Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

Re: Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

No, darn it, I just checked. We do have to pay taxes. In fact, we pay back home and here. I was really hoping there.

Depending on where you live, the US may have a tax treaty with that jurisdiction. If you've paid taxes abroad on your income, you may be entitled to a credit or other offset on your US tax liability, or vice versa. This is an issue you would want to discuss with a qualified tax pro, and not someone working at H&R Block, since expat taxation is a very thick subject, and your mileage may vary.

Fortunately, taxes paid overseas are exempted along with an additional $80,000 in earnings. So if you're still paying any federal taxes, you're doing pretty well.

Re: Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

You do realize that Rasmussen was the closest polling firm to the actual results on Election Day last year, right?

Feel free to continue ignoring that though. If it's one thing you're good at, it's ignoring reality.

Actually he was not. That's his own spin but do some research and you'll find one closer and one tied with him I believe.

Regarding why he would put out a poll like this, its to generate headlines. Since 42% of the country doesn't even know who Ron Paul is, how would you get that high of a % of people choosing him for President? Simple - if you only included in your sample people who have heard of him. If you've heard of Ron Paul, its most likely because you or someone you're close to are already a supporter, hence his skewered poll results.

Either that or I've been wrong about Razzie and in fact instead of being a GOP stooge he's actually a double agent who's just been building up his cred with the brain cell challenged crowd that makes up the GOP base. :D Either way, I'll say again I am fully supportive of Ron Paul being the GOP nominee for President in 2012. That's even better than Palin. :p :)

N-word-gate continues. The liberals are saying that all conservatives are obviously racist bigots, based on the fact that certain portions of their lives, during which they might have been thinking about voicing a racist slur, don't appear on broadcast video. Conservatives are saying, "wait, what?"

In fairness, its probably only 90% of conservatives, not 100%.:D (just kidding, knucks'. No need for your heads to explode)

The homophobic slurs towards Barney Frank are on tape. Several people, black and white (Heath Shuler for instance) heard the racial stuff, and given the makeup of the usual teaparty crowd its not too surprising if several of them busted out the N word to Rep Lewis. Excusing or denying the bad behavior is essentually a tacit endorsement of it. Interesting friends some people choose to side themselves with.

We do get an offset here (Hong Kong). In the end we're paying more total taxes than if we'd stayed in Minnesota. My wife and I joke that the only service we get for all our money is citizenship. (Which is nothing to sneeze at.)

I usually don't post in this thread; it seems like most people think they're in an insult contest. I waded in with my mock-innocent comments because it looked like a previous poster was claiming that expats don't have to pay taxes. It was nice, though, to have you guys come in with some actual tips. :)

I don't doubt the Bawney slurs. But you missed the part of the story where Shuler now admits that he never heard the n-word, but was assuming that if they're conservative, it's a safe bet that they might have been thinking it.

Re: Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

from the party who gave us slavery, Jim Crow, Woodrow Wilson, the dixiecrats and the welfare plantation.
Wat? The rest is pretty funny too because obviously political parties keep their initial ideology forever, but are you honestly blaming the democratic party that hadn't even been formed, for slavery?

Re: Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

ok ok so they didn't "give" us slavery, but they defended it to the death.

Don't forget which side was the only one voting against the Civil Rights Act of 1964. ;)

That's forgivable though, since it was LBJ who said upon signing it "I'll have those (n-word) voting for us for 100 years." Never knew LBJ was a teabagger.

Re: Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

I also liked when McConnell said he thought Obama didn't have much of a negro dialect.

Re: Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

No, no, no. See, I thought it was Harry, then I realized only Republicans and Tea Partiers could say racist things, so I realized it had to be Mitch.

Oh that's right. My bad, you had to have been right then. Duh. I feel foolish, which is a rarity.

Re: Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

I'd venture to say one glaring difference between Republicans and Democrats is that Repubs want everyone to have the same rights as laid out in the Constitution, while Democrats want more rights for certain classes of people. Affirmative Action and Title IX back in the 70's laid the groundwork for the perceptions of each party as they stand today.
