Re: Northeastern Huskies Offseason (Discipline: let's find it)
I took PPGuru's post below to say that even though NU fans are more upset with their own administration that they're still at least a little upset that BC landed Gaudreau. To me, this really is the same thing as Ferriero de-committing from BC. Both players chose to de-commit. Unless Cronin had some talks with Ferriero prior to his de-committment from BC, I have no ill will towards NU.
Different scenario, Onion Man. NU fans aren't as upset with BC as they are with the in-house circumstances that led to Gaudreau's decommitting. Did The BC AD wipe out the complete coaching staff last year? No. This is more akin to what happened last year when BC found money for Kevin Hayes, but told Ferriero that they had no more money for him. Ferriero left for a better deal then. Similiar, is what happens at BC now. BC didn't have money for Haar. BC did have money for Linnell AND Gaudreau. Is it true that KJ Tiefenwerth or another recruit is being pushed back so that BC can fit Linnell and Gaudreau in? What will that recruit do?
Ferriero was never guaranteed the money that Hayes ended up getting. It's not like Cody was a free agent. He came to terms with York/BC on what his scholarship would entail and then took his ball and went home when BC rightfully gave more money to a better player. Here are the quotes from Cody himself:
"When I first went in," Ferriero said, "they offered me a two-year (scholarship) but they said if things changed I'd be considered for more money."
The key word there is obviously CONSIDERED.
He then contradicted himself:
"I was always told if I come in and play well I would get more money"
If that's the case Cody, why didn't you just show up and play?
"I asked them where I would be on the depth chart and I was told there were 12-13 guys including me who would be competing. I was looking for a more straightforward answer than that"
What answer was he looking for? That he'd be guaranteed to play top six minutes all year long no matter what happened? That's absurd. The fact he showed no willingness to want to come in and compete tells me a lot about him.
This concept of "leaving for a better deal" in July when you've already made a solid commitment is mind boggling. Nothing was ever taken away from Cody Ferriero. Leaving for a better deal a couple months before the season starts just isn't right IMO.
