Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

For comparison, Plattsburgh has 10, Adrian has 10 and Oswego has 16 Canadians.
Leading to the assumption, that if you get the right mix of players, you can win, no matter where they were born!!
To me, coaching still has a lot to do with a team's success or lack there of..

Which means to me that there is plenty of talent including a boat load from the US. Norwich is having a down year to date. It happens! SNC was down last year and has bounced back so far this year. I do not see Norwich following in the path of Middlebury. I suspect that they have a chance to turn it around yet this year and if not, they will make the changes to right the ship for next year.

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

There are a few things at play here.
1. The US Junior system a decade ago was, well....pathetic compared to the Canadian Junior systems.
2. More teams have come into the mix of not only fielding competitive teams on the ice, but through the administration as well. No longer do just a couple teams get the Grade A players nor is it necessary to primarily recruit north of the border. More teams have moved from the young 18 year old freshmen to the 20-21 year old Junior players. Successful DIII teams have had to widen their recruiting zone, for some schools it's just too much. For many years Norwich was one of the schools who would put a dozen or more foreign players on their roster...not so much lately.

You don't have to convince me...I've seen every home game and a couple road ones. This team still has talent, does it have the same talent of the 2010 or the early 2000 teams? Probably not, but those were some special teams. I don't think there is quite as much depth as there used to be. Pelletier is still a special player, he is on a scoring rate similar to Keith Aucoin/Kurtis McLean when he's been able to play. 17 points in 6 games is nearly 3.00 points per game. That's a better clip that Aucoin achieved while at Norwich.

Norwich is literally three hit posts in overtime away from being 15-3-0 and we're not even having this discussion. When fully healthy, Norwich can still compete with pretty much any D-III team in the country and that's evidenced by the Trinity and second Plattsburgh games.

We'll see what happens with UMass Boston and Babson on the second go around at home this time in a few weeks. For now though, NU has to focus on a tough road trip to NEC/Saint Anselm that just gave UMass Boston and Babson fits two weekends ago.

The regular season title dream is over, now just focus on trying to get home ice for the first round and take it one game at a time from there.

Nice to see you have hope for the team no matter what. They sure can use it. I am quite sure they will put in another good game or two, but they are not getting better each game , as needed. No response to Corry G. not being there. I think it is a factor in this.

Considering the fairly steep drop in the number of Canadians (and subsequently quality) at a number of programs, my guess is that inequitable distribution of aid to foreign students was more endemic than originally thought. Odd the level of impact that a couple of NCAA investigations and founded allegations has on the sport!?

I wonder how the very weak Canadian Dollar is going to affect Canadian Players coming down now?

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

I decided a couple weeks ago to book a cruise out of Miami the first week in February, I was concerned about getting a hotel for the night before, but when I called around, several told me that Canadian cancellations are the highest they had ever seen. It is starting to make an impact for sure.

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

....All doom and gloom aside, we're spoiled **** rotten. Every "normal" program experiences the occasional down year. We've just been "un-normal" for so long that it's shocking to be less than dominant in the league. ....

You are right. It has been a horrible season so far. Consider this. Norwich is ranked 11th in the USCHO D3 poll (not that polls count for much). Nine teams in the nation have more wins than Norwich. Of Norwich's 6 losses, 4 have been to teams currently ranked 4, 6, 7 and 8 in the nation and 3 of those 4 losses have been in overtime (and two after denting the crossbar in overtime).

Off with McShane's head! (Just kidding).

Get a grip fellas.

While it may not be the dominant season that we are used to, there is a lot to be thankful for and the reality is that the competition is keener and there is much more parity in the league than in the past.

I'm hearing from a coworker with a son who attends Norwich that the school is currently on lock-down with police sweeping the campus. Stay safe, everybody!

Update: She just got the update that it's a bomb threat, classes are cancelled.

Classes in the U building are cancelled only.

Update: threat over. Normal operations resume. Nothing suspicious found.

Is there a video feed for tonight's game?

As always, I encourage everyone to check the Norwich Men's Ice Hockey schedule page for the video/audio and live stats links to home and away games.

NEC is streaming the game and the link is: http://portal.stretchinternet.com/nec/

You can find that on the Norwich men's ice hockey schedule page as well.

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

Good luck tonight Cadets, you are down a few key players, but the skill on this team can cover those that are out. I have confidence in you and I won't give up on you, as you will not give up on the game. All the one point wins and loses show that you are in the mix and need to keep pushing and create opportunities until the end. One or two players will not make Norwich a winning team... but 25+ players will. Stay positive and aggressive (but not the aggressive play that results in penalties:o !) Looking forward to watching the game, Go Cadets!
