Re: Norwich hockey 2012-2013: Our thread closed before Owsego's
Great to finally meet Prezde at the UNE game--what a real plus for NU sports information. I agree with him on a shot at the ECAC titles so long as we now remain focused one game at a time. That strategy has always served Norwich well in the past--no team can be taken for granted.
To that point, the other night when UNE scored they and their fans went crazy. It always happens that way when an opponent score either the first goal of the game against Norwich, or a goal to tie up a game... or god forbid a go ahead goal. They go absolutely whacko. In other words both in an out of the ECAC-E Norwich has a big target on their back--and will so long as they dominate the conference and the USCHOL polls. It is the price of excellence so best deliver excellence at every opportunity if we want the ECAC E.
As for this weekend and being stymied by defensive, I only saw the UNE game where we were short so many players and its as though it took some time to get some Cadet momentum and coordination going. But the Cadet discipline was certainly there in the third. At one point I even saw five UNE players all crowded around a single NU player-- who had just passed it off to another Cadet.
Our kids seem to play position and wait for their shot. From what I heard from Puck Voice and the USM game--the Huskies wanted to play us to a tie by playing defense most of the game. The SOG for the three periods seem to confirm that but the boys got the job done.
Now the tough sledding begins on our march to the ECAC-E--but lets focus on Friday and let the ECAC-E championship take care of itself.
In the meantime, thanks to all the Mainers and those folks "from away" who attended the UNE pre-game dinner at TJ Pizza. Great seeing you all and look forward to seeing you again next season.
Five points clear with four straight home games now! I like our chances for 15 ECAC East regular season titles in a row!
