Norwich university cadets 2014-2015

Re: Norwich university cadets 2014-2015

Well I may be new to this thread, but.....All season I have stated what I thought their weakness's were and I'm told...in a perfect world that may happen, they are only freshmen, etc. Then when fan's should suck it up and "believe" I am told...nah they are going to lose.
Well, I am going to "believe" in these strong women and say I feel they are going to win (until they don't). Don't care what the stats say, what everyone writes, I am going to be a positive light to this forum and say, "They can do it!" No negative thoughts here. To the women on the team: Don't leave anything on the ice. Try your hardest! This is what I say to my daughter since day one, before every game....."Don't get hurt and have FUN!" ****GO NORWICH****

Just to get under your skin some more, you use the word "women" very frequently but please understand the girls on the team refer to themselves as girls. Yes they are young women but they still say "Come on girls, we can do this!" That's the nature of sports - no matter how old they get men will always say "Come on boys!" and women will always say "Come on girls!"

Re: Norwich university cadets 2014-2015

I'm going to take the high road here and not opin on who will win/lose over the coming weekend (it sucks when you're wrong). Heck, we barely remember who won last year, let alone who finished 2nd, 3rd or 4th.... wait, who did win last year?? I do remember the tommies came with their mascot!

Anyway, all four are winners here and not necessarily the best will win so good luck to all the "girls".

It's been so dang cold up here in the north country that I wonder if the ferry will need a ice breaker to lead the way across!?

I do like your spirit womenplayhockey so keep it up. Have you ever been to a Frozen Four tourny?

:)

What about restaurants? I've narrowed it down to Anthony's Bistro, Butcher Block and Irises. Last year I ended up at eating at the National Chains. Win or lose, I want to interract with some Platty fans.

Any suggestions?

There are few eateries that please me. I rarely go out to a restaurant that can't do a better job than yours truly in the kitchen and I'm just your average chef mind you. With that said, if you were to ask me what brand of fire water I was planning on, I would have to say Crown. I like to feel "royal" whenever I go to that rink. For ice, I just reach over the bow of the ferry. :)

If you want to interact with Platty fans then go to UNOs because that's where they all hang out. Elmira's hotel is there too.

Ya that UNO's brings back bad memories from the 9-2 drubbing last year. It was tough having to sit there and watch Bolding keep a good face while having a beer with Houles. Thanks anyway but I'm staying away from that place.

Speaking of Houles, he looks like a likeable guy. I look at Mandigo and for some reason I don't like him.

You won't be seeing me there either...win or lose. I say get over there, win it, and leave.

Bowdoin fans hang at Peppers downtown. Why, I even ran into legendary Polar Bear All-American goalie Emily McKissock at Peppers.

If you don't want UNO or any other national chain, then a trip into downtown is in order. Arnie's on Margaret St. is my personal favorite (bar downstairs, Italian Restaurant upstairs). The Pepper, near City Hall, is probably the best Mexican place in town.

I haven't been there myself, but I've only heard good things about Sawatdee Thai Restaurant. They have a downtown location on Bridge St, as well as an uptown location on Rt 3/Cornelia St.

If you want to stay out of downtown, Butcher Block is an excellent choice. Personally, I shy away from Anthony's because the price is too **** high for the amount of food you get.

If you're looking a little more casual, Chefy's Bar and Grill on Margaret Street seems to be a good place (although I haven't been there myself yet). Olive Ridley's on Court Street doesn't have the biggest menu, but the food there is excellent. Those are a couple more downtown places that are good...

Ok, well? Not bad. Had we played the 1st half of the game like we played the 2nd half, I feel it could of been anyone's game. For those that were not there, the Norwich squad basically buckled under the pressure of the event. Things turned around when at about 13 minutes into the 2nd, when Platty scored it's 4th goal, NU did two things, they called a time out, and changed out the tender. Mind you Robert had no chance on the goals charged to her, it was simply a complete let down on the ones in front of her... no excuses here folks. But a couple of NU goals later and into the 3rd, things had turned around... to the point where we were thinking if they could make it 4-3, it was anyone's game. Well, that did not happen but NU shook hands feeling good about the game.

