Obama 7 - now what?

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

Looks like I'll just have to bear the burden of your scorn Bob. I wonder how I'll be able to go on....

Disinterest is probably the better word. But, often in life, disinterest is more difficult to bear than scorn.

Then stop replying to my posts. :D If you were truly disinterested, I wouldn't be hearing from you, now would I? :p

Geezer, I never pass up an opportunity to take a dig at you guys. ;)

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

The only thing more aggravating than our president jetting off for speeches in Europe when we have pressing issues at home to work on, is when he doesn't.:p

Yep. Dammed if you do and dammed if you don't.

Besides resigning, or letting the Repubs run government, what can Obama do that would make you happy?

Only said something because you commented about me by name in your previous post. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Obama going to Germany or not matters little to me. But that doesn't mean I can't see the inconsistency of having time to go lobby for a sports event, but not having time for the 20th anniversary of one of the most momentous events in the 20th century.

To make me happy, he'd just have to take the unheard-of step of remembering his campaign promises; most importantly, "I'll go through the federal budget line-by-line, eliminating programs we don't need and making sure the ones we do need work better and cost less", rather than doing the exact opposite (he's adding more programs we don't need, and making sure the ones we have cost more). #2 on that list would be, I don't have an exact quote, his idea of changing the tone in Washington and stopping the squabbling. All we hear from him now about conservatism is cheap name-calling you might expect from a fifth grader. #3 might be his pledge to finish the job in Afghanistan, but I understand the need for more time there. There are a bunch of lesser broken promises.
(I was once an Obama supporter).

Here's your "bit player"......

Comparatively speaking to the private sector, yes they fit the definition. I'm not defending Fannie/Freddy's mismanagement I'm saying they weren't the major player in the overall subprime game. I know you're not this obtuse so this boggles the mind...

"He didn't respond quickly enough. He doesn't care about the troops."

"He was so quick to turn this into a photo op. He doesn't care about the troops."

Such an easy game to play. :(

It is, and it's been played for too long.....roughly, since the Lewinsky debacle. It's OK to criticize policies, legislation and party platforms, but the rhetoric is getting absurd. If only people were willing to have intelligent discourse instead of attempting to defame the opposition.

Of course, that's about as likely to happen as SCSU winning an NCAA regional semifinal game.....:p

Everything any president does is political. So when he showed up at Dover AFB the other day, I believe he was sincere. But he and his people were also aware that there would be a political upside to the event. These two concepts are not mutually exclusive.

His response last Thursday clanged off the rim, and even the reliably liberal Boston Globe pointed that out. He has a chance to really excel tomorrow. He's got a tough act to follw: Reagan and Clinton really set the standard for these kinds of events. As I've said before, I hope he hits it out of the park. The hurting people at Fort Hood deserve it.

I believe in order for knuckledraggers to be happy, Obama needs to

1) Admit his Kenyan or Indonesian birth (either one will do).
2) Admit that he's secretly a Muslim and working with foreign powers to overthrow the US government.
3) Elevate George W Bush to sainthood.
4) Force Biden's resignation and have Congress replace him with Sarah Palin.
5) Resign himself, thus making Palin the Prez.

IF he does all that, maybe, just maybe, our righty friends will consider being happy. ;)

Re: Obama 7 - now what?

You weren't so sad when you played the same game over the last 8 years, so why the poopy face now?

Thats the best part of this, the same guys who have been whining for 8 years are now the guys who will defend Obama no matter what. Its quite interesting to see.

Case in point. Apparently, some people can only make their point seem valid by throwing in some insults.

Oh stop being such a wuss. All of the idiocy going on out here, between death panels, Kenyan birth certificates, and the like and you're all bent out of shape about a lighthearted dig at the righties? Please.

It'd be a lot easier to take an occasional comment lightheartedly if you weren't constantly chucking insults and other related name-calling in almost every single post. There was just as much empty attack rhetoric during the end of the Clinton Administration and the entire Bush Administration, and now the Obama Administration. It's getting old, and you're one of the primary contributors to it on this board.

Try to make a point without the constant sarcasm and childish insults. I know you can do it.

I can do it, but do I want to is the question. The window for reasonable discourse on this board closed a long time ago. I'd be more than happy to participate in some sort of renewal of those days, but do you really think there's a point to reasoning with people who think the healthcare legislation for example will legally create death panels to off people who cost the system too much money? I mean, really, why bother? More fun to call them out. Now I will confess to maybe getting some of the fringe characters like yourself confused with the Patman's and Red Cloud's of the world, and my apologies for that.

BTW - You'll find no bigger supporter of the Bush admin's handling of the financial crisis last year than myself out here, and that includes the people who thought he was a demigod.

Don't get me wrong.....needling certain people out here must be done, lest they take themselves too seriously. But don't paint every "rightie" out here with the same brush. Of course, there are a number of people out there that lack the reasoning gene.....which creates opportunities for some of us to drop the boom on them. Que sera sera.

That said, I'm not terribly happy with the health care bill due to the implications made by the POTUS with regards to end-of-life care. It does sound as if the "public option" will make decisions on what is considered necessary and what is not with regards to treatment. I also don't see how small business isn't going to dump millions of people on to the government plan given that in many cases the "penalty" would save the businesses some money, which would in turn trigger job losses in the insurance industry. And I refuse to use the term "death panels", because if anyone actually believes that there will be a finite number of people purposely making life-and-death calls on treatment, they're delirious. However, I do believe that a public option will lead to either more expensive health care (everything the government touches gets more expensive--see 'Military-Toilet Seats') or, to keep costs under control, the same amount of health care would be watered down. They really aren't any other options in a government-subsidized system. I'd have more faith in the Obama Administration if they actually did something to follow up on their cost-saving campaign promises, but everything they've done to this point has included spending more taxpayer money. So I'm a more than a little concerned when they start in on creating new government programs.

I also firmly believe that Bush was throwing money to the wrong institutions during the "bailouts". It was essentially rewarding failure, and reeked of cronyism. I have gone from being a vocal Bush supporter to someone who feels very disenfranchised with the Republican Party with regards to fiscal policy, and deficit spending in particular. The Bush Adminstration is an example of what can go wrong when you depend on the people around you (advisors, Cabinet members) running the show in a delegated-power administration. The problem I see with the Obama Administration is that it is the same thing, only worse--more cronyism and frivolous kickback spending.

I don't think even Red Cloud or Patman actually believe the death panels schtick. That'd be like me complaining that I couldn't have a decent discussion, what with all the Ward Churchill disciples like Rover on here.

Participate in the discussion that's actually here - don't run away from one that isn't.
