Norwich 2021-2022 - A New Era

Game against Elmira last night was definately a thriller, especially the 3-3 OT. I was on the edge of my seat for that and jumped a few times as if I could push that puck into the goal. Well played by both teams (except the slow Norwich start in the first period). I've decided to name this season "The Season of Ties", sure does show how competative the NEHC has become.

The Cadets need to come out strong in the first period today vs Hobart and stay that way throughout all 3 periods. We can beat them if we are smart and fast and put them back on their heels a bit. Good luck guys!

Tough loss at home, probably the last game at Kreitsberg this season. Good luck to all the seniors, hope you can go out in style in the playoffs. No matter what, this team had heart and promise and gave us a lot of exciting hockey this season. Thanks Cadets!

I hope the Cadets and Statesmen stay alive long enough in the playoffs and meet in the Cooler in a game that really counts. Our Home uniforms are a simple white with orange lettering , so not to offend your announcer and his dislike for the full orange... I think he called them unprofessional :( . No worries, I actually sort of liked the old jerseys as well....I think the Statesmen goal scorers seem to be happy with any jersey. Kreitsberg looks like a great hockey facility where fast skaters can skate, the Cooler requires a bit of experience to play the boards. We'll see if home ice is an advantage. Good luck to the Cadets against Babson!

The criticism of the sweater WAS a bit excessive; particularly some of the terms used (unprofessional, and I think I heard a goofy in there). At least the jersey numbers were very easy to make out. Hobart is GOOD. When you're good, wear anything you want.

The home whites are really sharp, by the way.

Sorry if I went overboard about the Hobart sweaters ... too pumpkin like for my taste and I really liked their blues ... but whatever they wear they are the clear front runners going into the tournament!

BTW ... Game Saturday at Babson now listed as a 4 pm start.

Not a problem . Last AD tried avoiding the fact that our traditional colors are orange and purple, now the Hobart teams are owning the colors. The football team has a number of nice combinations but the full orange pants and jerseys , a bit like Clemson, requires some dark shades to watch ....so owning the pumpkin color is the current trend. Hopefully Hobart and Norwich can make it all the way to Lake Placid and we can enjoy the visual once more. :)

Clemson does a tremendous job with the purple and orange color scheme (founded by a Norwich alum I might add!)

While some didn't care for the orange...I didn't mind them too much. The thing I care most about with my role is big, clear, easy to read numbers and those uniforms fit that bill to a T. I do think some purple trim to the sweaters or some purple pants or a purple bucket would really make them pop and look excellent. But, who am I to question the No. 1 team in the league and certainly what looks to be a final four caliber team. If you're good, you can wear whatever you want as long as it meets the NCAA uniform standards! :)

I asked on Twitter when was the last time Norwich was on the road for the Quarterfinals and got this reply (was that you Derek?) from @NorwichCadets

1997-98 was the last time NU men's hockey was on the road for league quarterfinal game, coincidentally, also against @BabsonAthletics. Norwich beat Babson 5-0 and then Holy Cross 5-3 before ultimately falling in the league championship to Conn. College 7-6 in OT.

Congrats to Norwich Cadets for placing 2 players on the NEHC 1st Team Honors - Drennan Atherton- Goalie of the year and Devon Becker- Defenseman. Also Clark Kerner- 3rd Team Honors Forward and named to the All Rookie Team. Not a bit surprised by these honors. Well deserved!

Beat the pants off of Babson tomorrow night guys, you have done it before and I know you can do it again! We'll be watching from afar.

I was unable to watch the game Saturday and was hoping to see some comments about the game. Babson outshot us, but did they outplay us as well? At least we have a base for next year, but was wondering about a goalie and some forwards to score? We have had a lot of OT this year.....unusual year. Hope for some comments.

Follow up question: Norwich has been an absolute top-tier team for a very long time. When was they last time they fell off the poll?

Pretty evenly contested in my opinion, but I’d give a slight edge to Babson. Atherton made some great saves to keep us in it. Once overtime started, I really felt that Norwich dominated the first few minutes, but when they were unable to put one in despite the dominance, I started to get a bad feeling. Shortly thereafter, Babson won it.

My NU fandom hasn’t been as long as some others here, but in that time, every “disappointing” season has been followed up by an extraordinary one (see: 2010, 2017). Really looking forward to next year. This was such a strange season, so many OT games which could’ve gone our way, but didn’t. There is A LOT of talent coming back, and we’ve got a great coach.

Consider this my assessment, it isn't meant to be critical, but........... It was back and forth, with each team having some extended offensive zone time. After NU scored, they did an excellent job of breaking up each entry by Babson, and keeping them off balance. It worked really well for 10 minutes, and looked like they would be able to close out hte game. But after a bad penalty, not a bad call, (my opinion) at an inopportune time, things reversed. A quick score 9 seconds into the power play, and NU was not able to control the play for ay extended period. Icings... Sheesh. Just didn't ever feel like they were going to rally again.

The new players look like they should do pretty good next year, after another year of conditioning and play, so the outlook is positive.

Poll, schmoll. I don't understand why it's even published anymore. It means absolutely nothing.

#16 in the PW. Still on the map.

NU will likely have to get to the conference final to have a shot at an AL bid, but that's doable, if difficult. And of course the AQ is still in play.

That conference is probably the toughest in all of D-3. The BS PS tournament is going to be a dog-fight.

Fish...Norwich is already out of the conference tournament...they lost last week to Babson in OT

You can't act like you know everything...and then tell a team's fans that their team has to win a tournament they've already been eliminated from in order to make it to the NCAA's, it's a bad look

Um, sorry. Thought that was a RS game. I'll try to keep up.
