two full terms in the Senate to mature before he bothered with the White House.

The American Republic will endure until the day Congress discovers that it can bribe the public with the public's money.

Thats what insurance is for. If that person is irresponsible and does not have insurance thats what charity is for. The whole idea of gov't providing a "safety net" is actually a new idea (1960s). Before that people banded together to look after each other. Regardless, we need to be willing to tell irresponsible people that they are not able to stick their hands into our pockets. When that happens it'll be amazing how many fewer irresponsible people we'll have out there.

It's not a new idea. What do you think social security used to be (at least in its original incarnation)

I think the fundamental problem is that few kids in the U.S. are interested in going into those fields, even if there's good money to be made there. Those fields are viewed as too hard.

Might it have something to do with the cost of education? I realize I'm simplifying things, but how many legitimate med students want to borrow $200k to pay for a career that might take 10 years before you can see real dividends (all the while working 70 hours per week) assuming they actually land a prosperous oppurtunity?

The problem isn't the cost itself... its that its becoming less profitable to be a medical doctor... one of my undergrad students decided not to go down the medical route because he knew that various liabilities and other issues make it a less attractive road to go down. Between that and President Sunshine who is actively looking to cut the income of medical doctors we are seeing a diminished reason to enter the field.

In short... the 200K isn't the problem in itself... the problem is the ability to repay the 200K and the policies in place that have hindered that.

Don't they get substantial loan forgiveness for practicing in underserved areas?

I said essentially the same thing aside from the sophomoric blaming of a president that's had less virtually zero influence on the problems of an industry that began at least a decade before he even took office. But hey, good on you.

With reported unemployment just under 10%, you gotta love an administration that wants to train foreign workers, with taxpayer dollars.

Since when did Obama invent US foriegn aid? Maybe he should be blamed for not shutting down all US foriegn aid in the year and a half since he's been in office.

In fact, do you know which country receives more foriegn aid than all other countries...combined? That would be Iraq. Is that on Obama also?

Spin away...

so you're OK with this spending but not the spending to enforce the border?

Point is we don't need to be funding off-shore jobs... we get no benefit for it. Don't defend this stuff.

edit: I know you're doing a hell of a job constructing a Chomskian hypocrisy defense... sure would be nice to give it up because its still intellectually bankrupt even if you are Noam Chomsky.

Never said that. I have no problems with cutting foriegn aid in half or more...much of the world is doing fine and the rest of its growing fast.

I was taking on ScottM putting the concept of US foriegn aid on Obama...and a handful of posters chiming in agreement.

Don't get your panties in a wad, Sarah. Did you actually read the post, or the link? Perhaps you dropped your tofu and brie wrap into your Caribou decaf latte when you imagined someone may be taking your savior's administration to task for its policies. The USAID head is an Obama appointee, and I'm fully cognizant of the uses of "foreign aid", military and otherwise. So try to stay on task for once.

Moreover, I don't really see you defending the proposition that US tax dollars should be used to train people for jobs overseas. So step up and do it ...

Thanks Mr. President... i didn't really want to buy a home in the near future anyhow.

Christ.

The comedy of errors continues.

It's as if Obama's sole purpose is to absolutely fulfill every negative cliche about liberals that you've ever heard come from Glenn Beck's mouth. He's become so off base that he's fulfilling the beliefs of the insane.

Well, see, here's the thing. Glenn Beck has been saying things about Obama that are actually true... nobody wants to believe him though.

And this is only 1/3 of Obamacare

For good reason. Interspersing truth into his unhinged rants doesn't do a lot to change who he is. He's closer to a radio shock jock than he is to being an honest intellectual pundit. (Of course, just try to name someone on cable who isn't these days...)
