Nice attempt to CYA, but no it wasn't what you were implying. Why would you invest in CD's through an IRA when you can just invest in them yourself, or better yet your brilliant idea to put money in a savings account through your IRA. Yes, both CD's and savings accounts have no risk, but they also don't exactly give you the returns you need for a decent retirement. You also seem to be completely dismissing the concept of "fees" in all of your Ivy League level analysis.
It is when your IRA funds are deposited into CDs or an interest-bearing savings account at an FDIC-insured bank. Which is what I was implying, obviously.
