Norwich 2021-2022 - A New Era

I agree Puck Voice, that was the best Skidmore team I have ever seen. It also most looked like they were playing man to man especially in the neutral zone, it was so difficult for Norwich to get into the offensive zone. That being said, Norwich was not up to their usual speed and the physical play of Skidmore seemed to slow them down even more. I think the whole team tried the best they could, but I was mostly impressed with Gaudette, Brendan Jones, O'Mara and Nagle. Despite 2 goals against, Albano played a very good game.

This team appears to need a lot of rest, fluids and maybe some Chicken Soup, that's my prescription!

The Kerner, O'Mara and Gaudette line scored 11 points out of a team total of 17 last night, including Gaudette's natural hat trick, 4 goals total (3 of which were power plays) and 7 assists!

Kinda goes to the notion that even an end-of-the-bench guy at a terrible D-1 team (Maine) can be a standout player at even a very good D-3 team.

The gulf still exists, apparently.

A big two points at NEC!
Yeah I know three would have been better but when you run into a hot goalie (53 saves) you take what you can get.

Big goal by Nagle. Three of his five have been game winners ... two of them in OT.

Four left ... three against teams that beat us the first time around ... back to work.

Going to be something...

I just hope they all don't knock each other out of Pool C spots. So many good teams in the league this year. Certainly at least two should be in the NCAAs.

Five of the TOP 13 in PWR
For Norwich we know Win League Tourney or be left out
The Playoffs have already started

With apologies for the general NEHC discussion in the Norwich thread, but on the topic of points and the extremely tight grouping, the recent announcement of inclusion of all teams in the conference tourney included the statement - “For any conference games unable to be made up before the end of the regular season, forfeit wins and losses will be added to league standings as appropriate due to COVID-19 postponements. Final seeds and pairings will be announced no later than Sunday, February 13.”

From what I could see, this would only apply to two games, both involving Southern Maine at Elmira & Hobart from mid-January. There does not appear to be much room to make-up the games by February 13, so will these go in the books as ‘forfeit wins’ for both Hobart and Elmira, adding 3 more points to their conference total should the make-up games not happen? This, of course, presuming it was indeed Southern Maine that forced the need to postpone the match-ups during that weekend in January.

Those three points could be crucial in seeding the conference tournament.

Cheers!!!

I think more than likely you're going to see forfeit wins for both Elmira and Hobart so add three points to each of their totals and they are certainly in the driver's seat for the top 2 spots.

For lack of a better term, THAT SUCKS!!!
They should either be forced to make up the games or the seeding should be done based on percentage.

It's that time again where the games are critical. I'm looking forward to the challenge of the Statesmen finishing the regular season against a great hockey program in Vermont. I have total respect for the Cadets and their home ice envionment, as Hobart fights to secure home ice in the playoffs( despite comments ,the Cooler is fully enclosed, but plans for a remodelled visitors lockeroom were nixed due to Covid expense needs :)). That said, this is a very competitive conference and anything can happen, so just happy to see some great hockey in the next few weeks and the chance to make it to the NCAA playoffs. Good luck to the Cadets.

The Statesmen have been the class of a very competitive league from the opening gun. Deep and talented squad that still returned some big impact players from the 2020 squad. Should be an exciting weekend in Northfield. Norwich hasn't had their "backs to the wall" like this in 20+ years when it came to needing results to try and just get one home playoff game. The road to the NEHC/ECAC East has long run through Northfield.

Two top-10 ranked teams coming to Kreitzberg on Friday and Saturday. Can't beat that. It's winter carnival weekend on campus, senior day on Saturday. Hoping for two big and boisterous crowds. The last Friday night home game vs. Castleton was one of the best student crowds we've had in a long time.

Good luck tonight Cadets, we'll be watching. I hope all the locals get to the rink and cheer the guys on.
