Re: Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

Kerry simply falls into line, which anyone with a brain would do. win-win-win.
From the article - statement released by Kerry's handlers: "The boat was designed by and purchased from a company in Rhode Island, and it's based in Newport at the Newport Shipyard for long term maintenance, upkeep and charter purposes, not tax reasons."

Too ****ing funny. A senator who has no problem with his party playing the class warfare card with the "rich need to pay their fair share of taxes" line is doing his part to dodge taxes aimed at that group - and is of course denying that his boat's location has anything to do with the $500k tax he'd owe in Mass or the $70k annual excise tax.

Is it too much to ask of a politician to have him/her live up to the ideals that s/he advocates? If you're going to claim a group of people need to pay their fair share of taxes, then you *'ing better be doing that yourself. Then again, leading by example is apparently a lost art these days.

Re: Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

But he's just doing what everyone who's been arguing with 5mnMajor says is perfectly ok, and have no problem with: taking advantage of every legal loophole and practice they can find to minimize their tax burden.

As long as it's legal, you guys don't seem to have a problerm with the rich avoiding taxes. So why here, just cause he's a Democrat, and a lot of Dems think the rich should pay more?

Then change the laws, make it illegal, close the loopholes. Issue over.

Re: Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

The Repubs are going to implode before November, I don't see them getting either house

I think you may be right, Walrus. I see so many great opportunities for the RNC to stick it to the Dems, yet the RNC cannot seem to get out of its own way. I am hopeful that the nation, like Massachusetts, truly has had enough and votes out the Liberal Dems with R-candidates; however, I still have my reservations that the RNC will put together a good plan to counter the Obama, et al.

The power of the vote... we really get what we deserve.

awful story breaking (if its true) - since the Scots were going to release him anyway, the Obama administration asked that the Lockerbie bomber be allowed to go free rather than put into a Libyan prison.

The real issue here is that the Libyans claimed he was dying- only had a few months left- now a year later and he's still healthy.

Re: Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

Wait - the newspaper has what it claims is really, really d*mning correspondence, but refuses to make any specific references to it. Instead they offer some generalizations about the consequences of their unsubstantiated interpretation of that correspondence?

What's that all about? Ahhh, never mind. It's one of Murdoch's rags. :D

Wake me up when the media covers it. :p

Re: Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

I wont believe it until it is in the National Enquirer...I mean they broke the John Edwards story so they got their ear to the grindstone!

Re: Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

It'll be a hell of a story if it's true. But something doesn't smell right. No way am I going to be that vague if I've got the goods on a sure-fire explosive story. And if I am that vague, it's almost certainly because I really don't have the goods.

I'm not saying to ignore it completely...but I think the smart money is on waiting for corroboration.

Re: Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

Well, I've been caught twice this week with false reports/hoaxes/etc. so...

IF THIS IS TRUE, he deserves all the backlash he has coming. I can just imagine Fox news is already foaming at the mouth... Although, after getting burned on the shirley sherrod (sp?) deal, perhaps they're going to sit on this. Who knows...

Re: Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

Still on this?

Saving, yes. Cheating, no.

You're the only one who seems to think that "the rich" should voluntarily forgo all the legal deductions that they are allowed to take.

Really? Show me where I said anything like that.

Re: Obama XIII: It's all Bush's fault.

So you think they should be allowed exemptions and partaking is acceptable such that they don't automatically pay the maximum amount?

Go read my posts. My point all along has been that the affluent save plenty on taxes (Kerry is one example)...and that there was alot of complaining about about how much they pay. But gave no opinion on whether it was the right thing or not... and did say early on that the tax burden is pretty close to appropriate. I still believe all of these things and the whole thing got rolling when someone disagreed with my point...but failed to substantiate their position.

I've come to learn there are several levels of awareness. One where politics shades their opinions. Another that once a point is made, folks disagree and then proceed to make a different point. And the last where some think you said something entirely different that what you did say.
