Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

The good- +20 shot differential. Clean PK. <20 sog allowed, one goal allowed.
The bad- score ones. Powerplay empty.

UNH better carry Tirone and his bags and buy him dinner this weekend. He stole that point. This was super frustrating to watch.

EDIT: Forgot the UNH goal was a powerplay. Strike that from the good part.

Unlucky. Execution not there, but mainly just unlucky. We were clearly the better team.

Another HEA standings point left on the table and another kick in the chops in terms of PWR positioning. Thanks Danny.

The Beanpot games now look more and more like "must wins."

not to mention, we also do not look like the team with any edge going into the beanpot... not that we ever should have been, given our fortunes in the tourney..

still; 2 wknds (and 3 OT gms) ago... i would've said there was some validity to our chances. Not anymore. Going to have to play smart, hard nosed hockey & earn it; one gm at a time.

From Blog Twitter

Last 5: 1-2-2 (4 points of 10).
Goals: 11. Goals Vs: 10
Shots: 150. Shots Vs: 132, +18 margin
PP: 2/17, 11.7%
PK: 16/19, 84.2%

Offense is getting chances. PP and ES not converting. Defense doing its job overall

Defense and goaltending were supposed to be the weak links in this team but have turned out to be anything but. Agree that offense is getting its chances but, starting with the UConn game, opponents have taken to clogging the slot to block the shooting lanes, and it has been successful. Puck luck has also not been going NU's way, as witness Gaudette's stick breaking while shooting into an open net and pucks that wouldn't settle spoiling otherwise good shots.

That being said, they seem to be playing tight and trying to be too careful. Put another way, I'm just not seeing the swagger and edge they showed earlier in the year. Hope they find those two things by Monday night.

+1

Find those lanes, make the simple plays, get pucks on net
rest will take care of itself. Here's hoping

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

btw, the 'looseness; / having fun also goes for Primeau..
before he won his Hockey East accolades, was playing/ saving with a certain confidence & swagger.. the OT goal against the Friars, couple other instances with the puck lying loose.. he gets those if he just plays with the calmness that won him those honors just about month/ 6 weeks ago. He has it.. just needs to find it.
Go Huskies :)

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

We are not only in a chase for 1st place in Hockey East, but we are also in a 6 team battle for 4 home ice spots and 5 1st round bye spots. If Maine and Lowell win their game in hand, we are looking at 6 teams separated by 4 points.

Us and the terriers have the "easiest" schedules remaining of the 6 teams, but we know that series in Vermont is going to be a really tough one for us. There are no easy games, and even when you outplay your opponent the result isn't guaranteed. That said the last few weeks should be pretty crazy.

Wow. Stops just short of naming names. "'Sophomores and Juniors' who have had to be addressed before". "Ten guys". So, basically most of the non freshman forwards and defensemen?

Just listening to his comments now. I haven't heard him be that candid in a very long time

Just saw Jim Madigan & N Stevens in between periods of the Bruins-Maple Leafs gm.. live on Nesn .. talking Beanpot. Wishing the Huskies some rest, & let's go Monday. :)

Games tonight went our way for the most part. Pairwave steadyish.

Time to get overhyped for the Beanpot!

primeau playing prob his best, playing loose.. having fun.

will say it again, goalie had fun..
under the big lights to boot. good for him, good for nu.

way to go!

hopefully rest of team/ kids play as loose nxt monday now that they got the 1st gm out of the way. that is going to be key for the huskies.

Re: Northeastern Huskies 2017-18: Every Dog Has its Day

Normally I go tonight but I said to myself I am only getting the tix on Championship night this year. Don't want to jinx it. They played pretty well but Primeau really looked every bit of what has been said about him in the press. If he gets hot down then stretch and a few kids that Jim called out answer the bell, who knows how far they can go. We can't look ahead on to the UCONN game which was arguably their worst outing down in Storrs. However I can't remember a season where we played BC this well 2x in one season. Anyway BC looked frustrated and chippy at the final whistle and that is what good goal tending can do. Will enjoy this for tonight!
