From a DD NU Press Release ...

Men’s Hockey: Cadets Hold Year End Awards Banquet; Name 2011-12 Captains

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich men’s ice hockey team wrapped up another successful season on Sunday afternoon with their annual season-end banquet held at Kreitzberg Arena.

The Cadets (22-6-3) won their unprecedented 13th straight ECAC East regular season title and ninth ECAC East Tournament title. They also qualified for their ninth Division III Frozen Four, all coming under current head coach Mike McShane.

NU head coach Mike McShane and the rest of the coaching staff also presented the annual end of season awards at the banquet.

Travis Janke (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan) and Parker Carroll (West Chester, Pa.) were named the Co-Rookies of the Year. Janke tied for the team lead with 39 points and led all skaters with 27 assists.

Carroll was a second semester addition and was brilliant between the pipes for NU. He went 14-1-2 with his only loss coming in the NCAA semifinals against St. Norbert. Carroll also posted a 1.82 goals against average and a .899 save percentage.

He had two goals and five assists for seven points in 24 games played.

Senior defenseman Greg Eskedjian (Barrie, Ontario) and sophomore forward Scott Schroeder (Drake, Saskatchewan) shared the Robert Priestly Award, which is given to the player that best exemplifies the spirit of Norwich University Hockey.

Senior team captain Chad Anderson (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) won the Coaches Award after compiling 11 goals and 20 assists for 31 points. He also surpassed the 100-career point mark in a game against Castleton on Feb. 11.

Pier-Olivier Cotnoir (Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec) was named the 2010-11 Most Valuable Player (In Honor of Kevin Crowley ’70) after leading the team with 21 goals to go along with 17 assists for 38 points.

Long-time Norwich athletics supporter Bill Tanner and 1975 graduate was named the 2010-11 Blue Line Club Sportsmanship Award winner.

The banquet ended with the traditional naming of next year’s captains and will be senior Shawn Baker will take over the captain’s “C” from Anderson for 2011-12. Anyone have thoughts on the captain's selections?

A well deserved MVP trophy to Mr. Cotnoir.

Come on 'Wick fans...We've got 52 more posts to close this thing out and start next year's thread. :)

I think that the choices for C's and A's are spot on. Baker and Carpino are solid leaders from the defense and both wore A's this year. Scot Schroeder has been a super performer and leader all season long. He would have been my choice to join this years A's in the leadership role. The only real question would be as to which one of Baker or Carpino would be the Captain.

I thought there may have been a chance at dual C's again this year.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

All the selections were great, and deserved. The one I might be most pleased with was Igor being named most improved. I met him the summer before his freshman year, and have always been impressed with his attitude and demeanor. I know he is happy to be a contributor on the team, and I think he haas adapted to his role well. I'm always glad to see 22 on the ice! That is a dangerous fourth line!.

Not to diminish Mr. Cotnoir's season, he did score some important and impressive goals, but I would have picked Scott Schroeder as MVP due to his contributions in all phases of the game.

Could have gone either way. Schroeder was impressive this year and probably the most consistent player throughout. Some bonecrushing hits and solid play in all three zones.

Re: Norwich Cadets Hockey 2010-2011: Title defense time.

If he had performed that way at Norwich he probably wouldn't have played more than 3 games either.
Norwich plays defense. Clarkson does not. He may have done a lot better at D-III than at D-I.

Clarkson is supposedly bringing in a Freshman goaltender to be the heir apparent to Paul Karpowich. Any playing time for Rosen and Leveau will go to near 0. I would not be surprised in one of them (not the NHL draft pick) transfers. However, it will still look like the Little Big Horn to the goalies for the forseeable future.

I am a big Scott Schroeder suporter, but Pier-Oliver Cotnoir is also an outstanding player and deserves the MVP. Any chance that Steven Schroeder will work things out so he can return to Norwich? He is also an outstanding player that was missed this year.

Not 100% sure but rumor has it that Norwich has lost some hockey goalie recruits late in the recruiting season to D1 teams. Can anyone confirm? It would be great to accept a D1 goalie transfer provided he is good enough to compete for the number # 1 job.
