Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

I thought we had it when Salvucci clanged that hard shot off the crossbar... I was halfway to standing up before I realized it had clanged out. Bummer.

Nonetheless a great effort and hugely entertaining game. Primelink does it once again... my favorite tournament of the season.

For the record it was Surowiec, not Salvucci who clanged that crossbar ... but that aside I've got to agree with you about the game. Over 18 seasons of the tournament I have done them all and that is the best one I can remember.

The 2009 Primelink at Norwich vs Plattsburgh, resulting in a shootout was just as exciting, Cadets win 4-3 in the shootout with Chad Anderson with the winning goal and Klinger in goal. Both games had my heart in my throat until the very end. Win or lose, can't beat that kind of game.

My bad. I stand corrected... at least I had the first letter right!

+1 on the rest... you know that you've seen a good game when the team that you are rooting for loses but you still are satisfied.

Big weekend ahead. Hoping for at least a split but this is definitely going to be a trying weekend for a team still dealing with injuries.

Prez, speaking of injuries, any chance we can get an update on how the guys are doing and expectations on when they can return to the ice? I imagine that they are chomping at the bit to be playing again. The game against Plattsburgh last week definitely proved that the team can play very well without them, but the extra man power and seasoned scorers could give some of the players a little bit of a rest (players like Rowland and Brandrup, who have racked up considerable minutes on defense!). Getting Pelletier and some of the new forwards back would also allow 4 lines to be played instead of 3. However, I am glad the coaches, trainers and players are taking the necessary time to heal and limit the possibility of getting re-injured.

As I said before, the Plattsburgh game was one of the best games I have seen Norwich play in the past few years and it was great to see the team pull it all together and crash the net to get the rebounds. The confidence of the players, their team work and their intensity of play was impressive and as usual, they never gave up. This fairly young team is maturing quickly and I think the second half of the season will find Norwich leading the NEHC and having a successful post season. (Hope I am not jinxing them by saying this, but I really do believe it!)

Good luck this weekend guys, keep up the good work!

Don't worry, if the team gets jinxed because of some guy on an internet forum then they didn't deserve to win in the first place.

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

Geez... That's at least the third goal scored against the Cadets this season from nearly straight angles.

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

Great game, unfortunate result.

There's not a whole lot to complain about, I thought the Cadets played well against a good UMass Boston team that was just able to make one more play. After 17 straight years of fortune I guess we've just been spoiled into assuming that they're always going to find a way.

second straight game NU loses in overtime after hitting the crossbar in overtime......

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

Dismal weekend. While I'm not losing faith, one thing we don't need to worry about this year is breaking the string of ECAC East regular season titles. :(

It is one thing to lose a couple of close games in OT, but yet another to get thrashed. Glad that this weekend is history and behind us.

Speaking of history, when was the last time that the Cadets lost three in a row? It's got to be a long time ago. I've been a fan since 1998 and can't remember it ever happening but perhaps I'm wrong.

Babson is the real deal....Best team I have seen in a while....I think last weekend was just a blip for them...

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

I think the automatic NCAA bid going to the tournament champ instead of the regular season champ is absurd, but it's the system we have and it gives us hope!

Seriously though, how many teams (I don't care the sport or the level) go 20 years without a 3 game losing steak? I want to say that we're a spoiled fan base, but I think that would imply that people are freaking out right now. I don't see it. I think most Cadets fans understand that the consistency the program has shown over the past two decades is a ridiculous standard.

And the best part is that this team is still going to be winning games and competing at the end.

Nothing like the Pats fan base when they were 2-2 last year calling for BB's head and saying Brady was washed up...

Prez I was looking at the D3 stats and of the top 80 scorers the only Norwich players listed were Tyler Piiacentini at 44 and Kevin Salvucci at 58. With Norwich having a top coaching staff and one the top 4 rinks in the east it is difficult fo the average fan to see the team struggling. Maybe the injured players will make a difference when some of them return in the second semester. I agree with the comments that Babson looked like a very strong team.

Norwich costing 50K a year now isn't helping matters.

Re: Norwich 2015-16 - 17 straight ECAC East titles and counting....

To manage expectations, suggest not placing too much hope & emphasis on 2nd semester returns. If/when some players reappear, their impact is expected to be deliberate at best. The situation is what it is, and this season will come down to NEHC tournament seeding and play. The larger issue is that recruiting has always been challenging for such an isolated, rural campus. Indeed, the hockey program has its credentials yet always struggles with Exit 5's lure or lack thereof. Embrace the season for what it is.

I noticed that Plattsburgh seems to be recruiting a lot from the NAHL which I have not seen them do in the past. The players seem very productive. But I agree cost are a factor but Babson probable cost the same as Norwich.
