The third point may be the strongest.

That's the point that I am wondering about. And considering the political makeup of the bench, I would not be shocked to see that challenge upheld.

Well, they actually passed something, and it only took a year despite huge majorities in both chambers. Amazing that the will of the people sometimes gets done.

So, short term losses (which were going to happen anyway) and long term gains when the world fails to end on the chicken littles' clocks. And the bill that passes is hated by the far right and by the far left, so that's a fair approximation of sanity.

I assume (hope) you're kidding. If this monstrosity did reflect the "will of the people" it certainly wouldn't have taken this long to pass and would't have required just about every legislative trick in the book, not to mention more backroom deals than Munich.

Say, wait a minute, didn't you retire from political threads a while back with the accompanying sound of trumpets and brasses? Tan tan tah rah zing boom.

In general, I view anything passed in Congress as crap, and anything being shoveled through at 11pm on a Sunday night to be full of more **** than Homer's silo in the Simpsons' movie.

I'm guessing that there's about 10 pages of actual useful law in this reform bill and 1,890 pages of assorted monetary asskissing to random districts, organizations, companies and so on?

That odds are after the first wave of euphoria, this will end up being the Democratic response to the Iraq wars in "Never ending things that will bankrupt our nation and turn the world over to the Chinese faster."?

Someone should invent a time machine and convince Washington to take the crown he was offered. What goes on in the district named in his honor has been an unmitigated disaster for decades.

No way...I am not saying either way whether I agree with it, but I dont see the SC overruling this bill, especially because it hasn't changed anything.

I am sorry, but as someone who has had to study socialism in one form or another every year since about the 8th grade I dont see how this is socialism. I know the Right thinks they can get votes by marking anything they dont like as such and that is fine, but it isn't. I don't care how many slippery slopes you go down, it just isn't. (we wont even get into the idiots like Bachman who claim this will lead to us paying to kill babies and old people...)

Likewise, this bill isnt reform either so the left should stop talking about it as such. As I said earlier, this bill makes it possible for me to buy insurance...FROM AN INSURANCE COMPANY! And guess what, I could do that now and get subsidized so yippie kay aye you changed zero. To reform something it requires widespread change, sorry not seeing it.

I hope people bought stock in United Health Group and its co-conspirators because if so this time 4 years from now you will be able to retire thanks to this "reform".

I don't know how you can say you know what socialism is, but deny this is socialism. Even the higher up Dems are saying this is better than social security.

As far as the insurance co's, maybe you didn't hear the part that they now have to accept people with preexisting conditions. I think people have no idea what INSURANCE is!! Accepting those with preexisting conditions changes it from health insurance to health welfare. In my book, in Marx's, Obama's, in everybody's book but yours, that's SOCIALISM!!!

HANDYMAN - if you care to debate on whether this bill is part of a march toward socialism, or even the definition of socialism bring it on. I've said it before and say it again. My mom escaped this **** in Cuba in 1966. 1/2 my family is Cuban. They didn't come here for this. And let me tell you they won't sit for this in the states they live in. Rubio will take that senate seat in Florida as a referendum against this garbage.

I think we know what is and what is not socialism. You want to live there for 20 years then come back and tell me this bill isn't what it is then I'll at least give you points for seeing the world through a much different prism.

The biggest problem is that no matter how badly this bill screws up healthcare (and it will), its supporters will just say, "Well, it would've been worse if we'd done nothing," even though nobody could ever really know if that is the case or not.

Call me skeptical, but I think the new demands put on the system by the 30M new health care customers (many of whom didn't have health insurance because of their pre-existing conditions, and who will therefore by definition be expensive to care for) will outweigh the new money flowing into the system by their premiums; therefore, everyone's premiums will end up rising and we'll end up paying more money for less access to care. Fantastic.

Another facet to this is Doctors are already beginning to decline medicare patients. T-19 insurance etc.

I have a friend who's an anesthesiologist and he's told me point blank his group won't accept patients from the government plan when implemented.

That's because for a process that costs say $200 to have done, the gvt will only pay $5 to cover it and then the company/doctor's office will have to foot the rest of the bill and then they will go out of business...

I think the most interesting thing I heard about the legislation is it's similar to what Nixon asked for during his term and it's what Hillary Clinton rejected during her attempt.
