Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

George I hate to say it but when I was a Cadet UVM did't play hockey, the biggest enemy was and always will be, in my book, the Panthers.

OK, here's the deal, if you were a Norwich Cadet back in the 60's, UVM was your biggest enemy, both in football and in hockey. Glorifying some puke from UVM just raises the ire in THIS Cadet, especialy when that groovy UV guy plays for an opponent. For George to have a man crush on him is understandable, having been the voice of the Cats for a number of years, but those days are over. Bleed Maroon and Gold, not Green and Gold.(BTW, we still have football!!):) Oh, and can I get extra credit for wearing Kieth Aucoin's sweater during the game on Tuesday??

School isn't back yet either? Though I did see the women's team was there.

Kids just got back on Sunday so they were here. A decent number of them showed up for the Jersey Night promotion.

I'm proud to say someone with a Rangers jersey took the top prize! :)

I would have worn a Hartford Whalers ;) I did note the Jersey Night promotion, but it did seem like a lackluster crowd for that caliber a game - maybe the Tuesday night date had an impact.

It's been like that all season for us....been averaging around 1500.

Lackluster crowds became the norm when the "interlock" ended. :(

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

Yes the numbers are down and well continue to go down as long as the price of a ticket goes up. The price now is 10 dollars per person.Years ago Plattsburg had the same problem till the fans said ENOUGH is ENOUGH and they lowered them. At Norwich they raise the cost of season tickets up every year that they host the Prim Link because there are 4 more games but keep it the same price the next years after. Oh yes they do say that this also covers the girls games.Norwich is the highest priced D III game to go to in the country. So how can the people of central Vermont afford to go to their games.Plus also you have to pay for your seasons tickets in August so they can use your money for the fall sports season. For the last 5 years the number of season ticket holders has fallen each year as there is a big turn over each year. I hope Norwich learns soon that ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Years ago Norwich lost 1/3 of its Blue line club because they raised the dues 50 % and the Fans said ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. Thats way you don,t seen the Fan bus any more at away games.:eek::eek: I only hope that they do know you can only go to the well so many times before it is to MUCH.

I'd have to disagree with that. IMO it has more to do with the aging of the fan base, and the drop off in the number of casual fans who show up.

The 2010-11 season was the last interlock, avg. attendance was 1732.
For 2009-10, it was only 1498, and for 2011-12 it was only 1421. But it jumped to 1618 the next year.
So far this year, the big limiter seems to be the number of games when the students are gone, or just arrived. The average attendance should go up now.

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

Attendance is a concern ... Kreitzberg used to be THE place to be on a game night ... but after 16 seasons the novelty has worn off and it is going to take a lot more promotion (like last night's Jersey thing) to bring people in.

The students blow hot and cold ... there is a real disconnect between the team and a big part of the student body ... the Corps.
There would be more of the Corps at games if there were more members of the corps on the team. Right now more of the corps show up for the club team games because there are a lot more corps guys playing. I think things like getting varsity players to go out to dining halls and recruit students to come (as some did before last night's game) is a great step.

As to the people of Central Vermont ... actually of anywhere in Vermont ... you've got to promote the games ... the excitement this team generates ... etc. You can't just throw the doors open and expect people to come pouring in ... unfortunately it doesn't work that way anymore. It is a great product, and with proper promotion people will come. But the days of sellouts every night are probably gone for ever.

Hey I got a great idea, lets stop streaming and broadcasting the games. If want to see the Cadets come on out. I am sure the video streaming has cut into our attendance. Don't worry we have no plans to discontinue this service.

Just add the internet traffic to your attendance figures ;)
