Norwich 14-15

Re: Norwich 14-15

Quite the stretch Norm...quite the stretch but I guess if we can't find a better one we'll go with it.

In all seriousness, great Frozen Four matchups. Love the new blood with Providence and Nebraska Omaha setting up the battle of the titans in the nightcap with Boston U and North Dakota. Imagine how crazy a ticket price a Boston U/Providence final will be at TD?

LOL (BTW, does it make me look like a SUNYAC homer?) :p

Re: Norwich 14-15

If anyone watched the RIT/Omaha game when Thompson took the 5-min major, the player on the ice Grant Gallo HAD some DIII ties at one point...would have been nice...

Re: Norwich 14-15

Better tie to D3 hockey for Providence their head coach Nate Leaman 1997 Graduate and 2 time captain of SUNY Cortland.

Re: Norwich 14-15

Lots of D3 connections right now to Men's Hockey Frozen Four.

RIT is obvious.
Providence is where McShane used to coach. Jon Gillies grandfather played goalie at Norwich in the 60's.
Nebraska Omaha assistant is none other than former Castleton Coach Alex Todd.

Bruce Gillies - Norwich Goalie- Class of 1957.:)

Guy Gadreau played for NU mid seventies.

Word just in from Northfield ... Due to numerous complaints from broadcasters and fans Norwich has decided to do away with the camo jerseys next season ... but to continue on with the camo tradition, the ice at Kreitzberg will be painted in a camo pattern. Regular jerseys on a camo ice sheet ... the best of both worlds!

Re: Norwich 14-15

Grand plan time:

Coach McShane should call recently fired Wisconsin assistant Gary Shuchuk ASAP, offer him a job, and promise a roster spot to his son if he wishes to leave Wisconsin's program. With one daughter already at Norwich, and another set to enroll at Middlebury, Coach Shuchuk could be close to his girls! C'mon, Mike!

not hockey related but Norwich football announced today that it will leave the ECFC after 2016 season to join the NEWMAC for start of 2017.

Norwich will play Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, Maine Maritime, WPI, MIT and Springfield. NEWMAC is looking for potential 8th team. NU hopes to keep Castleton on schedule as non-league game.

Re: Norwich 14-15

Why would they give up Pool A eligibility for two years to join this new league? Travel?

Conference stability.
Aligned with more schools that have similar values and missions.
Ability to get Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, Springfield back on schedule.

NU is, academically, drastically different than the other schools currently in the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference. This addresses that, while also providing an opportunity to resume some traditional rivalries. The chance to play three other service-oriented schools is a nice bonus too.

Another D3 connection to Providence, Anthony Florentino is the brother of former UMass Boston Dman Rob Florentino.

I see your point about academics, but I think NU doesn't quite measure up to MIT academically :p.
