But remember that most 85 yos have been paying taxes for a lifetime...and some might argue, have already paid for that transplant.

I am not a senior. Just sayin this is not an easy issue.

maybe if we had drilled baby drilled years and years ago - closer to shore where its not so deep and dangerous - or - even - dare I say it? in Alaska!! we wouldn't be in this mess.

Maybe if the feds were busier helping contain the spill rather than pointing fingers and plotting class-action lawsuits.

But I guess that is what this administration is best at.....crying foul, filing lawsuits and blaming big business.

And BTW, the real tragedy here is the deaths of the men on that oil platform, Scoob. The environment will recover. Those men and their families will not.

Won't they just take over the oil industry now? Seems like a logical step...Citizens, something has gone wrong, the government is the only solution, we will take it over, everyone will benefit, trust us, go back to watching DWTS.
Unless Erin Andrews breaks her leg on a difficult move, then the government will have to take over DWTS too.

I'm sure this is how all nearly all Americans see this...big oil has yet another environmental disaster and they blame the government.

hasn't this rumor been bouncing around for awhile?

edit: I don't think that this will have the same effect as Edwards if it comes to be true... Edwards was more or less exposed as a fraudulent individual by the Hunter situation. He was creating a "I love my wife" imagine while banging Hunter.

Obama on the other hand is 1) the president who represents an ideology and thus needs to be protected at all costs... and 2) never made special claims to being honest and upright for himself... now, he did claim his presidency would be open, honest, and upright... but he never did it of himself. Lets note that this presidency has been anything other than open, honest, and upright.

They lowered taxes in their prime earning years, and refuse to cut their benefits now that they're retiring even though there's no money to pay for it because they cut taxes previously.

But yeah, they had no responsibility whatsoever.

See above. Obviously a current 85 year old is not a boomer, but the upcoming 85 year olds paid less into taxes than they should have. I'm not real fond of the idea of "bailing out" the Selfish Generation at this point when my generation's struggling with everything else they've left us.

BP has a terrible safety record. Texas City comes to mind. WHen I heard an oil rig blew up, the first thought was BP. Imagine my surprise when I found out it was BP...

there's a gulf (no pun intended) between drilling being a good thing and an oil spill being a good thing. With oil you always have that risk... and I'm sure some companies are more susceptible to it by being lax... but other countries don't go out and say "**** this" when it comes to oil.

The biggest issue we have right now is our faith in alternative energies. Since we believe they will work its taking this situation and say "dammit, we shouldn't drill there"... any other country would say "how much per barrel is that oil?"

They should have nationalized oil companies years ago and this never would have happened

It would be funny if the Obama affair story was true, but I don't think it will have any impact on his presidency either way.

Or, they'll cheer Obama everywhere he appears chanting DRILL BABY DRILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd be shocked to find a president that was 100% faithful. The public just acts like it's never been done before.
