Derek - living in Northfield, you soon learn that if you want to go anywhere you will put miles on the car. Heck, there are people who work in the Upper Valley and in Burlington who put 100 miles per day on their cars.

Im fine with the mile drive to work everyday.

Great day for Norwich Hockey ... First Shawn Baker named a finalist for the Hockey Humanitarian Award ... and now this from the Washington Post website ...

Capitals recall Keith Aucoin
By Katie Carrera

Washington recalled veteran center Keith Aucoin from the Hershey Bears and he will participate in practice on Friday at KCI. Aucoin, 33, leads the AHL in points (70) and assists (59) through 43 games with the Bears this season.

This marks his first recall to the Capitals this season and if he plays in a game it will be his first appearance in a Washington sweater since Dec. 28, 2010 against Montreal. Over the course of his career, Aucoin (5-foot-8, 171 pounds) has played in 75 NHL games with the Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes. Aucoin will wear No. 23 for the Capitals.

Earlier on Thursday, Washington reassigned rookie forward Cody Eakin to Hershey opening up a spot on the 23-man roster for Aucoin.

Big game this afternoon at New England College. A win today would keep Norwich with at least a 3 point advantage & tie breaker over Castleton. I will be curious to see if Chris Czarnota starts in goal today. This would mean to me McShane is continuing his two goalie scenario and will need to make a decision who will be in goal for the stretch run. Could Chris be another Mike Boudreau and take them all the way to the championship game as Mike did in 2003. Both Parker & Chris have had great seasons and either could earn the spot.:)

I think there is a good chance you will see Chris today.

Just beat NEC today and do USM a favor....I think CSC is losing on purpose to kill USM chance of hosting a playoff game...:) note for people without a sense of humor: the last line is a joke!!!!

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

A great weekend for NU hockey and not so good for Castleon. All that and I did it again. Two years ago, I drove two hours to Waterville to only to see the Cadets down a goal with a minute to go. So I hit the parking lot to beat the crowd. Naturally, McShane pulls the goalie and NU gets the tie.

Yesterday, again two hours from home at the end of the NEC game. This time it is all tied it up, so I wander into "the head" for senior whiz break--while the team gathers for a few minutes between the start of the OT. Next thing I know the crowd roars and NU wins it less than a minute into overtime. Getting old stinks. :o:rolleyes:

Like I say, the ECAC-E standings look very good this AM but we still have plenty of hockey to play. And where did UMass-Boston come from? 4-1 since the semester break. Is there a new crop of students UMass or what?

Yes, this is a women's hockey event, but I am sure Lynn Beedle and Jason Wilson would appreciate your attendence ---

The Plattsburgh State women’s hockey team invites fans to “Stuff Stafford for Camp Ta-Kum-Ta” on Wednesday, Feb. 8 as the Cardinals host the Norwich Cadets. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at the Stafford Ice Arena.

All proceeds from the event will benefit Camp Ta-Kum-Ta, a summer camp for children with cancer located in South Hero, Vt.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

The Colin Mulvey pass to Tory Allen for the tip in winning goal in OT was an outstanding play. NU had lots of other chances to score but NEC goalie and Maine transfer Shawn Siman played a strong game. Got to say it looked like there were a lot more fans then what was reported in the attendance figure-213 (I would say 700+-). The game was sort of like the old NEC's games that got very chippy. The big in-state game with Castleton is next Saturday although with Castleton's loss and tie for the weekend a must win for Norwich is not necessary to stay in first place in the ECAC E.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2011-2012: In Search of a Title

Nice 3-2 win for the Cadets yesterday. Good teams find a way to win and they managed that in OT. Wicks two regulation goals came on power plays. They went 2-8 while NEC was 1-3. Norwich had numerous chances on additional power plays to push their lead to 3-1 but could not convert. That being said as soon as NEC had a power play with about 10 minutes to go they tied the game up @ 2-2. A four point lead in the ECAC East will give them some breathing room with 4 league games to go. Next weekend road games will be crucial towards their march towards 14 straight ECAC East regular season titles.

Norwich is 4 points away from clinching.

Norwich is 4 points away from clinching.

Any combination of NU points and CSC non-points totaling 4 will guarantee a tie. I'm not sure about tie breakers if CSC beats NU next week, but if NU beats CSC on Saturday, it is all over.

Cadets hold tiebreaker of wins right now due to castleton's two ties. As long as Norwich doesn't get two of its four points from ties they clinch no matter what Sparty does.

Is the second tie breaker league wins? I thought there was something involving record against the top four in the league, then the top 8 or was that left over from the interlock. I have no reason to doubt you, but I remember the the tie breakers were very convoluted in the old days, but it usually did not matter because there was only on head to head game to be considered, and usually somebody had won in the one meeting when two teams were tied.

Assuming you are correct, other words, any combination of results in which NU gains in points + CSC losses in points = 4 will do it for the Cadets.

From the handbook:
http://static.psbin.com/b/o/d0lhstbkeqk4wq/ECAC_Men-s_East_Ice_Hockey_League_Bylaws_101111.pdf

12.2 Tiebreakers
These tiebreakers (listed in order of application) will be used to determine seeding:

1. Comparison of game results between the tied teams (head-to-head).
2. Total number of league wins.
3. Comparison of records in games against top four league teams.
4. Comparison of records in game against top eight league teams.
5. Comparisons of overall goal differential in league play.

In the case of ties among three or more schools, the tie-breaking criteria will be used in
order until a team(s) is eliminated. At that point, the process returns to the first of the
criteria and begins anew to break the “new” tie. In other words, when a four-way tie
becomes a three-way tie, the three-way tie is a “new” tie.
