Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

Rules?? In a knife fight?! No rules!

Shouldn't you have simply posted a completely irrelevant picture instead of posting a completely irrelevant and non-funny response?

Is it telling that you've posted in practically every thread on the main page with the major exception of "Diet and Exercise?"

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

Looks like some good ideas to me. Glad I was told to look them over. Too bad no one will ever look at them till there's a crisis.
Neither party will commit to action on the gigantic entitlement spending problem until the programs are literally going broke (rather than merely being projected to do that at some future date). Anybody sticking their neck out to deal with the problem now will simply be demonized by the other side and likely be voted out by the powerful AARP lobby.

As for the specific proposal, it's a non-starter. The Democrats have already said in the past (when Bush floated his SS reform idea) that they would not support any form of privatization. I don't see them being particularly excited about the lower starting benefit or altered indexing formula, either. They would very likely take the stance that it's a draconian cut and people retiring on such a system would be forced to eat dog food.

You and Paul Ryan think alike. Its shame people can't see or apparently understand whats happening here

Have never understood the "they'll have to eat dog food" argument. A can of Alpo costs about $2. A bag of ramen noodles, for example, costs about $1, even less when bought in bulk.

I understand it's a ridiculous appeal to emotions, but it's completely nonsensical when there are so obviously plenty of cheap, actually edible alternatives. I'm not saying that living on ramen noodles is necessarily a good thing or a good idea, but if someone were really that hard up, they wouldn't have to resort to eating dog food.

(and I know you're not saying it, Bakunin)

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

It's clear to everyone by now that Bush and Obama both screwed up big time with all the "stimulus" spending. But this is interesting as a simplified look at the short-term effects.

edit: clear to everyone but the New York Times and their insane economics columnist who somehow keeps his job in spite of being wrong every single time he submits a column, and who says the problem now is that we're not in debt deeply enough.

I saw him at a conference... he needs to lose some weight.

boy, inflation is totally out of control! When i was a college student about 10 years ago you could get something like 5 packages of ramen for $1. My roommate lived off that stuff and frozen pizza for about a year. Two packages of Ramen for lunch, a frozen pizza for dinner.

I think you'd get more nutritional value from dog food though...

Probably...I'd think there'd be much less sodium in the dog food.

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

Maybe
But its a good proposal and its something the Repubs have lacked lately. Ryan hates the party of "no" crap and puts something on the table worth looking at. Scooby should be all over it:D

Some good ideas, some not as well thought out, but all in all more than we're used to seeing out of the GOP. Problem is, I doubt his own party will even put it on the table.

What I'm curious about is how many people have to opt into using their money to invest in govt approved funds in order to meet the savings he envisions? For example, while saying people younger than 55 have this option, I'm curious how many people nearing this age would actually participate, especially given the current state of the market. These people make up the bulk of the drain on social security, so it seems like he's taking care of baby boomers (the highest % of voters) while giving the risks to the next generations.

The ideas about gradually raising the retirement age are good and should be implemented. What I always fall back on though is means testing the benefits.

Ya...New York Times is never under any scrutiny and has little reputation to speak of.

"hotair.com" on the otherhand...

LOL. I'd never seen the site so I did some link following and browsed their headlines. 90% of their content exactly duplicates Republican talking points. :p They seem to be a sort of Kos for the talk radio / Freep crowd. Meghan McCain? Really?

I know, it's a great site. A better Drudge Report. but look at the plot of car sales before, during and after cash for clunkers. Was it worth spending $2400 per car of taxpayer funds? The only thing it accomplished other than increasing our debt was to drive up the price of old used cars to further punish the poor.
Now apply that question to the mother of all stimulus packages that went to putting up "recovery and relief" billboards next to holes in the roads all over the country last summer as a way to exponentially drive up our collective debt.

Throw the bums out.

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

Watch out everybody, it's ass kicking time.

Stealing from the GWB playbook now are we?;)

Worth a look.

http://www.boston.com/business/articles/2010/06/08/gm_to_keep_900_more_dealerships_than_planned/

By my calculations, that's 900 extra dealerships at an avg of 50 employees per dealership = 45,000 jobs saved. Not bad at all. I'd be throwing the bums out who voted against this.

Admittedly, that was stupid. Obama's a professor, not a pugilist. Him saying that conjured images of Dukakis in the tank.

    This is the Outrage of the Week!

I'm sure the Echo Chamber will get right on it.

I just caught some Glenn Beck live for the first time in about 2 years, and what I'm sure is obvious to most people finally occurred to me: he is a certifiable case of projection. He's obsessed about "fascism" because he's a genuine fascist. His style, mannerisms, and message are purely authoritarian. He dresses up in democratic clothing in the same way that totalitarian states are inevitably led by the "People's Freedom Party" or some such.

Well, either that or he's a stand-up comedian with the sweetest gig ever.
