Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

+1

Let's not forget how we handed it to Plattsburgh in the second game...especially the third period..and have lost on some fluky goals as well. Has this team been great? No, in fact I will say at times this season they have looked sloppier than I have seen a Norwich team play (I've been spoiled as a fan as I started attending around the Keith Aucoin era). But they have also shown resiliency and fight, as well as playing with some very tough competition.

To be honest, this right here (http://norwichathletics.com/sports/mice/2012-13/roster) is something that interests me. Notice all the players that came in with Dean. Now Dean sits alone...In past Championship teams it always seems like we have a very solid group of seniors. We don't always have a group of powerhouse goal scoring seniors but even if they lack in skill, they usually make up for it with leadership and pushing the team to fight through. I believe this is part of the struggles this year as well. Yes, we have a great group of Juniors, but I think we could use some more Seniors fighting for that last run.

I predict both a very strong and determined Norwich squad for 16-17, and a very talented freshman class coming in

I gotcha. I was just having a little fun.

You're right, Norwich has graduated dmen in the past. However, I don't know if we've ever lost our top 3* all at one time before.

That said, I think this year has been a perfect storm of graduation losses, unbelievable amounts of injuries, and plain old bad puck luck (see the 3 posts in OT Prez mentioned). Frankly, I think the bad bounces are part of the reason Norwich is still ranked as high. We could very easily be sitting at 16-3-1 and everyone would be raving at what a great job Coach McShane has done with an inexperienced, and oft-injured, team

I feel like we've been talking about how young and inexperienced the team is for the past three years.

I think a lot of that relates to the huge current junior class. It's tough to call this team inexperienced in my opinion because of that huge class of juniors. I think that's a big reason why the last two years it has come up.

But if you do look at it, every season the last 3 years Norwich has had one position group that has been "young and inexperienced".

2 years ago it was the forwards. Last year it was the goalies, this year it's the defense. Plus, there is only one senior on this year's team so I'm sure that lends itself to that statement a bit too.

Next year would be the year it would be tough to make any excuses. Lose literally one player to graduation, albeit a really good one, but still. Huge senior class, talent at every position. Would think just a couple of pieces here or there would set the Cadets up for a special year.

Pres just look at the NEHL stats to campare NU to the rest of the league. 2 players in the top 25 isn't enough production. Something isn't working.

I agree that the offense has been Jekkyl and Hyde a bit. It stinks that your two best forwards have missed a huge number of the league games too. That doesn't help.

Honestly though the biggest difference is teams are better this year. UNE is darn good team. We already know Babson and UMass Boston are very good. Skidmore might have the best top line in the conference. Castleton is the best four or five lost team in Division III. NEC is improved this year. Saint Anselm is a good team. This is the toughest the NEHC/ECAC East has been in my six years here.

+1 Prez. I agree with you 100%. The NECH league is not only a new name, it has also become highly competitive. It isn't the old ECAC...maybe this year was the perfect year to change the title? 17 years is quite a record and may stand for many years to come!

Something isn't working.[/ Along with that Hawk, if you look at the rankings here or NCAA NU is lucky to be rated with having more losses than any one on the list. Everyone can make up excuses and tell great stories, but the fact is NU just isn't with it this year. Us fans maybe have been spoiled. Lets hope we don't start down the slippery slope that Middlebury has.

Castleton just managed ONE shot with a 5 on 3. I don't care how this game ends. They stink. Stop telling me different.

Norwich 3 penalties in a row??? Come one guys, you don't have a great history with 5-3 penalty kills. First 5 minutes looked great. Castleton is playing poorly, don't lower yourself to that level. Play hard and smart.

I'm not one who likes to complain about officiating, but this penalty disparity tonight is ridiculous

8 Norwich penalties vs Castletons 2. According to George and Cory, some where definatly penalties but you need to call both ways.

That was embarrassing. The way we played was bad, blatantly butt-ending a guy at the final buzzer was worse. Disgraceful.

Hope Coach saw it and benches whoever did it!
