Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

We had 793 different IP addresses tune into last nights game, or maybe we charge to watch the games

Oh, the internet viewers PAID, I dreamt of the Hilltop Inn and Community Savings Bank all night ;)

Seriously, IMO that (the unique IP addresses) is a note worthy stat I would like to see from all schools who have them right along side the physical attendance.

Oswego averaged1,064 unique viewers for men's hockey for the 2012-13 season...the SUNYAC final was 3,510, equaling the SRO crowd in the rink. These numbers are more impressive when you consider Time Warner cable distributed most games across most of Central New York into more than a half million customer homes on a digital sports channel.

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

Norwich beats Middlebury 5-2, to finish a tough stretch of 5 games. Two league contests coming up next weekend.

Clearly that was not the best Middlebury team that has ever squared off against Norwich--but individually they have talent.

And maybe I am trying to read too much into the game but I sensed the Norwich defense did an outstanding job breaking up anything Middlebury tried to do other than the Panther surge during the first half of the 2nd period. Yes, yes, I am aware that in the 1st period Middlebury was called back four time for being offsides but the rest of the time while attacking--- the NU defense seemed to be well organized and backing one another up when ever the Panters came at them.

On the flip side 25 minutes worth of NU penalties is much to much. I am also not sure if I recall any recent NU teams that seems to be hitting as hard as this one. I am not suggesting goon hockey---the Cadets just seem more willing to take a more physical game to their opponents than finesse them with speed and guile. Actually they seem to be able to do a bit of all three.

Still the game was a good solid win and a great confidence builder. Now NU has to deal with USM and UNE---a team that seems now to be able to go nose to nose with anyone and beat them. The perfect weekend would be for NU to pick up four points while Babson and UMass beat each other up with win one each in their cross town, back to back games in Boston. But lets just take it one game at a time.:)

I believe a lot to the problems Middlebury had was do to the fact that they played Plattsburgh the night before in what was a very high energy game. You can see that the Cardinals also went down to Williams yesterday.

I agree as well and I agree with old rook. Norwich checked and checked and checked relentlessly in the 1st period which completely threw Middlebury all out of whack.

The penalties are a bit troublesome but remember 15 of them came from one monetary lapse where Surowiec because he is a big kid made contact with the head of a smaller Midd player in the neutral zone. I don't think there was any malicious intent it just was a product of the two players' size.

However that is Surowiec's 2nd game misconduct so I don't think we'll see him Friday night or maybe even Saturday too.

Some of us actually would pay a reasonable fee, but it would have to have a "bulk" discount, and not be a feed that would buffer too often.

great feed tonight against UNE, is it HD? Looks awesome!

Re: Norwich Cadets '13-14 - A New Look Forward

The scores of both of this season's Norwich/UNE games do not begin to reflect how far the UNE program has come since I saw their first game a few years back against the Cadets in that black hole: The Biddeford Arena. Nice job UNE.

Meanwhile, Norwich have seemed all season to need time to get its steam up and when they do they own a game's momentum. I am not sure the Cadets will be given a 20 minute grace period to take charge of a game as we get down to the short strokes of the season--and we face some tough teams at the end. But I remain impressed with these Norwich freshmen and how our defense has closed down the last three opponents. If they can continue scoring and defending as they have in these last three outings---they have matured as a team.

Nice to see Babson beat UMass at UMass. It will be interesting to see what happens when they beat on each other come Saturday afternoon in Babson's barn. But that is not the Cadet's concerns-their job is to deal with USM. Good luck Cadets

Had a bit of a challenge last night because of bandwidth and other issues where I was/am. Lots of buffering, and trying to watch the Avs with a 5:30 game at the same time made it "interesting." Watched the 2nd period on my iPhone (don't know for sure about the sound, because I had it down low much of the time but boy what a tiny picture - but it didn't buffer, like my computer was). Then put it back on the computer for the third period. Shared bandwidth is not fun.

As for what I did see of the game, once again we that teams with a modicum of talent that try to skate with the Cadets (especially at Kreitzberg) seem to run out of gas about halfway through. On the other hand this year we have seen that teams with a lot of talent seem to be able to find a way to make things tough on NU when they play a physical game. I think that is something that our young guys need to learn. They still have to work on coming back from adversity late in a game.
