Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

The other funny thing is no one makes Rush apologize when he lies and calls people things that aren't true.

Yesterday on the radio he was calling Elena Kagan a Communist. Where's the formal apology for that?

Hardball has a standing invitation to any Republican to come on and speak against Rush. No one will.

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

Anybody else notice that, despite the billions in stimulus spending, April '10 tax receipts were not only down, but in a month that usually sees a budget surplus we actually had a record monthly budget deficit?

I'm questioning the recovery that we're supposedly in the midst of.

Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

I'm not surprised. What would be surprising about that in a jobless recovery? I didn't vote for him.

Let me repeat: Record. Monthly. Budget. Deficit. In the month in which 95% of Americans pay their income taxes.

Jobless recovery or not (I vote not), that's a glaring indicator that things aren't improving nearly as much as advertised. That's going to blow a gaping hole in the deficit forecasts for the remainder of the year.

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

I'll let this go after this post, but here's my take.

Remember when Bush referred to a reporter as a "major league a-hole?" It was before he was elected, but he was running for the office and he was rightly chastised for it.

Are you trying to say that the Office of the President doesn't need to have respect for anyone?

Not at all. The situation you mention is different. That happened at a press appearance, right? Those occasions do call for a minimal level of decorum. The only, and I mean the ONLY thing wrong with Bush's comment about that reporter was that it was heard beyond its intended audience. There's nothing wrong with him saying things like that to Cheney. I'm no Bush apologist, but I don't want a President who's so lacking in substance or backbone that s/he can't voice strong opinions now and then. That doesn't mean you can swear at the grade-schoolers visiting the White House for wasting your time. The office of the Presidency does require public respect.

But based on what little I know of the case, Obama's (or Rahm's) comment to Limbaugh was appropriately backchanneled. It wasn't made at a press conference. So I'm fine with it. The President and staff have to cut through a lot of crap on a daily basis. If they can do so while always living up to standards of manners and decorum fit for the Queen of England, great. But it's unrealistic for us to expect it.

You're the one surprised not me.

Oh come on now, Rush Limbaugh is a comedian like Jon Stewart just different sides of the aisle.

On behalf of Rush Limbaugh, here's your Jon Stewart trademark apology, "Go _ _ _ _ yourself!" :D

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

No, because you're still obfuscating the point.

And he wasn't the one that made the claim. Strike two.

I saw the video of him bringing this up and making it appear to be a federal case...if your issue with my take on this is whether is was Betty Sue that said that Billy was going to take Amber to the prom or if it was really Danny that overheard that in the lunch line and then repeated it at the party at Steve's house then I will admit that I might not have fully comprehended the geneology of the supposed comments...

of course I wasn't the guy saying our president had somehow diminished the stature of the office by making the comment that now some are throwing back at me as cleary not being made by the president...

i got in this mess, and boy do I wish I hadn't, because of all of the crocodile tears being shed over poor Rushy getting a wedgie from Barry or one of his posse as if it was proven that the P himself had sent that message written in his own blood on oval office notepaper...my point is still that nobody really knows who said what but Rush has blown this up for only one reason, to benefit his pocketbook (yes, I do think he carries one):p

ps....Susie really likes you and wants you to meet her after school at the malt shop, just don't tell Marybeth, because ....;)

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

This smacks of the "when did you stop beating your wife" scenario...does anybody know if the President actually said that, does anybody know that anyone actually said that (other than Rush providing the 3rd party summary that just so happens to put him out in the public eye even further and increase his listeners).

This seems like a B list starlet linking herself to Brad Pitt to get in the rags.

Even if it did happen, the last guy in the world that should boo-hoo because somebody was insensitive to him is Rush...he makes his entire living in that genre...granted he spends a lot of it on Big Macs and Vicodin but what he has left he owes to making these same kind of comments.

He is more like the guy who just traveled Europe with the male escort massuese on behalf of the anti-gay establishment - so hypocritical it is humorous.

I agree. It was pretty pathetic when the National Inquirer printed that story about Red Cloud claiming he got it on with Brad Pitt. Clearly just a shameless display for attention. :D

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

Rush isn't going to apologize for his remarks any more than Keith Olbermann will apologize for his. Nor should they.

This is news? Really? "Rush Limbaugh can play with himself" is a story. I'll be dam*ed.

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

Too funny. Jon Stewart rips on both sides. Rush rips Liberals and suckles Conservatives.

Big difference.

I dunno Scooby, from my armchair....Stewart may take a shadow punch at a liberal once in a while for a legitimate laugh but he definitely sits in one dugout when it comes to ripping into people.

Which by no means puts him on Rush's level...nobody else's elevator goes down that far.

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

This is too hilarious, yet entirely predictable considering the crotch-sniffers around here. The focus is on the private citizen when the President or a member of his staff is alleged to have acted in a juvenile manner unbecoming the office when addressing said private citizen. T. F. F.

For me, Stewart rips on Republican's ideas, and what they stand for. He rips on Democrats and liberals for not standing up for what they supposedly stand for.

Which is his prerogative of course, but still I don't think it's quite the same thing.

Re: Obama XII: The shine is off the glass slipper

exactly right, there is an allegation (of juvenile behavior - oh, the horror), made into a tempest by a known publicity hound with the ethics of a boomtown hustler and some are saying that instead of trying to stick it to the president on the possibility that he or his staff actually said it, maybe we should turn our eye on the aforementioned person who just so happens to profit from spinning hearsay into conjecture into rumors into accusations...makes perfect sense to me.

WWM - good point, that is a better way to describe Stewart's method

You're still... not getting this, are you? Go back and read the initial story.

And by all means, keep the focus on Limbaugh. Please. It's causing me nothing but gut-busting laughter. There are three or four figures out there on the right that the mere mention of drives moonbats into a complete tizzy and it's hilarious to watch.
