Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

Great win for the Cadets tonight! Hopefully the start of things to come.

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

First the NSB tourney, and now the Cards. Starting to look like the Cadets I have known. Very strong except for the last 2 minutes of the 2nd period when they went into slow-mo.

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

"Work in progress" where have I heard that b4???:D
OT losses to #2, #8, & #9, and tonights 6-3 win over #2 Plattsburgh would support Prez's contention that the work IS progressing.

And don't forget how many of those OT losses are a crossbar away from being OT wins. Like I asked last weekend, is everybody ready to come down off the ledge?

If an 18th straight regular season title is not in the cards this year, perhaps we'll see a new kind of hunger from the boys...

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

Outstanding game Friday between the Cadets and Cards. In the second period when the Cadets started to contest every inch of the ice I though the game sort of went Norwich's way. Just curious if other SUNY teams have tried this checking game play or maybe most SUNY teams don't have the speed to keep up with Plattsburgh. I though also Plattsburgh worked over Will Pelletier in the first period which lead to the rough stuff. Breakout game for Justin Carbonneau but a lot of fans have recognized his talent for some time. He's got size, speed and a good shot. Fox snf Pelletier are a couple of exciting players to watch.

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

Hello
I was just wandering if any one saw the little chat that Emery was having with McShane at center ice after the game? It didn't look like the normal good game. Dear old Bob looked a little bit cranky to say the least. I must say it is a thing of beauty to watch the cadets when they get there game running. I thought it was the put up or shut up game the one we could stop kidding ourselves or start to play and play they did. Now they know they can beat any body in D3. Plattsburgh is as good as it gets this year and they spanked em. Good job men, may there be more where that came from.

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

Hey Prez

What's Norwich's home record since they moved into the new barn?

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

Because of the nature of the school, Norwich recruits nationally (and internationally). There are currently quite a few students from Colorado. Lots of kids out there looking for military colleges, particularly Air Force "brats". Very logical to advertise out there.

One thing about NU, if they're spending money on something, you can bet they've done thorough research on the cost-effectiveness of it.

NU Pastime, any Norwich ads in St. Louis? *I know you're not there now

I know I'm backtracking a bit after a big win, but I haven't been able to log on for a few days, so forgive me.

I didn't notice any in St. Louis when I was home over the holidays, but I routinely hear them here in Virginia on country stations and ESPN radio. I'm sure marketing professionals know better than this proud alumn, but my gripe was that I thought a school that has produced over 200 generals, 7 Medal of Honor recipients, 6 governors, CEOs of companies like NBC, Prentice Hall, and USAA, and a long list of other remarkable individuals could emphasize something more in their ads than "Look how convenient we are! No entrance exam needed!"

Hey Prez

What's Norwich's home record since they moved into the new barn?

257-31-9 for a .865 winning percentage. Saturday's game vs. Southern Maine will mark the 300th game in Kreitzberg Arena's history.

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

Side note thing that went under the radar this weekend...Babson only got one point vs. NEC and Saint Anselm so that's a big help for Norwich as it tries to make up ground in the second half in the NEHC standings.

Babson now has one game in hand on Norwich and just a one point lead. UMass Boston is still four points clear though with a game in hand as well. This weekend UMass Boston and Babson play a home and home. If I was a Cadet fan, I would be rooting for a Babson sweep of UMass Boston putting Norwich on equal footing with UMB if Norwich were to win out in its remaining NEHC games. Babson would then need to drop a point along the way too besides losing to Norwich. A very tough road to hoe for sure still, but last weekend gave a little bit of life to the 18th straight title hopes.

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

Not much chatter on here, but I am looking forward to seeing the Panthers tonight. They took Trinity to OT in their last game AND outshot them (seems like many 't's occurring......), and were tioed with Plattsburgh with 5 to go at Primelink....

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

Congrats to Mitch Byrne, the forward who has been playing defense for the Cadets, on his first career goal! Well done, great shot and also great defensive play tonight.

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

Unfortunately didn't get to make it to Northfield last night but was watching NSN for the majority. I was listening on silent and distracted with something else at the time of the high stick goal and was interested as to how they called it back. Obviously the right call, so credit to the officials.

Just have been wondering about a replay system for a few years now and was interested to see how they called it back after the original call was goal. Did the other ref just override after he made his case? Or did they happen to look at the NSN broadcast at all? Great win for the Cadets! Keep rolling!

I believe the goal was disallowed because it was a high stick from Dean Neizgoda that got the puck over the crease. At the same time, Middlebury committed a tripping penalty on the Norwich player who made the initial shot on goal. It took the refs a few minutes to figure out what to do, and they certainly made the right call about the high stick. It was a wild and confusing second period...3 on 3, 4 on 4 play, lots of nets being dislodged, etc. In my opinion it was a messy game with Norwich passing the puck poorly, players standing still and not in position to get a pass, and passing the puck to the opponent. I am sure Mike McShane will be addressing that as we speak. I actually wondered if the ice was sticky last night because the puck seemed to move very slowly, but Middlebury didn't seem to have the same problem. Period One was dominated by Middlebury, Period Two was basically Norwich but incredibly messy, and Period Three was a split between the two teams with maybe a little more advantage to Wick. Norwich has been taking too many senseless penalties such as Niezgoda slashing a players stick after he passed the puck and his checking penalty in the first period, that might have been an hit from behind major cause the player was bent forward and went head first into the boards. Dean is a good player but sometimes too aggressive or impulsive. Almost all the Norwich players had a tough night with poor passing, being out of position, and standing still waiting for a pass. Maybe it was just one of those games where we were lucky to come out on top.

On the bright side, Mitch Byrne who has been playing defense, got his first career goal on a beautiful one timer slap shot. He is doing very well as a D man, maybe should stay on the Blue line for the remainder of the season.

Good luck this weekend Norwich!

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

I really liked the game against Plattsburgh and thought the rest of the way might just get better and better. But once again they slid backwards in my opinion and will have to play much better to a seat on the ice in Lake Placid. They looked so good against the Cardinals. Dean is going to have to play smarter, four stints in time out room in two games is a bit much for one of the best players. They really looked rusty right from the drop of the puck and never really got going. I really was enjoying the goalies too , when the season started, but true to Norwich form they seem to be average at best now. What happened? Maybe they will get on track soon and not look back. With U Mass and Babson lurking they better find the next gear and soon.

The officials got together, discussed, and made the call.

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

Ok, Ok, they have stuff to work on. GOOD! Will make McShane push them more and fix those issues. Middle of the week game I'm not too worried. Not to mention, Middlebury is a competitive team who have played some of the best teams very close. And sloppy or not, got the win!

Positives we can take away:

1) Another win and tough defense without Brandrup who in my opinion is one of the MVPs of the young season. He is usually a rock back there.
2) PowerPlay went 3-5!
3) Another Shorthanded goal! Gotta love that!
4) Great goals and passing on Byrne and Niezgoda goals

Negative that I can agree with and stress 100%:
STAY OUTTA THE SIN BIN! Been hurting us all year!
