Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

I am interested in finding out what other posters think about this weekend. I thought St. A's played a better game than NEC or... did Norwich not play as well as they did today? Have NEC and St. A's played each other yet? If not, I think St. A's would win if they played the way they did last night.

I'd say a little of each. The PP looked a lot better - more motion from all the guys, less point to point to half wall back to point over to the other point with no development going on down low. That was all from NU. St. A. did handle defense 5 X 5 better than NEC. I was a little surprised that NEC didn't do as well. I had seen NEC and St. A. a couple of times and thought they were both pretty good teams, but St. A. looked better this weekend.

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

They're back! Norwich 3-1 vs NEC at end of the third. Pichette very cool move and shot for a shortie, Duszynski in front of the net from Gorman and Janke on the PP and a sweet steal from Surowiec for the third goal. I think the Cadets have recovered from last nights tie to St. A's!

Janke just made NU top 10 all time assist leader. Can anybody (Prez) find the top 10 assist leader player list with stats?

Who do you think provided the PA announcer with the stat and wrote the story on it? ;)

The all-time assist top 10:

Aucoin - 124
Bellemare - 122
Liska - 108
Roberto - 102
McGregor - 101
McCarthy - 100
Fleming - 98
McLean - 94
Healy - 93
Janke - 88

Very real shot at getting all the way up to No. 3 all-time in assists. Also, he's got an outside shot at top 10 in points all-time with John Kennedy holding down 10th at 160. Janke sits with 128 currently.

Several former students of mine in that list :D

The USCHO Poll is being quite kind to our Cadets right now.

2nd ranked team in the country? I don't think that team was on the ice Friday night. Good stuff Saturday. We'll get that with a young team.

We'll see what we've got this weekend at the PrimeLink and the following weekend against Skidmore/Castleton.

A tie at Buff State and a win against a Top 15 team is less than no wins versus ranked teams and a tie at home against St.A's because St.A's is FOR REAL!

Makes PERFECT USCHO Poll sense. ...

Using My NU Math that might be a real stretch but that would be great to see

Hey ... Norwich fans didn't vote in this poll ... ask anyone over here from the Coach on down if they think the Cadets are the second best team in the country right now and the answer across the board will be polite "no".
This is an exciting young Norwich team ... but they ARE young. They will have nights when they look great ... other nights not so much.
Besides ... if there is anything we all should know by now it is that a poll at this time of the year means absolutely nothing!
So if you are really that bent out of shape about the poll start a new thread and complain about it there. It isn't our problem .. it's yours!

Right over your head....

Yup. I'll admit it ... enlighten me!

It was a J-O-K-E.....you know...the only thing that ever makes sense with USCHO Polls is the fact they hardly ever make sense....the whole "FOR REAL" has been an ongoing joke on here for umm I don't know almost 2 decades it seems like...I could care less where a bunch of suit and ties put Plattsburgh or Norwich or anyone for that matter, especially USCHO. Those of us who watch DIII hockey have a much better idea of who's who..we don't need a bunch of collegehockeystats Final Score readers (and that's probably giving too much credit) to tell us where someone is ranked. All these polls do is get the easy ones all riled up over nothing.

There is another poll :D
There will be computer rankings over there too :D

Unless Norwich wins the Primelink I can guarantee they won't even be close number one on the computer, and even if they do win, I'm not sure how high they will reach.

I do agree Norwich is still learning. Seems like the learning curve is steeper than it was when the Freshman invasion of 2009 came in. We just have to watch them

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

Norwich is a top ten team right now, but it will take another 4 or 5 games before we can determine whether they are on the way up.....or down. Being #1 in the ECAC East is good enough for me.

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

I think this is a very strong team, not saying I'd put them at #2 in the country either but I've seen some great stuff from this group. The depth is impressive and having Shane and Chris come in lighter, faster and all around better is huge when you team them with Travis. The freshman are developing and most having already lit the lamp multiple times adds a big boost to confidence. Dean and Russell work very well together and I love the chemistry among the lines. I remember going to Southern Maine and seeing the 09-10 freshman class play there...as far as I can remember it was a very ugly game and nothing stood out to me, that being the first time seeing them play, I soon realized how special that group was. With this many freshmen there will always be lapses and off games...especially this early in the season. But I agree with those that are impressed so far with these Cadets...I think there is much more to see from them. St. Anslem came out firing and were clearly set to take the top dog off...I admired the teams composure and sticking to the game plan and getting the equalizer, then coming out with a very strong win against NEC. Say what you will about this bunch but I have seen some great things develop thus far and can't wait to see them battle it out in the Primelink, maybe it will stop all this banter about not deserving a top spot in the polls...we shall see, Happy Thanksgiving!