And as I check the scoreboard, I see they will play for third vs River Falls and as I indicated in a earlier post, will be a good thing.

For you convenience, here is Dunnings writeup of the game... http://www.norwichathletics.com/sports/wice/2014-15/releases/20150320vt7leh

Disappointing, short handed goal in the 1st was a killer. We were able to get some good blast's from the point on Platty's goalie. Got to give her credit she was never out of position and didn't cough much up. In the end Platty was much more poised and efficient. Consolation games are never fun. My hope is after the game start's the competitive instinct will take over and will be a game worth hanging around Plattsburg all day for.

Plattsburgh was the better team yesterday and my hat is off to them for their defensive effort after Norwich cut it to 4-2. However, I've seen the second Plattsburgh "goal" about 50 times on video replay from literally 6 different cameras and I have yet to see a replay that has convinced me that puck went into the net.

You hate to see something like that in a game that means so much and I strongly hope the NCAA considers putting in video replay the final four sites for DIII men's and women's hockey in the near future for incidents just like that.

It's not fair to either team to have a big moment in a game surrounded in controversy like that. We need to be definitive about things like that especially in a game where the margin of error and difference between two teams is so slim. Let the players on the ice decide the game. Not a goal judge and an official.

Good luck to Plattsburgh and Elmira today in the finals and Go Cadets in the third place game vs. UW-River Falls. Lets send the five seniors off on a winning note and build some momentum for 2015-16 with a very admirable third place finish for a team with 15 freshmen.

Kind of the flip side karma of the 2 incidents with Middlebury goals disallowed in the quarter-final???

Warning: The following statement is non politically correct and may stir instant resentment from red bird fans.

I just finished looking at the recap ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZYYjRR1BAkY#t=75 ) and it seems goal number 2, the controversial one per Derick Dunning, was not controversial at all. In other words, it never went in. You be the judge... at about the 45 second mark you clearly see it hit the cross bar or maybe the post, but never the back of the net. For the benefit of those not in attendance, what happened is that the correctly positioned ref waved it off and the play went on while the "local" trigger happy goal judge figured it did. So at the next whistle, Houle rightfully questioned the call and after a meeting with the goal line judge, the ref, in all his weakness, decided to reverse himself, and award the goal.

Could it of changed the direction of the game? No one will ever know. It's too bad NCAA does not allow for video replays but with technology advancing rapidly, I would not be surprised if that changes too. Meanwhile, I now feel that the Platty win is tainted, and although Houle would never admit it, probably feels the same.

NCAA: Ok, move along as there is nothing to see here...

Anyway, good luck to you NU this afternoon.

EDIT: Seems Prez and I were typing a post at the same time!!

When I said earlier that the shorty was a killer. I fought off the urge to say what you so perfectly did. Huge swing, kills the power play and sends a very good goalie to the locker room with a dent in her confidence. Couldn't believe they were even having a discussion especially after the puck heads back up ice for 15 more secs of play. Just a shame Platty is to good of a team to be handed that gift. I guess we'll just have to be called winers and they'll look at the video with a different pair of glasses.

Whatch it again, focusing on the ref... He never once waived it off. In fact, after waiting a second or two, he definitely pointed at the net very quickly as play was continuing behind him as if he were signaling a goal... It seemed to me that he was unsure, but thought it might be possible, and therefore intended to conference with the goal judge all along. (If he's not going to check with the goal judge when he's unsure, then what is the goal judge being paid to do, exactly?)

Did it go in? To me, that video is inconclusive. I've seen pucks bounce that way off the crossbar, but I've also seen them bounce the exact same way off the netting immediately behind the crossbar (the netting is going to have a lot less give within an inch of where it connects to the bar). It is entirely possible that the goal judge had it wrong, but if the officials on the ice are unsure, while the goal judge is confident that it went in, then the official absolutely needs to consider the opinion of the goal judge. After doing that - and discussing it with the other officials on the ice in the event that they heard or saw something that would indicate a non-goal - the official in question decided to award the goal.

Again, I acknowledge the possibility that the puck never went in, but - short of video replay, which really needs to be included in the future - the appropriate procedures seem to have been followed, which ultimately lead to a goal being awarded.
