Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)

Now that it's official..will miss LaPlante, no doubt. Again, all the best to him.
All the best to Madigan's new staff as well.. welcome & let's get to work! :)

I'll second that. And I hope for the sake of all concerned (including the fan base) that the parting was at least amicable.

It was amicable between JM and Sebastien at least. No problem there.

Now that Harvard & us are exchanging asst coaches.. hope it's a win-win for both schools (except when we face each other) :).

I understand O'Connell's rationalization for leaving NU to go to Harvard. Can someone explain why Foley left Harvard to go to NU?

It might have been $ (Harvard is notoriously cheap in the compensation area). It might have been frustration with the admissions office, although ours is no "day at the beach". One way to find out would be to sign up for the NUFOH golf outing on September 8th where we'll all have a chance to meet the new coaches.

Glad to see one of our recruits still excited to come to Huntington. A lot of people think Reid's best is yet to come so hopefully he is a steal.

Per Judd Brackett on twitter: Joe Manno (South Kent) who recently decomitted from UMass and was rumored with Saint John has committed to Northeastern for this fall.

And the craziness continued. I thought we might get someone, and for someone who considered us or the Q (read somewhere Providence was also in the mix), I'm glad he's coming here. Any stats on the guy, or know much about him?

EDIT- from what I can find on Fear the Triangle (UMass blog) he had 10-17-27 line in 17 games in January, we had been interested as well, and has good size (6'2'', 185lbs back in January). Our incoming class has a lot of size.

Madigan's staff doing work already. He was rumored to be heading to the QMJHL. Nice pickup.

Never drafted, but had a final rank of 145. Probably still eligible next year. Decent stats to finish off the full year.

Let's hope he's an immediate impact out of prep school... the last freshman we had directly from prep school didn't really heat up until the last few games of the season.

Brodie Reid was ranked much higher, but was never drafted. You just never know about these things.

In contrast to the "last freshman we had directly from prep school", Manno isn't really a prep school player. If I understand correctly, he played for the Lac St. Louis Lions, one of the strongest Jr. teams in Quebec and then spent his senior year of HS at South Kent. Who knows how he will fit in, but as a RS center/RW he may strengthen an area where we were a bit weak. Some late pickups turn out to be gems, as do some walkons. This is more art than science.

Best of all, this would represent pro-activity on the part of JM and his staff (the unannounced ones). They are not taking the decomitments lying down. Also, they must be getting cooperation from the administration, especially Admissions, if they are able to get a boy admitted at this late date. We may be seeing a demonstration of the kind of cooperation that a well liked coach like JM, with friends all over the U., can engender. Wouldn't that be a terrific thing!

We can only hope! Encouraging that he can pull these quality guys in so late, really looking forward to what his first recruiting class looks like. It's also good to read about people wanting to come here as opposed to all of these coaches/recruits not wanting to :) . Warms the soul a little bit.

I've heard that Reid's on campus for orientation this week (as well as Oskroba). Reid went from an '11 recruit, to doubtful if he was coming at all, to a '12 recruit, and then ends up being an '11 recruit afterall. Funny how it works out I guess.

Ye of little faith. JM thought differently.

Shocked! But happy to see. I believe that JM can do a very good job here, I think the kids we LOVE playing for him. Happy to see a player drop QMJHL for college hockey!

It's important to want to play for your coach, more than people think. Doesn't mean J.M. cannot raise his voice or crack the whip, but you're much more likely to sacrifice for a guy you like. I've met him, he's a very nice guy.

Glad to see Reid and Manno pumped to come. Also, some clown Biz Jacobs or whatever said UML would dominate us this season. How do these people get jobs?

Nice guys recruit, great coaches win games and dont do so by being their friend or "nice". He might be a nice guy but that has nothing to do with his eventual success at NU with the players. They played their tails off for Cronin.

If they want a friend, get them a dog. He is not there to be "liked". Very few like their coaches when they play for them.
