Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

it also seems that Coach McShane hasn't settled on his first team yet either. There have been two to five personnel changes for each game, and this has got to be making continuity somewhat of an issue. The "senior line" seems set, but he has been tinkering with the other three lines and the defensive pairings all season long. Hopefullly we will have a "go to" line-up pretty quick.

Thanks to a trusty longtime Norwich fan, I came across this video today featuring Colin Mulvey '13 in their weekly video series "Know Your Nailers"

Mulvey has played in 24 games this season with Wheeling, potting four goals and two assists for six points so far. Nice three minute interview with a lot of references to Norwich.

I'd say that when you have a lot of interchangeable parts it is best to give them all some playing time ... fit their specific skills to the next opponent, or their rink or whatever. When you've got depth ... use it.

On that note, I noticed that you're still being called an "Assistant" on your norwichathletics.com bio, and there's a game against Colby-Sawyer listed on the varsity schedule. At least it says we won it, thankfully since they don't have a varsity team.

Thanks for your efforts DD! Good to have good people in the right positions.

Well at 14-5-2, they are showing a lot of success, and have kept pretty much everybody available to play. As the season winds down, I would expect that there won't be much more changing of personnel,(unless because of injury or discipline). Coach will put what he considers his best chances for success on the ice. The time for the team to gel is now.

i have enjoyed watching this team play from day 1. the players never take a shift off and they are very fast and skilled.i have full confidence that they will play well the rest of the season and into the playoffs.

Congrats to Shane Gorman on being named a semifinalist for the 2014 Joe Concannon Award!

Release: http://www.norwichathletics.com/x/vsfr9

Well deserved for Shane who is a great kid on and off the ice and I'm glad to see he's been such a vital piece offensively this year as well. Hope Travis, Chris and him and can get going again though on that top line for this big stretch run.

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

I have enjoyed watching the Cadets this year but I will be closely watching to see if they recruit any Western Canada players like the old days. Many of the players recruited in the past were day 1 starters and high producers from the start. I would think that another goalie recruit would be on the top of the list too. Many of the Norwich freshmen will probable improve like Shane Gorman but they could use a couple more All American type players.

The days of Norwich getting a significant number of western canadiens is probably over....

Might be one or two here and there but I think those days are gone.

Prez do you expect in the future that the mid-western powerhouses like
St. Norbert and Adrien will be stronger that the east teams since they are so close to the Western Canadian and Ontario leagues plus the excellent NAHL recruits? I have noticed that even Oswego and Plattsburgh are recruiting more US players so the restrictions on Canadian aid must be hurting.

Also wonder if the recruiting change will result in teams going after more D1 players not happy with playing time.

not sure, but dont think the D3 coaches can "go after " the d1 player who is not happy with time.coaching, etc etc, I belive the player has to contact the coach??

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

Yes you are correct, however you sure can get the word out that you are interested in a DI transfer, just can't say name or contact them :-)

A lot of the transfer recruiting these days is aided by the players themselves having connections via juniors or hometown ties to other guys who may not be happy with their current situation. Which normally is followed up by a "Hey man that's too bad, I am loving it here you should just transfer here and we can rip it up!" comment. By the time a coach is actually involved (via the unhappy player contacting him) much of his work has been done, all he needs to do is bring him up for a visit where he can stay with his buddy and see the campus.

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

Just want to say the audio and video feed of last night's Castleton/Norwich game were excellent. Also Jack Healy must be the second best D3 radio announcer after George. Also looked like a good crowd at Spartan Arena.

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

I watched the NSN feed and listened to WDEV. For the first time that I can remember they were in sync. For the whole game! I usually don''t say this, BUT.....the officiating crew gave the advantage to Castleton. The penalty called against Norwich that Castleton scored on was a travesty. And there were a couple others that were nearly as bad, which caused the Cadets to have to spend time killing penalties rather than playing their offensive style hockey. I didnt see any called against Castleton that were not legitimate.

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

Are you kidding me! First off Norwich had 5 powerplays to Castleton's 3. "I usually don't say this"...well it's good that you usually don't say that because you make yourself look like you don't know the game of hockey. There was no advantage to Castleton and of course you didn't see any that were not legitimate. It is unbelievable that when your team has not won in 3 games you start blaming officiating. You went 0-5 on the PP!!!!

I was able to synch them pretty well. I used the non-flash version of DEV, and had NSN is a different browser, with both visible to me. When one got ahead of the other, I could use the time clock to see who I needed to pause to keep them all in synch. Almost as good as just having one feed. If you can't pause both, its harder to synch them. Today, I guess it is just radio. Missed much of the third because I got a phone call from a friend in Northfield, and I missed the tying goal.

A tie is better than a loss, and I get that this is a real rebuild season. There is talent there, but still there is just a bit missing. It's hard to blame goal tending when you only score one, but I sense we are still looking for somebody to be the spark in goal. If you have supreme confidence in the GK, you can afford to take a few more risks on offense and be a little less tentative.
