I echo the Saint Mike's sentiment--Bless you.
Clearly Babson was snake bite by the same serpent that has gotten to NU all to often this season. Last night it was Babson's turn since all is fair in love, war and hockey.
And for that "
handful close to the end of season nay sayers about the decline of NU hockey"---I hope the Cadets finally proved themselves to you. My favorite was the suggestion that McShane had lost his touch.......
What a great young team with its 15 freshmen who were able to demonstrated that against two very good ECAC-E teams that we can beat the best in the conference. And yes, there is no question that the teams up and down the league are better than ever--which means rough sledding for every team in every game going forward. Hats off to Babson and UMass-Boston--both great opponents.
Next up for NU; Skidmore. They have managed to tie six games this season and took two other games into overtime. One they won and against NU they lost in OT. Clearly they are relentless and when I saw them two weeks ago in their barn they hung in there against NU. But as Puck Voice has pointed out at least twice about that last game--they only dressed sixteen players (I believe is what he said). Not sure you can play at the level of post season intensity without more depth on the bench. But they will give NU more than a good game--and that is where Norwich's head needs to be right now--focusing on Skidmore.
The ECAC-E Spoiler: Overall, I believe the most dangerous wild card in the entire ECAC-E deck is University of New England. They beat Babson in their first meeting and lost to them in overtime. In their last four games they showed they have some stuff including a one goal loss to their next weeks ECAC Tournament opponent: UMass-Boston (4-3).
My guess is compared to the first half of the season they are by now confident that they can play with anyone--- which makes them very dangerous. Underestimating them would be a big mistake. Good luck Cadets going forward.....
