Norwich 14-15

Re: Norwich 14-15

"Ho hum ... another ECAC Regular Season title ... seventeen straight ... a 6-1 win at Babson ... just another day at the office ... ho hum ... "

Come on people! Where's the love?

The Babson SI report of the game stated that the loss snapped the Beavers 23 game regular-season home unbeaten streak as well as their 20 game unbeaten streak against league opponents at Babson. Seems like there is always a new guy or two in the lineup each night for Norwich so it is not easy to figure out the depth chart. Goaltending was outstanding again in this very impressive win for the Cadets. There is a very good story prepared by the Babson SI on the Babson hockey site.

PuckVoice I am sure you have heard of the Blizzard coming you way so good luck getting out of South Boston tonight. Would appreciate a report on snow conditions around the UMASS Boston campus. Maybe Vermont will send down some equipment to help out the city.

I believe the Vt National Guard has already sent some help to Mass for snow removal.

Re: Norwich 14-15

South Boston is a complete mess...two way streets are being changed to one-way due to snow piles and limited visibility....parking non existent...travel ban may be activated before you leave the Commonwealth....snow begins around noon...then a break....then again early evening.....the real wind arrives after midnight...50-60mph....more for us out in the Atlantic....3pm start a good idea...noon would have been better...good luck...God speed!

Re: Norwich 14-15

My pops and I have been going to Norwich games since the 1998-1999 season (I was 9 at the time)...my dad and I were reminiscing last night after listening to Puck Voice's call of the game and just can't believe it. 17 in a row! I'm sorry but I don't care what league you're in, winning that many titles in a row is unheard of. I've been blessed to witness some amazing teams at Norwich and this one is right up there. Love the heart and the sense of togetherness around the team. This is just the first step in the wild journey to come in the next month and I'm hoping we get to celebrate much more. Keep up the great work Cadets! AND stay undefeated in the league tonight with a W.

As I recall, the start, of the streak coincides with the opening of Krietzberg. That was back when I was young - amazing how long a streak that really is. There has been an awful lot of good hockey played during that time period. Someday (not soon) the streak will end, but I would bet that ultimately it will be UNE rising to the top - their program is on an upward arc, and it looks like they have a commitment to achieving excellence.

Haven't they made a major commitment to junior players?

Re: Norwich 14-15

I'll be the first to admit I'm spoiled. Norwich hasn't not won the conference since I was 7, which is roughly 10 years prior to me even knowing that Norwich existed. Rightly or wrongly, while it's nice to hang another banner, I've been conditioned to expect more, especially when my four years in school coincided with four straight Frozen Four appearances. I'm not saying that's fair, I'm just stating reality.

Part of the problem is, despite the staggering level of regular season dominance, recent seasons have shown us that, in the end, the regular season title doesn't mean much. Home ice, yes, but the home ice hasn't helped us lately. We need to win the tournament, lock up the AQ, and stop having to worry about selection committees.

Frankly, when the expectation is a National Title appearance, a regular season title is great, but it doesn't get the blood pumping the way it probably should. The Cadets are, to a degree, victims of their own success. The crowd in the 'Berg every weekend might as well be at a funeral - unless the opponent is a rival. I hope we can pack the barn and get it rocking this weekend.

Finally, two of our most respected posters have me on record stating (in early November) that this team was far, far better than expected - I am very glad that I was correct! :)

Based on the last game against Babson, perhaps they've finally figured out how to beat Murray. But agreed on all accounts, I remember attending very few competitive games during my time there. The most memorable one was an overtime loss to Castleton my sophomore year. Otherwise, people were usually making ride arrangements to the Rustic by the second intermission. I'm not complaining about winning, just stating why another regular season title doesn't cause much celebration. Your point about not winning in the tournament adds to the "eh" factor.

I hope you're right re:Murray. However, my memories are hard to shake. We've beaten him in the regular season matchups before, only to have him come up here and stand on his head come tourney time. I am confident that we can change that this year!

If we keep winning, I believe we'll be facing UMass-Boston in the finals.

Hoping for two Norwich wins prior, but don't count out the Beavers. Babson notoriously plays their best hockey in the ECAC East playoffs. Wouldn't shock me one bit if Norwich was fortunate enough to make the finals that Babson could be the team playing at Kreitzberg over UMass Boston.

Either game would be great. I'm looking for a rubber match with UMass. If you ask me they've got an NEC style of play. Didn't like the way they played us up here this year and from what I could get from the call on Saturday it sounded like they were back to it. Norwich needs to keep their heads and keep focused. Here's to the quarterfinals...bring on USM!

Re: Norwich 14-15

Sportscaster Cliche # 1 ... Don't look pass USM ...
They finished the regular season last night with a 5-3 win AT Castleton ... there is talent on that team ... they just haven't shown it that often this season ...
One game at a time folks, one game at a time.

Re: Norwich 14-15

Big night on Friday in the SUNYAC as well, with Plattsburgh and Oswego St playing with just 1 point of separation in the standings.

Absolutely can't look past USM. However, I think the Cadets getting bumped from #1, coupled with the home ice and loss to UMD will result in the Huskies running into the buzz saw.

This.

And if anyone is reading this board and taking anything we say on here with any sort of meaning or substance in the grand scheme of things, they've already lost the game.

The players play the game and dictate what happens on the ice. We're just fortunate enough to have a space to flap our gums about it. :)
