Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

Re: Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

I keep trying to think of one positive thing that happened in Washington while he was in office. I can't come up with it.

As for blame, I don't think I really blame him. He did exactly what Dick Cheney told him to do for the most part. And with Dick it's not really blame, it's in his DNA.

To be clear, I think Bush was an incredibly mediocre president. I don't buy into this "worst president evar!!" line of reasoning though, especially since we're what, only 2 years removed by now? And don't get me wrong, he certainly deserves a decent share of blame for some things that happened from 2001-2009.

However, you absolutely cannot convince me that there is not a double standard in the way both presidencies have been covered.

Re: Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

Hey, smart guy......you'd invest in CDs via an IRA for the tax benefits. Obviously, you fall into the uneducated group of Americans I was speaking of.

Do the math. $2k/year, 4% average annual return, 35 years. Retire at age 57 (after getting a college degree) with a nice chuck of change.....such that you could live off of the interest at 3-4%.

Stooge.

You've already been put in your place, but I can't resist piling on.

What an idiot. :D Lets put aside your own admitted problems with math. What kind of idiot invests all his money in CD's through an IRA all his life in order to beat taxes? The returns you give up by not investing in the market as part of a diversified portfolio over a lifetime far outweight any marginal tax benefits.

Look, most of us think you're stupid. You don't have to go out of your way to prove that we're correct. :D Keep digging yourself deeper though....

In all seriousness, no I don't think there's a difference.

When Bush was popular, lapdog press went along for the ride. Do you truly believe the press asked the tough question leading up to and even after the Iraq war??? Similarly, Obama got good press for about 6 months after his term began.

Bush got bad press when the country turned on him, and what might be clouding your perception is that the country turned on him not too long after his re-election, so he had an extended period of punching bag status. They'd easily do the same thing to Obama.

See, the press isn't some all powerful and genius entity that can make or break a President's term. In reality they are unprofessional simpletons who follow the pack. For any bias in "old school" media that one may detect, its equally offset and then some by a more effective and louder right wing media.

Regarding Bush, the lack of progress during his admin ranks him amongst the worst Presidents in history. Was he a worse President than Nixon? Well, as he didn't bring our system of govt to a Constitutional crisis I'd say no. He really was the GOP's answer to Carter though - a guy with few accomplishments and a lot of problems left over for his successor to deal with. When you consider the state of the country that he inherited, that doesn't speak real well for his historical ranking.

Re: Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

I think you are doing more than your fair share.

No, I've got a long, long way to go before I catch up to the likes of Priceless and Rover. But thanks for the vote of confidence, it's always good to hear from the BS artists.

Launching a war of choice puts him in a pretty exclusive league. Having that war turn into the disaster that was completely foreseeable and warned about ahead of time is what makes him one singular sensation.

In a quiet era, Bush would have been one of those empty-headed machine politicians of the late 19th century with smart guys behind him pulling the strings and lining their pockets. That was the plan. We all had the misfortune to have had him during an important period of history, which his incompetence and lack of self-awareness turned into a tragedy.

Now see, there you go again selling yourself short. You might not be in the same class as Rover, but you certainly are giving Priceless a run for his money. And with some practice...who knows were you might be. I am sure you haven't reached your ceiling yet.

I'm not even in the same weight class as Priceless, literally and figuratively.

Re: Obama XI: Turn And Face The Strange

And Red Cloud isn't nearly as good looking or successful as me, so that comparison doesn't hold either. :)

History will determine where he ultimately ranks. That being said in my lifetime he's the worst. I can come up with positive things to say about Carter, Reagan, Bush I, and Clinton. I've got nothing good to say about GW.

I was too young for Ford and Nixon.

It's not so much that there's nothing positive to say about Bush. I really can't come up with anything positive to say about the Carter Administration either. It's the sheer magnitude of the evil let loose upon the world in America's name by Bush that's mind-boggling. It's as if the terrorists dreamed up the perfect foil to prove all their conspiracy theories about the US.

I get electing him -- the voters need a vacation from the responsibilities of adulthood sometimes. But re-electing him? That was unpardonable. Ten years after the assassination of JFK something like 80% of people who voted in the 1960 election "remembered" voting for him. I wonder if anyone will remember voting for Dubya in ten years?

Yeah, because John Kerry was clearly the 2nd coming of FDR or JFK ... Seriously, you have to blame the Dems for that one at least a little bit. It's like they wanted to throw it.

Name one. ;) I'll give you the Camp David Accords.

On the other side of the coin:

Iran hostages
Russia invades A-stan
Gas rationing
Stagflation
Misery Index
Malaise Speech
21.5% prime interest rate
Mariel boatlift

...just to name a few. :(

Like I said, I could name ONE.

Someone needs to find one for me for GW.

EDIT: Came up with number two. It only lasted (4) years. ;)

This is why you don't debate with Kepler, people. Don't ever start out by agreeing that 2 + 2 = 5.
