Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

Re: Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

Can I just say I love it when people neg rep me and call me liberal, left wing, or, even better, "ultra left-wing." Proof that I must be doing something right, if the Internet trolls try to pull that card on me.

Seriously, people, one can be fiscally conservative and still believe that the government is necessary for certain things. A conservative believes in limited government, not "no government at all."

Did they at least sign the Neg Rep? At least with the Extra feature we can still see who reps us, and some of the liters don't know that.

Calling you "ultra-left wing" probably indicates the presence of the John Birch Society on this site ... maybe a few "conspiracy theorists" too. ;)

Re: Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

Nope, and I won't reveal it here even though I can see it thanks to Extra. Like I said, it amuses me more than anything.

Re: Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

The politics of all this is the reason why, despite agreeing with many of its tenets, Republicans are uniformly opposed to any actions that extend insurance to the uninsured. Notice how their own proposals do nothing along these lines.

The reason for this is simple. Once health insurance is offered to these 30M+ people, it becomes impossible to take it away. Say this passes and then the GOP makes sweeping gains in the next election. They're going to be under tremendous pressure to repeal the bill by the Tea baggers, etc who turned out in droves for them. The problem is, on that issue they won't be able to deliver. Voting to kick 30M people off of the insurance rolls, and giving back insurance companies the right to deny coverage for pre-existing conditions is a one way ticket back to electoral doom, and then the activists on the other side, complete with heart wrenching tales of woe from Americans who will now lose their insurance, will come out in droves to defeat all the newly elected Republicans voting in this manner.

So, the best possible outcome for the GOP is no bill at all. Otherwise, the far right will demand a repeal, but the middle will not. Tough to win if half your base is PO'd at you, even if they have an unrealistic expectation of what you can deliver.

Re: Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

I just saw a clip where the Republicans said "clean sheet of paper" 47 times today. That doesn't sound like a good discussion to me.

You are right, that does not sound very good!

But hey, look on the bright side... the Dem controlled house passed another extension on the Patriot Act yesterday. Where's the outrage from the left? Where's Code Pink? Where's the ACLU?!!? :D

Re: Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

So since over 75% support a public option, how come we're not getting one?

I mean, by your logic and all about what polls mean.

Cause the old lady in Mississippi on Medicare is part of the 25% and that 25% is in the "NO WAY NO HOW" column.

Re: Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

yeah! who cares about education, transportation, or healthcare!! borrow the money from china and don't tax me!!

We have all those things. You got an education, didn't ya?, You got healthcare, don't ya and you own at least one car and drive on public roads, correct?. Gridlock won't change those things, it just keeps these idiots in congress who could care less about you or me from passing more laws. One other suggestion, stop spending money and we won't have to borrow.

Education, health care and roads are free? Awesome!

Don't forget that Glen Beck has reminded us how Libraries are free. He learned all this cool stuff he spouts on TV and the radio at the library.

I'm shocked you listen to Glenn Beck, little to the right of you isn't he?

He's a little to the right of a lot of things.

Even still, I'll confess that I've caught bits and pieces of his TV show on occassion. He's starting to become very critical of both parties- acknowledging that the Republicans will never stop spending, either- which is a very refreshing change of pace from the "OLIGARCH" stuff I saw from his show last year.

Re: Obama 9 -- Its Been a Whole Year Now

Yah, right. The poll was sponsored by MoveOn.org. And talk about leading questions. I thought you'd come up with something like that. What a joke of a poll.

Is the Wall Street Journal good for you?

You probably find a problem with the ABC/WaPo poll.

The CBS/New York Times poll was obviously skewed to say
A clear majority of Americans -- 72 percent -- support a government-sponsored health care plan to compete with private insurers, a new CBS News/New York Times poll finds. Most also think the government would do a better job than private industry at keeping down costs and believe that the government should guarantee health care for all Americans.

So was this.

They're all skewed, unless they agree with you. :)

Come on, surely you can come up with something that's more up-to-date than last Summer and early Fall when not as much of the "change you can believe in" had worn off. There is even some of the same leading question garbage in the first linked poll. Maybe Obama himself wrote some of the questions. ;)

Umm, they used sampling and questions exactly the same as the WSJ did.

Of course, the WSJ is a joke too, right?

Rasmussen at 57% was in December. Guess we know what, or who, the joke is.

And some of the key questions are leading in both. That doesn't mean the WSJ as a whole is a joke.

Since you brought up Rasmussen, this article from this week indicates most Americans oppose the current plan and they also think Congress should start over developing a new plan.

If you think 75% of Americans support the Public Option, all I'm asking is that you provide something to support that statement that is more up-to-date than last Summer/Fall.

No, you're not. As soon as anyone posts a link proving you wrong, you immediately change the conditions. Have fun playing your little game.
